Mafia II is an upcoming 2009 sandbox-style third-person shooter video game which is the sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. It is being developed by 2K Czech, previously known as Illusion Softworks, and will be published by 2K Games. Development of Mafia 2 was announced on August 21, 2007 at the Leipzig Games Convention. The game will be set in the 1940s and '50s in Empire City, a fictional city based on San Francisco and New York City. The name is a reference to New York's state nickname "The Empire State". Mafia 2 will be available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is set to be released in Fall 2009.[7]

very typical mob set up...but looks interesting enough nonetheless...at least this is a proper trailer.... I much more hyped for GOW3 and especially uncharted 2 though

You shouldn't be. Mafia 2 will probably be better than both of those games combined.

Bold statement.
Mafia is my favorite game. It probably has the best story/story-telling of any game ever. So good. Then after you beat the game it had all these awesome modes to fuck around in. Mafia is so fucking classic.

You've certainly been on a roll recently, haven't you? ;)
Fact: You're wrong.

Did you play the original? It is sincerely the best game ever made. It is one of the extremely few video games that actually has a respectable level of maturity to it. Not only does it have that, but the story was actually quite moving.

Fact?

Anyway, I'm guessing Mafia 2 will rival Uncharted 2 for me. I loved the feel and presentation of Mafia. (The only GoW I've like is the PSP one...so I'm not excited at all for that)

Great use of Little Richard in the trailer, gives me hope the game will tons of awesome 50s rock.

Get the first game if you haven't. Still holds up extremely well and has a great story. PC only tho, console ports were shite.

I actually really liked the original cause initially I thought it would be a lame GTA clone, but it impressed me after playing it. Also, I'm kinda pulling your leg but I understand where you're coming from. That being said, GOW3 & Uncharted 2 shouldn't be compared to Mafia 2. I'm sure all will be fucking fantastic.

Yeah, I have fun making overly bold statements. But I really do think Mafia 2 will be on a different level than GoW3 and to a lesser extent Uncharted 2 (I absolutely loved Uncharted). The first Mafia is IMO the best game ever made. Never before or since has a game not only been that immersive, but used that immersion so successfully that I actually teared up and went on an honest-to-God virtual killing rampage.

Old, but I can't hate on more Mafia 2 exposure.

Mafia 2 will obliterate GTAIV like Mafia did with GTA III, no questions asked.

I really don't think GTA III and Mafia 1 could be compared at all. Mafia isn't even a sandbox game, just a choose-your-own-pace action/adventure game.

Who are these guys behind Mafia 2?

I wonder how La Noire is doing over at Rockstar...

Both are open-world games though, and Mafia did have a lot of sandbox elements (and it became a full-on awesome sandbox after you beat it). I think GTA4 actually tried to merge GTA3 gameplay with Mafia-level storytelling. Unfortunately that didn't create something as coherent as it should have been, although I think it was an admirable effort towards the right direction (me being the Mafia fanboy that I am) and I did like it a lot.

truth

actually, this time it would be even worse since GTAIV tried hard to do the whole strong narritive thing and done away with the wild fun aspects.

I wish trailers would show some footage that is clearly gameplay . . . what is the point of a trailer that is all (or nearly all) cut-scene?

because that's still how the game will look when you play it, just from a different camera angle.

OMG!!!

Day 1

The PC version of Mafia is a masterpiece.

Can't wait for this, although I will probably play this one on 360.

That is the game engine.

So the game will look like that except with the back of a character in the middle of the screen.

Does anyone have a link to a 720/1080P trailer?

Look at the options @ gametrailers, it has a 720P version there. It says play in HD under the video.

Mafia II looks sick. For people compraring it to Uncharted 2, both will proabably be top games this next fall, assuming they live up to their predecessors.

Ahhhh, very fond memories of Mafia 1.

15 MPH car chases, desperately trying not to break the law in front of the caps, the story, that racing car mission. Oh, all the crazy unlocks too!

Hope they keep the faith with Mafia 2, I very much do-not-want "GTA IV Mob Edition"

Judging from the soundtrack of the first one, Mafia II should have fantastic music.

If that is true then those have to be the best character models so far. Very impressive visually.

mafia theme doesnt really appeal to me that much, so there is almost zero chance that I would like this as much as U2, but I am still interested.

Looks hot. I hope it does justice to NY better than..you know..it may be easier given the setting (period-wise).

the trailer is not CG. it is in-game, and what you see is what you can expect when you play through the game.

Sweet Jesus yes! I am so excited about this one!! Probably going to end up having to buy a new video card, but it might be worth it.

I was really looking forward to this and it sure looks good, but watching the trailer doesn't excite me at all. Show me gameplay, that's what I care about. Otherwise I would just watch a movie.
