Honestly, money isn't a bad superpower to have. Look at Batman.

And Iron Man.

Do you date your partners for their super powers? :(

Besides, Ray is rich. Did you see her eyes when talking about expensive stuff? He bought himself into her heart.

So Felicity is a gold digger with a fetish for the salmon ladder? Just wait until Bruce Wayne comes to town and gets on the salmon ladder.

Have we been watching the same show?

Look, I love Arrow. It's great. But it never does the unexpected thing. They telegraph plot twists a mile in advance. Fans knew Sara was alive, they knew Malcolm was in the League of Assassins, they knew Shado was dead off-island BEFORE the show got there. Arrow's not complex at all, the show works because in the end it's about character rather than plot.

They sporadically subvert our expectations (Malcolm Merlyn as Oliver's nemesis, not Tommy Merlyn), but predominantly this is easily the most straightforward show on TV and stuff like 'who killed Sara?' isn't going to be a Twin Peaks style mind screw: it's going to make complete sense and be a plot device to set up further angst.

That's why I'm fairly certain Laurel's subplot won't amount to anything, because it's making the audience suffer through a ton of exposition to get to the payoff of Black Canary, except it's meaningless because that payoff already happened in season 2 with Sara. I'm not keen to jump on the Laurel hate-train, because it's mostly been lazy writing because the writers couldn't really make her gel with the rest of the cast (her role as female lead got replaced by Felicity after 1 season, and her aspirational role as Black Canary got replaced by Sara in season 2), and just dumped the role of plot interference on her at every opportunity because everyone already hates her. It's like bullying but in storytelling form. Unless this arc does something drastically different from everyone's expectations then there's no way that this is what will redeem Laurel, because even if she does become a competent Black Canary her arc for the last 3 seasons would've still been a massive waste of time.

Finally saw last week's episode. Wow, this season is hurting, big time.

Hong Kong:
So it went absolutely nowhere. I think someone else pointed out that it took us from Point A to Point A with no plot development. All we learned was that the wife's a badass with a sword.
Heck, they didn't even have some throw-away, one-use technique he learned in the past that he could then apply as the Arrow
"I'm leaving, Oliver you stay here and do your laundry." Nine hours later, the laundry still isn't done. Oliver's a freeloading dick. (In a year on the island, he never learned how to clean something?)
So why hasn't Oliver gotten a message out to his family that he's alive? Seriously, he's left, on his own for hours, and he can't figure that one out? Apparently Waller will kill the boy if the two guys don't obey her, but, fuck, it'd be the easiest thing in the world to get a message to Laurel or Thea or Mom or a thousand other people, or all of them at the same time.

Starling City:
Cupid was portrayed well, but this was another MOTW episode with zero advancing of any plot.
Thea is back to being a helpless pushover who is manipulated by wanna be surfer skater DJ.
Felicity...so she can't handle Oliver not giving everything to her, that's fine. But then to happily giggle as his family's business is destroyed by her new boss? Her not having a major problem with the rebranding of the company came off as a big "FUCK YOU!" to Oliver.
Also, tells Barry that the two of them can't be an item, because they're both pining for someone else. I guess if Barry had given her a dress and a rented necklace, that would have solved that issue. Felicity being a strong female is pretty much ruined by her getting wet for money.

Also, I think I missed a scene, because one moment Felicity is at the business dinner giving an impassioned speech about Palmer, the next second she's in the Arrowcave. Then she's apologizing to Ray for running dinner, but he says that the deal went through. Was there a scene where she thought the mining guy was upset by her gushing? Was there a scene where she cut out of the dinner early?

As a show, Arrow built up a TON of goodwill through season 1 and 2, but it's eating through that for this season. Yes, every season has had a slow start, but nothing like this. So, before the break, we have the Flash cross-over and the three-parter focused on a supporting character. I'm sure that three-parter will tied in with whatever cliffhanger they have planned, but so far, I really couldn't tell you what the story in season 3 is. I suppose it's Ra's?

I don't think the three-parter is tied in with any particular cliffhanger (though I think
the midseason cliffhanger sets it off
). It's basically Laurel's "heroic journey" and her rebirth as the "Black Canary" and the creation of her first arch-nemesis,
Brick, played by Vinnie Jones, who apparently "brings the government of Starling to its knees".

I think the midseason break is actually the point when everything ramps the fuck up and we go into full-tilt insanity territory. My speculation:

At the end of the crossover, they figure out a way to solve Sara's murder. The killer is revealed at the end of the midseason break, however, Oliver is taken out of commission for a long time (as Starling is left undefended for at least three episodes. Laurel's arc is her becoming the Black Canary as The Arrow has vanished and becoming the hero that the city needs. In the meantime, someone (maybe Ra's?) takes Oliver out of Starling and Oliver is in some sort of prison or in a harsh environment left to die. After the Birth of the Black Canary arc, we'll jump back to Oliver (and maybe Malcolm if they're trapped together and have to survive together??) for an episode or two where he has to figure out a way to return home.

Around this point, I think they'll have figured out a way to twist ARGUS and Waller back into things as it'll be around the time that the flashbacks and the present-day plot begin to coincide. So, I think that means we'll see Katana in the present day and we'll see Oliver's past come to haunt him again.

How many Radioactive moments do we have so far?

- Tommy watches Ollie and Laurel hook up
- Slade watches Ollie and Shadow hook up
- Merlyn watches Ollie and Thea watch a movie
- Ollie watches Ray and Felicity make out

Any others?

What about Oliver watching Nyssa and Sara kiss?:)

So just like S1 then?

I mean... have people forgetting that Oliver spent an entire episode IN A CAVE talking to his dead father in S1 flashbacks? And that most of his training took place off-screen between episodes? The S1 flashbacks didn't get going until Slade showed up in episode 13, and the S1 plot was 'Oliver interrogates rich criminals' until Merlyn showed up.

As for why Oliver doesn't get a message out, you answered your own question. Waller would kill the kid. And this is the same year where Oliver lost Shado AND Sara, and 'killed' Slade. I'd say it's understandable he's taking fewer risks with dangerous people.

Am I the only one that hates flashbacks? I wish they would just do like a 2 parter midseason with all the flashback stuff and focus on the present in full the rest of the time.

It they had focus on Laurel training in some shape or form over the last two seasons I wouldn't be opposed to the idea that Laurel is BC. At least I would believe she could throw a punch. But for them to turn Laurel in BC over the course of half a season is pushing it. She was a drunk for all of last season! I'll keep an open mind but I don't like where they are going.

Sorry, but the first half of S1 moved at light speed compared to this season. By Episode 7, you had Oliver establishing himself as the Hood, the recruiting of Diggle, Oliver's arrest, the Huntress, and we're formally introduced to Merlin as the big bad, with mom in league with him.
And shit happened on the island long before Slade. The wreck of the Queen's Gambit, the suicide of his dad, Yao Fei, Fyres, the mercenaries, Oliver's torture, the reveal of the list, and his first training with the bow.

The first 24 minutes of this is all of the flashbacks in the first 7 episodes. Hong Kong has gone nowhere in comparison.

No, I don't care for them either. They don't generally do much for me in the show. I could do without any flashback episodes, really. I didn't care for them last season, either. They mostly feeling like they're connecting dots that aren't that important or are things we could already figure out the broad strokes of.

Uh, no. Merlyn was only set-up as the big bad in episode 9. Before that he was just another rich guy character. We didn't even know Moira was in league with him officially until later in S1.

C'mon ! In the first episode it shows her talking to a shadowy figure about Oliver's kidnaping

S2 start was mainly Ollie gunning for Brother Blood. We didn't even know about Salde until the end of episode 9.

Yeah. Even though the first half of this season has been about Sara's murder, it is incredibly unfocused compared to the early Brother Blood episodes.

Whuh?

Brother Blood was in the background until the two Flash episodes. Oliver didn't give him much thought whatsoever.

Watched the episode, I liked Cupid
stupid
, but please Diggle stop shipping Ollicity man >:(

It was hilarious cool to see Ollie welcomed to the new age.

Also I'm guessing I'm one of the few that doesn't hate Laurel.

What about Oliver watching Nyssa and Sara kiss?:)
He probably enjoyed that one so it doesn't count :P

Had to go back and check this, because I know by Helena I was seeing Malcom as a villain. In E5, it's made clear that Moira and Malcom are against whomever is targeting the list, and Malcom clearly summons her to a meeting, presenting him as the bigger bad. This is reinforced in E7, when he goes to her to make sure she's still on board with their plans. Yeah, by that point, you know he's a key villain.

E9 is when it's revealed that he's the Dark Archer.

My point still stands that S1 moves at a much, much faster pace than S3, both in Starling and in the flashbacks.

Right... there was more going on with Brother Blood even before Oliver was on his scent than what's going on with Sara's murder. The only episode that moved it in any big direction was The Magician.

was I the only one waiting for Roy to walk in on Thea and DJ Asshat?

Roy should've flipped his shit.

You mean S3 where we know who the big bad is by the 4th episode, which is quicker than we knew the big bad in S1?

Anyone else notice the "Amell shuffle"? Before he delivers a line of dialogue he will almost always shift his weight to his right foot, put it back to centre, and then speak. It's bugging me more than the Caity Lotz pout.

We've heard rumblings of Ra's all through S2. What we were shown in "The Magician" was 1) his face, and 2) that he's after Malcom Merlin. We're also told that he's not responsible for Sara's death, so he's innocent of the big crime. Only the line "Oliver Queen courts war with us" in response to him protecting Merlin is any indication that he's the big bad.

There's simply no way to see the pace of S3 as anything but a snail's. Most of this is the fault of the flashbacks doing fuck all. In Starling, there's been some foundation building in each episode, but I'd be willing to say this is worse than the pace of AoS's first season.

Heh, yeah. Doesn't bug me, though. My wife, however, can't stand his habit of looking just over or past someone when he's talking to them. Check his heartfelt scenes with Felicity, he stares over her head when talking about how much she means to him.

Oh please. People are acting like it's going to end the show. Why can't anyone just deal with the fact that Laurel is BC now?

I don't know how she'll end up once she gets in the suit, but Laurel has sucked for the entirety of the show. Yes, there were some "powerful" episodes of her coping with everything that's happened, but god damn she's terrible and her acting is just as bad.

Every time my girlfriend walks in while I watch Arrow, and Laurel is on screen, she jokingly asks me why I'm watching chick soap dramas. That's what the show turns into when she's on screen. It's horrendous.

THAT'S what that is! I've noticed it but never really thought about it until your description. Pretty funny.

Arrow is on break tomorrow because it'll sync it back up with The Flash and mainly because of Thanksgiving happening this Thursday and the Wednesday before is the busiest travel day of the year in the U.S.
