Lol if anybody is having trouble with the Training combo challenges, I just found out that if you do Grab + A and keep mashing A you can do some pretty long combos. Do that grab near the ledge, the CPU will fall and then return to the stage, so grab them before they touch the ground and repeat... If you do it right the combo counter won't reset so you'll get the chance to add many hits.

I managed a 104 hit combo with Luigi just now haha.

Pick Fox.
Set Damage to 999
Grab.
Spam pummel.

You get a 134 hit combo or something like that off of it, no need to bother with ledge shenanigans.

How many of you guys are using custom characters?

Just curious.

I am. Its tourney legal and Ganondorf gets to double the range on Warlock Punch with the Sword Variant and improve his vert/side recovery off his down B and Up B variants. Only custom move I can see being banned is the mario one where his knockback goes insane off of the gust cape unless they patched out the point blank insano knockback it was delivering on 3ds. It used to (at point blank) move folks in the 3DS version 13 punching bag lengths in test mode.

I hadn't been using the customs in the beginning but I've started to go down the rabbit hole a little as I get more badges and equipment.

I've been finding custom Miis to be extremely addicting in general. I discovered that Mii Characters site where you can scan QR codes onto your gamepad, and have been adding a bunch of unique custom Miis. Like adding a Chun Li as a brawler and making her special moves mostly kicks and stuff. Or putting Tony Stark in the red High-Tech Armor as a gunner. Inigo Montoya looks good as a swordfighter in the game too. Nintendo was so smart to include so much customizable stuff in the game. I wish they had an online mode for Mii fighters only, however.

Still going through the slog of unlocking the regular characters' custom moves...

I was checking spectate and it seems my country (Chile) is the only one playing the game in SA, is the data region locked or is it the same for you guys?.

hey bats! good games! I had fun...

as you could see on the last match, I got kinda busy all of a sudden. haha.
thanks for playing!

PD. You are good with DHD :D

I have trouble just hitting people. I always end up just past them or just outside of reach. So I usually end up rolling around in free for all blocking while everybody else beats each other up.

You've just got to get used to the mobility of characters if you are very used to traditional fighters. While I don't recommend it once you've really gotten the hang of it, it sounds like you just need to invade the space of your opponents, land right on them until you grasp their safe ranges.

Watch videos of the chatacters you like. Go to smashboards and see how they do it.

I noticed, GGs though! Too bad we didn't get to do DHD vs Megaman, that first match was a shocker.

I'm about to have a local tournament with some friends from college. It's eight-player smash, coming in last place twice means you are eliminated. Get six victories before elimination or be the last player standing to win. The pot is at $35. It should be interesting to see how it turns out because most of the players are casual.

Should I add an option to buy back into the tournament ($5), with the player starting back at zero losses but your previous victory count is cut in half? Like I said early it is a casual tournament and could lead to a rather large pot.

After unlocking all character and stages, I'm a bit overwhelmed on what content to focus on next. Help me out, GAF. What are you all focusing on? Some of the challenges are just ridiculously tough so I can't go down that list one by one really.

DK players out there listen up! Try to incorporate the mid air downB into your off stage game! I tried spreading the word at Snashboards and they quickly wrote it off as useless.

It's not as strong as the other spikes but the hit box is down and forward to DK which allows for more mix ups. People just have to trust me and try.

It works best against predictable recoveries like ROB, Fox, Falco, Mac, Lucario and the Mario Bros. Don't use it against Dedede though.

What makes it worthwhile is that it doesn't have to be quite as acurrate as down air and much less start up than forward air. It's not useless!

At the very least just try!

GAF providing the technology.

Halfway there! This game is too addicting. There's just so much stuff to do.

Yeah no fuck the Master Fortress. Fucking bullshit is what it is.

Classic seems a lot harder in this than the 3DS version. I've only managed to get to the end of the Hand once at intensity 8, and the Fortress killed me. Like, I have enough trouble beating all the forms without dying twice, but they add one more that can insta-kill? That is ridiculous.

What is up with this game's performance issues?

-Major framerate drop when the game is paused and the camera is moved (I suspect this is because it loads higher-quality models for screenshots when paused)
-Music starts up after a match ends, then cuts out, then starts up again before the character select screen is shown
-Ridiculous load times. Seems to take longer to go OUT OF a match and load a menu than it does to go into a match and load an entire stage. Melee is pretty fast for loading and Brawl wasn't too bad after the main menu either.
-Multiple times I've seen some kind of distortion (less than 10 pixels tall) at the bottom of the screen when transitioning, I think in single player or event match? Can anyone confirm? It's like the screen is broken - bars of solid colors.
-Slowdown IN A VERSUS MATCH!!! - On Little Mac's stage, in 1v1, we blew up the lights while the camera was zoomed in and it seems like all the particle effects caused the game to lag.
-No or poor antialising on the versus results screen. The cool diagonal black bars at the top and bottom look a little hokey because of their aliasing, more than most or all of the rest of the game.

I was hoping for locked 60 FPS in every part of this game. I don't care about how good the fighters look or HQ models in the pause screen. Melee's frame drops are very, very rare - you have to be trying to find them (black hole glitch). And the music never cut out and came back in Melee.

Haven't played online and I don't think it's fair to expect great performance in the online portion.

I've only noticed the music one, and I suspect it has something to do with the Wii U. In Donkey Kong's loading screens, there would be a sudden pause and go action that happened, and the same thing happens with Smash. The only difference is DK's is a picture while Smash is music.

This is weird considering I saw an 8-player match stream last night with items set to high and not once did the it appeared like there was any slowdown...do you mean local or online?

Local. In all of our 4-player matches (4+ hours) we didn't have that problem. But 1v1 it happened that one time.

Just curious.

I played around with custom moves in the 3DS version, but I don't know if I'll bother here. It's just too grindy to unlock moves and you can't even play online with them unless it's with friends.

I don't because they aren't allowed in For Glory, and I can't handle memorizing two movesets.

This is exactly my reasoning. If custome moves some how become the norm for everything then maybe. At this point I have enough trouble figuring out the 3 characters I like I'm default

we need a music patch asap that fixes the dk rap and adds mona pizza and super sonic racing back in
It's quite funny to hear they used the Donkey Konga version, though since it's Namco maybe it shouldn't be surprising. But seriously, the moment I get this game I'm going make some noise on Miiverse and Twitter. Might as well.

I'm gonna be waiting out 'til Christmas for the Wii U version, I honestly haven't played Smash 3DS that much. I also didn't expect to be getting a Wii U so soon. I hope I can finally get into this game, when I have an actual good controller and a screen where I can see what is going on better.
