Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

So I wanted to get everyones opinon. I have not played a smash since the N64 days. I loved it then but also had a lot of friends who played.

Fast forward to now, most of my friends no longer play any games. However, I was looking into getting a Wii U, mainly for smash. Would I enjoy it even though I wouldn't be playing with people I know? It looks as though online is similar and still fun.

They made one of the N64 stages an unlockable, I'll let you find it out which one it was on your own ;)

So here's a stage I made.

I'm having some issues with it though. First of all, the blocks don't match cleanly, usually they're tilted somewhat and have some spaces between one another.
The bigger problem is that characters are somethings phasing through the blocks. This image was taken in a four-player Smash. The little dust cloud on his nose is where I was - the other three CPUs were all inside his arm.

Is anyone else having this problem? I think it's because the blocks don't line up. It's really annoying, I wish using the grid meant that your lines actually locked in consistently.

Launch night -- I say, "Maybe I'll get one amiibo," and then I get two.

"OK, two is enough," says I. The next day, I buy two more.

"OK, four is enough," says I. A few days later:

Six should be enough... Right?

Although Link looked better than expected. Hmm.

But yes six should enough

I just wish they'd let me play my PS3 games

got smash game bundle but the gamecube controller feels nothing like the gamecube controller I had before, the one that comes with game feels super cheap. I remember the triggers having more spring to it and the Z button also loks and feels different. Idk maybe thats how they always were.

Just got lucky with the Gamecube adapter. I had one preordered and got a call that it came in today. I go to pick it up and the guy says they have no preorder on file but he can sell me the one they have on the counter. Somebody else could have very easily walked out with it if I had gone any later.

Captain, that stage looks amazing O_O

As Pit, on Palutena's Temple, VERY quickly tap the down taunt button (down on the D-Pad)
Really? And this works with the gc controller? I'm tapping as quick as I can and he just taunts. I got him to go on his knees at one point but I'm not sure that was because I tapped the dpad or what. Can't get him to do it again.

When I play as a certain character, I usually play them as they would normally act in a real fight.

When I use Sonic, I play aggressively, and don't think of complex strategies.
When I use Link, or Samus, I use more planning, and more cunning tactics.
When I use Mario... I just spam fireballs, and try to footstool off of people a bunch.

I made a couple 64 stages that I'm pretty proud of.

That cannon on Saffron City is super fun, it lands you on the leftmost floating platform at its lowest ebb perfectly, and blows away anyone in the way. The lava square is a fair bumper substitute on Peach's Castle, too.

Anyone notice there's a quirk where if you draw two edges near each other, the edges can't be made grabbable? I had to make some of the gaps there one or two tiles wider than I would've liked in order to enable latching.

Neat!

Not going to lie, it took me a couple of seconds to figure out that second one.

Honestly, I'd say you'd be better off getting an amiibo and using it in 1 on 1 matches. Level 9 AIs are exploitable once you get the hang of them. Amiibo AI actually adapts to your playstyle and will force you to try new strategies.

I wonder why Nintendo decided to make the Amiibos so OP when they reach high levels.
How does that help in anyway?

Yea but understand that this is why People can't stand playing against sonic players. It's just in his nature to be very spacy/campy and most matches go to the last minute

It worries me how good Sonic is, makes me think Sakurai's going to nerf him in the next patch.

I could never understand why people would get so annoyed with Sonic, until now.

Whoa, that looks amazing! Great job! :O

Thanks guys!

It's a stage that seems like it'll only be good with human players though. Someone always spawns on the right foot, and usually the AI players just try to hop through the hand to get to the top instead of using the moving platforms.
That, and there's the issue where characters just clip through the blocks. Three CPU players are all stuck inside his right arm when this picture was taken.

Maybe you should just fill in the entire interior. And maybe have him stand on solid ground, which CPUs who spawn on his foot might use instead of moving platforms.

I wish this game had some kind of "tournament" feature like Mario Kart 8 so I could play against random GAF members.

Unfortunately, the stage is too heavy to fill it in, and layering blocks on top of each other works only some of the time.

I really hope they make the stage editor easier to use in a future update. It's been super annoying having to restart a large section because my stylus slipped and I can't edit things. Even worse; I started this a bit too far to the right. His sword didn't fit, and instead of just shifting the blocks, I had to delete everything and start again.

While I appreciate the creative freedom the new stage editor brings, I'd like to be able to just plop things down on a grid, or at least have the option to do that.

Today's clean daily-en.jpg, btw:

None for yesterday. I almost forgot, but when I checked late last night, both it and daily-jp.jpg had the Wii U watermark, soooo

Defdo one step forward two steps back.

Damn, I was doing so well on my 2nd try against Master Fortress. Didn't get there on intensity 9, but I killed 3 hearts on 8.5 and then was insta-killed. I think Kirby is decent for it though.

Seems like you can at least make your Custom Stages a bit more pretty by putting platforms on top of other ones, though for some reason, it only works some of the time.

sakurai pls let us draw textures on platforms

i made a Mushroom kingdom stage (Smash64) but it doesn´t look well...

Not sure how many of us are still following the PotDs, but I found Sakurai's comment today about Orbital Gate Assault alone taking a year to complete fascinating. Really puts things into perspective and certainly makes me think twice about saying things like "If only they would have put [stage] in. It doesn't seem like it would have been that much more work..."

The amount of work Sakurai and his team did on this game is just astounding. It's simply massive, especially when you take into consideration that one of the more visually impressive/dynamic new stages took a year to complete by itself. Wow.

Yep, I'm wireless and I've been doing 2v2 For Glory. A dozen matches, all buttery smooth. Simply amazing.

Equally amazing is the fact that my friend and I were able to name our characters "Cocklord" and "Pussay" and our names appeared online. So did our opponents' names: "Weedzilla" and "Thrillho."

Endlessly amused by this.

Heh, I noticed some names like that just playing random people online as well. Between that and some surprisingly M-rated Miiverse posts I've seen over the last couple of months, it seems Nintendo's gotten really lax when it comes to online and Miiverse moderation. Whether that's on purpose or just due to a lack of manpower is anyone's guess, though.

but at what cost

answer: 3 hours of my time and any future enjoyment i might have gotten out of smash tour

Well done. I really want to unlock all the music already, but who knows how long that'll take me with the lack of free time I have to just play. :(

Those games aren't in alphabetical order you monster.

I have a quick question about spectating. I see that when betting there are multipliers and likelihood stats, but does anyone know what those are based on exactly? Kinda feels like i'm just tossing darts blind folded.

Completed this challenge recently, and the pic that came with it just seemed so serene. It looks great.

Is that how tournament mode is going to work, though?
I hope so.
It's gonna have brackets and stuff, so it will likely function like an actual tournament.

There's a tutorial or something available explaining what each stat means. Well there was one in the 3DS version, and I imagine the Wii U version will have one accessible if you press the Y button when you are in the menu before you go into spectator mode.

Good games, Karsticles. I wish I could play more but I really feel like my mind isn't focusing very well. Zelda and Palutena have such good range with their A attacks...

I wanted to ask you who was the best out of my Shulk and Lucina since I'm trying to decide on who to use, but I don't know if what you saw was good enough to choose from. >_>
