Mafia II is an upcoming 2009 sandbox-style third-person shooter video game which is the sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. It is being developed by 2K Czech, previously known as Illusion Softworks, and will be published by 2K Games. Development of Mafia 2 was announced on August 21, 2007 at the Leipzig Games Convention. The game will be set in the 1940s and '50s in Empire City, a fictional city based on San Francisco and New York City. The name is a reference to New York's state nickname "The Empire State". Mafia 2 will be available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is set to be released in Fall 2009.[7]

Mafia is my favorite game. It probably has the best story/story-telling of any game ever. So good. Then after you beat the game it had all these awesome modes to fuck around in. Mafia is so fucking classic.

Did you play the original? It is sincerely the best game ever made. It is one of the extremely few video games that actually has a respectable level of maturity to it. Not only does it have that, but the story was actually quite moving.

Anyway, I'm guessing Mafia 2 will rival Uncharted 2 for me. I loved the feel and presentation of Mafia. (The only GoW I've like is the PSP one...so I'm not excited at all for that)

I actually really liked the original cause initially I thought it would be a lame GTA clone, but it impressed me after playing it. Also, I'm kinda pulling your leg but I understand where you're coming from. That being said, GOW3 & Uncharted 2 shouldn't be compared to Mafia 2. I'm sure all will be fucking fantastic.

Yeah, I have fun making overly bold statements. But I really do think Mafia 2 will be on a different level than GoW3 and to a lesser extent Uncharted 2 (I absolutely loved Uncharted). The first Mafia is IMO the best game ever made. Never before or since has a game not only been that immersive, but used that immersion so successfully that I actually teared up and went on an honest-to-God virtual killing rampage.

Both are open-world games though, and Mafia did have a lot of sandbox elements (and it became a full-on awesome sandbox after you beat it). I think GTA4 actually tried to merge GTA3 gameplay with Mafia-level storytelling. Unfortunately that didn't create something as coherent as it should have been, although I think it was an admirable effort towards the right direction (me being the Mafia fanboy that I am) and I did like it a lot.

mafia theme doesnt really appeal to me that much, so there is almost zero chance that I would like this as much as U2, but I am still interested.
