I think the Metroid Title Theme is the most underrated new track in the game and I think probably my favorite. I have such nostalgia for the first Metroid's soundtrack and this was always one of my favorites and I wish the full version appeared in more Metroids.

Metroid's one of the few franchises I'm cool with making use of more chiptunes. It sounds kinda forced in some tracks, like the remix of Cynthia's theme, but I love that the general consensus for Metroid is that the "signature" lead for it is almost always either chiptunes, or choir and theremin (in the case of the Prime series).

So overall, are y'all pleased with the game? Is it living up to expectations? Not a Smash fan but I know how hyped you guys were so I'm curious.

Sold Smash 3DS because I had no friends to play with and online experience sucked for me. I'm really tempted to buy this game if online is so good.

Great OT as always Heath :)

Yesterday some friends came over to my house, so i was able to try the full 8 player Smash and let me tell you its pure chaos lol. Even then the game was so smooth, Samurai you wizard!

Huge improvement over the 3DS game. There are some mechanics I think are bad, but overall I'm super happy with how it turned out.

I know there's more they can always add, of course, but I'm really amazed with Smash 4. It really checks all the boxes for me, even if I haven't played it yet. It basically feels like what Brawl should have been and the 1080p / 60FPS thing is just ridiculous on top of that. All I really want in the future are newcomer / stage DLC opportunities and I honestly think I'd be fine sticking to this for a long time.

I do kind of wish they'd add some kind of "competitive pack" that focuses explicitly on the intimacy of 1v1 fights because of how much they emphasized 4-way matches and above. Even something simple like adding Endpoint, Final Destination (Melee), Final Destination (Brawl) and adding some Battlefield versions of other stages would be nice.

Is it just me or is Captain's side b ridiculously op? I mean its not high damaging but the knockback is insane. I can get a star KO at as little as 60%

The music in this game is absolutely fantastic......just amazing. Most fun I have had in a while.

Imo Brawl had a better selection of music and more and better remixes. This game is very heavy on rips, they stripped a lot of classic songs of their length (to the point of them sounding choppy, the DK Rap is awful, it would have been better to not even include it), and omitted a great deal of classic, well known and popular songs from previous Smash Bros. They bring back Yoshi's Story 64, Kongo Jungle 64 and Termina Bay music for example (all three were not in Brawl), but cut Fountain of Dreams. Some songs are on strange stages (Yoshi's Story 64 on Yoshi's Island is odd, Tetris Type B on Wuhu as well, all Dr Mario songs are all over the place) and some series got a lopsided amount of remixes (Megaman) while others were left with scraps and rips (Pikmin and Wario). Dr Mario has the same amount of remixes in this game as F-Zero (1) as an entire series for example, that's kind of absurd.

Also it's kind of funny the 3DS version only has like half a dozen songs I would say were specifically recorded for the 3DS and they're mostly Zelda or Mother songs. That game mostly got scraps and hand me downs from the Wii U version, that's pretty clear now.

I hope, they are just temporary placed there. If we get some stages through DLC, some songs could switch places. If they, what i hope, add all the 3DS for example, the Tetris songs could be included in the Kirby Game Boy stage.

Talking about music... do the CD's appear like they did in Brawl? because I haven't seen any of them yet, only unlocking them over events

So what's the average percentage everyone seems to stay steady at in ranked 1-1? I seem to stay around 65 to 70. Some matches seem to lag randomly though.

The game has clicked with me, even if I still suck at it, and I'm strangely getting addicted to it. I've barely played with COD:AW and GTA5 since. I really enjoy using Donkey Kong, is he considered a good fighter? It's a shame that Megaman feels so underpowered, I don't see much point to him. I like 'teh Mature' Link too.

I'm starting to get the hang of riding the 'omg random' aspect of the game. There are some stages that are wayy too annoying with all the stuff blowing up.

I just ordered the official hardcover guide for the game, I hope it will be interesting..

How many fighters can be unlocked total? I've randomly unlocked the eagle/turkey (?) dude from StarFox.

No one will ever convince me Brawl had better remixes than the ones in Sm4sh. Maybe from an arrangement standpoint, but definitely not from a mastering/quality standpoint. Just compare the Dark World remixes.

Nintendo needs to create a better messaging system, I want to be able to play with friends by asking them if they want to play, and I want them to see the message I sent them on screen, the existence of this game warrants it

Yeah I didn't notice that a friend had messaged me until the next day. They should fix that and allow you to play CPU's/Amiibos in a friend room until someone joins.

Any dudes from the UK had any movement on their pre-orders through the Nintendo UK store? I noticed I still have the old release date attached to mine.

To be honest, I'd rather the soundtrack was filled with new tunes rather than imports from the previous games.

The guide is garbage, very little effort was put into the guide. I'm never buying anything from prima ever again. Ssbwiki.com and smashboards.com are better learning resources for this game.

Some of the music choices are just downright bizarre. Props for adding another Golden Sun song, but why would you choose the overworld music over say, a battle theme?

Again, thanks for adding Tropical Freeze music, but when the game already has 8 other versions of DK Island Swing, why did you need to pick Swinger Flinger, a song that is just a remix of DK Island Swing??

Mega Man is the big winner here. Pretty much all of his remixes are excellent, and he got a boatload of 'em.

Brawl's Pikmin and Wario songs were way better. There were also some clever stuff hidden around. The Mario Bros remix is really good (but on a terrible stage). Pictochat was wonderfully composed, even if was simple (using DS and Wii menu jingles to make a song is cool). Angel Island Zone was amazing.

Brawl also didn't have this weird rule to make 99% of the songs 2 minutes or less and didn't touch any of the older songs to make them worse.

Wii U has some good Pikmin songs, I really like Mission Mode in particular. I like how this game doesn't feel the need to remix songs that are fine on their own.

Sonic songs are also a million times better. Live and Learn, Sonic Heroes... And now city Escape too??? Whaaaat

All that's missing is Knuckles.

YES.
The message system for smash should be in game and it should notify you in-game that you have a new message. I've asked people on my friends list if they wanted to play and they never see it because they have to go all the way to miiverse.

yesterday we played local team battle. i think we spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out how to find the team option. lol.

also would try 4vs4 but you can only have a max of 4 GCN Controllers? wonder if it's worth getting the hori controllers since it uses the wiimote.

To be honest, I'd rather the soundtrack was filled with new tunes rather than imports from the previous games.

This is how I've always felt. Melee did it right, it didn't have any straight rips from other games (except where it was necessary like the classic 64 stages, but that's something else entirely obviously). They did remixes for every stage in the game, two songs per stage and the quality of each track was amazing. I don't recall a single track in Melee that I didn't like and I could always choose my favorite one by holding one of the shoulder buttons when a match starts.

I don't know why they feel it's a good idea to bloat the game with music ripped directly from other games. It doesn't... make the soundtrack that much more amazing. I'd prefer a focused and well rounded set of remixed music like how Melee had it than 300+ songs where the majority are game rips. It's a bad trend for Smash IMO. :/

What I find even more annoying though is how there's now two remixes of songs because they're reusing music from Brawl. Or hell, even more than two remixes for a single song like Area 6. WHY are there so many versions of that song? Star Fox has other music, you know! >_<

Got my training combo challenge.

Yeah, I pretty much completely disagree with this. I used to think that way too, but now I like the original songs so much that I don't see the need to change them for the most part. A lot of the time, the remixes are just worse.

What bothers me the most about the butchered songs is that I can't think of a logical explanation for it. Some people have argued that an arbitrary two minute time limit has been set on music, but some Kid Icarus songs last for almost five minutes.

Aren't those just the two Smash Run tracks though?

I checked and I couldn't find any Kid Icarus songs over 3 minutes as I had a suspicion it was the case. They actually seemed to have trimmed the Dark Pit theme from the 3DS, as that song was like 6 minutes on the 3DS, which is really strange.

The vocal version of the Donkey Kong Title Screen however is a hair over 4 minutes, so you can enjoy a nice long bout of DK grunting his own theme I guess.

It's kill potential is amazing but it's very hard to hit a good player with it and it's easily punishable.

And didn't the kill ceilings get nerfed in the latest patch?

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Any tips on how to beat the Kirby's Crazy Appetite event? The one where you have to heal yourself in the Great Cave Offensive. This seems impossible, I've only gotten to about 45%. There is far too little food, a huge area to traverse, and Dedede's slapping gordos everywhere.
I got to about 30% and ran out of time...

Sure. It has issues but it's definitely worth it.
