Elite: Dangerous Standard Beta (Starting Jul 29th - $75)

Finally someone made it to a nebula (close but not inside) and took screenshots. I will set me territorial ground around one of these for sure, the scenery is simply too cool.

Some 4k screenshots in there, cant link directly without blowing GAF proportions :p

It's not the biggest deal in the world, but I'd say that some of the screenshots from this game are pretty close to being spoilers..

Didn't play the Beta, never successfully docked in the original, and yet just preordered this yesterday and already it's my most anticipated game this year. Counting the day's.

Anyone know if there will be preloading from the Frontier store?

You cannot sell the data anywhere. I am not sure why, but maybe it is because many people have already sold the same data to that particular station or something.
Seems to be the case. Not bothered now I know it was a one off and it was probably only a few thousand credits.

Well only if you don't want to see anything other than firsthand yourself. I don't really think you can spoil Elite in the traditional sense.

But... I do think it would be better to have a screenshot thread to separate it out and allow people to knowingly go looking for shots of the game looking glorious. Saves any chance of contention.

I tried to get a refund on this game, simply because I don't really like it, not because of any controversy. No dice, but my mistake I guess... So that said, is there any way I can sell my account to someone who is more interested in it than I am?

I was gonna start a thread asking for flight stick recommendations, but it seems like this may be a better place to ask. I really need one and maybe a few other games (like Tie Fighter). Is there a general consensus on what is the best one available right now?

Elite Dangerous OT: My God, it's full of STARS!!! (400 billion of them)

Varies so much depending on budget, "best" can be $$$.

But i would say this, if you plan on playing a lot of old space sims with full HOTAS + pedals for yaw, CH is the place to go since they link all together to make one device and compatible with freespace 2 for example.

But tell us your budget for a start.

Thanks, my budget is about $100, but if there was a decent one for $50 that would be fine too. It would be for casual use, so something that is all-in-one would be preferable.

These has yaw..?

Anyway, I wouldn't buy anything without yaw. I was about to order a TM Warthog, but then I found out I had to buy pedals as well.. So I went for a Saitek X52 Pro, even though it's not optimal for yaw either. I had a X45 which had yaw on the throttle, much better solution IMO, but sadly someone at Saitek didn't agree with me..

this stick is a x45 for consoes

Is this game worth getting if youre a standard KB&M/Pad user? Ive no room or money for a flight stick

Before I got my stick I found pad-keyboard and a bit of mouse was the best way to play. Mainly pad, keyboard for overflow and mouse for sat back looking round and some menu stuff out of combat. It works but 40 quid for a stick and it's a different game.

Thanks dude. I just cant affford a stick and i know ill never use it for anything else.
Even tho i had an Atari St as a kid, i missed out on Elite. so im interested in getting in on the ground floor for this reboot!

Gamma 1.02 incoming
Hello everyone,

As the title suggests Gamma 1.02 is on its way soon. The servers will be down for at least an hour from 2.30PM GMT, after that we'll reopen space and let you loose again!

The full change log is below:

- Fix kinematic soft lock loading game
- Fix for softlock on shutdown regarding fog volumes
- Fix possible memory leak in the system map
- Add in some missing metadata from populated authored systems far outside the usual generation range
- Missing backer system ‘Pepper’ added
- Correct the station ID for the station in 17 Draconis
- Deeper telemetry to diagnose what/why we're getting stuck entering the game in certain circumstances
- When the server has too many stellar forge request, bounce it back so the game can try a different server
- Fix for lighting not appearing in the right eye on stereoscopic modes
- Handle the case where directional lights are removed while processing the view culling data
- Improve MTU discovery handshake
- Ensure location s are not sent if they are no longer valid
- Improve upnp clean up code
- Provide feedback telemetry when system data is received from the server which is either internally inconsistent, or inconsistent with the game's own data
- Additional telemetry to help get to the bottom of why some players get stuck entering the game.

Cheers!
.

Perfectly playable with a pad, game is fantastic once it stops being terrifying.

The rudder / yaw on the throttle is why I keep my thirteen year old X45 instead of buying a newer HOTAS. It works so well, I wish I could replace the stick and keep the old X45 throttle.

Never seen that Simply Electronics HOTAS a few posts up before, it kind of looks nice actually. Does it have the rudder rocker on the throttle like the X45?

My X52 got the rudder control on the joystick itself, I just twist it to get the rudder / yaw effect. ED with this setup is really nice.

I think when you are ready to put 500$+ on a warthog HOTAS for quality/realism (flight sims), you can afford a 130$ rudder pedal :)

Paint jobs are on sale!

There's even a free pack of Cobra paint jobs, which is nice as the Cobra is probably going to be one of the most used ships in the game.

Country flag paint jobs are back, and this might be the last chance ever to get them.

Also on the subject of screenshots being spoilers, I look at it this way: the Internet or some derivative obviously exists in the year 3300 (GalNet). That's only for news in game, but it's not too much of a stretch to just imagine it being used for things like good trade routes, ship / equipment locations, or vacation pictures, like we do on the real life internet. This helps keep immersion for me, I hope that makes sense.

I also try to just avoid major spoilers like seeing capital ships or black holes.

Anyone here who owns the Mercenary Edition try out the free combat demo yet? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the ME and trying it out.

Does it have to be ME? I thought I read it was any preorder.

I just found out there is a Combat Training video in my Orders page. Installing now, even though I only have a 360 pad atm. Still be nice to see how it runs on my 4yo rig.
