343 addresses ongoing Halo MCC Matchmaking issues

My main issue with this is that I think they knowingly shipped a product that needed a lot more work. This game needed a lot more time in the oven. So it misses the Halo 2 anniversary date, so what? This is the Master Chief Collection, not just Halo 2. And the way they are wording what they say, it seems they do not have a full understanding of what is causing all the issues. Hence why some of the fixes are throwing up more issues.

I am not sure who the final decision was to launch the game as it is; MS or 343i. I find it hard to believe that they are willing to throw in probably the most important release in the history of X1 and the franchise itself in the very state it is.

This is so unfortunate as this could have been a revival, a genuine second chance for 343i and the franchise itself. The interest in this game before the release and even now after the release shows how relevant the franchise is. Le Sigh...

This doesn't affect me too much as I only play SP and even that has a host of issues too. I genuinely hope they can fix this and remedy the situation on time or it might put an irrecoverable dent on the franchise.

I have other games to play in the meantime so I don't mind too much. But it's still pretty much unacceptable that consumers are expected to be ok with waiting a month or more after launch to use a $60 product. They should've just delayed it a month.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to play at the moment. I was looking forward to this for so long. I was really hoping to sink my teeth into it this weekend. I will still try but I am not sure how many games I’ll get in.

Who looks worse in this mess, 343i or the games journos who fell all over themselves to give this 9.5s right out of the gate?

Arthur Gies "lowering" the score to 8.0 because over half the game doesn't work is tragicomic.

Yep. And Driveclub gets 5/10 from the same reasons even though DC's single player mode is amazing. Game journalism these days...

Well, gets a pass... both are broken but both are not the same content wise. I dunno, maybe they should have a standard score of "broken game 5/10" and end it there.

lol ziiiinnng

I think the reviews should be "It's broken, don't buy it and wait for it to be fixed" for both of them.

I find IGN the most confusing. They actually waited for the multiplayer to review it, ran into issues and crashes, but went "oh well it worked at the pre-event" and scored it a 9. But then again it's Ryan Macaffrey.

I have nothing against Ryan, but he should never be allowed to review Halo, just as Greg Miller for Uncharted.

So going forward, what lessons can the industry learn from this debacle, and similar recent debacles (Driveclub etc)? Would an open beta have identified these problems earlier? Should open betas be the norm from now on in?

Also, will this have any impact on Halo 5 in terms of development? I assume 343 are working 'round the clock to fix this mess, does that mean resources have been pulled away from Halo 5 for a month?

I guarantee Halo 5 will be fine, same way Halo 4 was (without a Beta).

343 has issues when they outsource. They need to stop being slack and do stuff themselves instead of outsourcing. Worry less about Channels and TV Shows and more about the games.

"The Trouble With Outsourcing" Season 1 Premiere

Starring 343 Industries doing things they shouldn't be doing.

i just wish they'd fix the broken fucking party system

if you're gonna tell us to back out and start the search again, let the party stay intact, FFS

The lesson learned here is if you're going to create a studio who's entire existence is to make Halo games, maybe you should staff them at levels where they have enough manpower to handle all Halo projects in-house.

Its weird but it feels like matchmaking works the very first time you boot up from a cold start of the Xbox. After that its usually broken but the first match usually works.

I think they are tweaking somethings on server side...

Last night i had 2 team slayers and 1 BTB match...With full and even teams...Found under 1 minute

Yeah. Tonight I managed to get into a bunch of games with an extremely minimal waiting time (1 min max). For once I actually stopped because I got my ass handed to me and not because I got tired of waiting.

They didn't even lower the score on GTA5, despite the online functions being completely busted at launch.....despite the fact that the GTA Online launch was pretty obviously delayed to prevent reviewers from seeing how utterly broken it was.

If you are running a billion dollar franchise I wouldn't expect any kind of post-release harshness from Polygon.

So we're raising a generation of gamers going forward who'll say "Oh, it's alright to release a fucked-up game, devs, as long as you'll fix it down the road"?

Yeah that is a crazy mentality to have but seen as the xbox one is the current darling of the industry people are giving this hot mess a pass.

Gies is leading the back as usual!

Its getting better, waits are getting shorter and I just had a blast on that gaint woodsy map from H1. The map voting seems fucked ATM, keeps picking stuff no one voted for, or wasn't even up.

Most Driveclub reviews didn't take into account the networking issues.

That's one thing that people keep forgetting. Most Driveclub reviews were published before the online issues became apparent (which is also true for the MCC), those problems are not why it got relatively low scores.

I've read it's broken as well.

There are some unfortunate bugs, but it's not broken, and it's as great as it's ever been.

Sorry, what?

We're getting articles saying "hey, the Xbox One actually doesn't suck!" so now it's an "industry darling", I suppose.

We are also getting nonsense from people saying there is nothing to play on the ps4 compared to the Xbox one when that is completely false. The PS4 has had more games released for it so far.

Sorry to derail the thread. Let's hope the game gets fixed in time for Xmas. We would certainly have. A disaster on our hands then

For future reference: when someone says a platform has "nothing to play", they don't mean it in the literal sense, such that a list of games will change how they feel. They're speaking to a lack of titles they are familiar with and would want to play. If a platform was created that had only indie titles but a library of 200 such games...people would still say it has "no games". Because they mean specific types of games of hyped franchises that they want to play. There are no platforms that literally have no games...but games are a matter of personal taste, and all games are not created equal in that sense.

But you did it anyway.

Matchmaking is the only issue I'm seeing. Campaign is still a blast, co-op'ed through H2 Legendary during launch week, making my way through H1 and H3 at the moment.

People saying that "half" the game is broken make me laugh.

Who are the "people" saying this to the extent that you think "industry darling" is even remotely appropriate?

More to the point, did you read the Forbes article? Do you listen to the Bombcast? How you can say the MCC is being given a pass is absolutely beyond me.

When you look at the raw numbers, the PS4 certainly has more games released for it, and many of them are good. Many of them are also ports of years old games or smaller indie titles (most of which are also available on PC), which many people don't hold in the same regard as bigger games, and that has nothing to do with platform preferences; great XBLA games were also routinely ignored last gen whenever people were talking about console line-ups. They just usually don't stay in the spotlight for very long.

For what it's worth, I love indie games, yet I find Xbox One's current line-up quite a bit more alluring as well. What can you do, it's a subjective thing.

But yes, let's not derail this any further.

Cool, so if MS managed to win November's NPD, we should expect articles telling us not to look too much into those sales ;)?

Yeah I'm going to say the articles are going to be the opposite of that. Articles will be talking about how this is the resurgence of the Xbox brand and that people should absolutely read into those numbers.

Multiplayer is half the game, also just because you havent had your progress wiped doesnt mean it isnt broke. I hate the mines cool fuck yours attitude from some.

Destiny? I think I have been disconnected from that game maybe 2 times which is an astounding feat if I think about how many hours I have put into it.

I'm glad you haven't been affected by these issues but just last night I along with 2 other teammates got booted twice during the raid.

Here's a thread at bungie.net of some of the issues people are currently experiencing.

P.S. I've put nearly 300 hours into Destiny and it is by far my post played game this year.
