Sonic Boom |OT| Sonic 2014

Never happened to me, whether during startup nor during the game itself. Bugs or glitches, yes, but no freezes. Maybe you should let check your Wii U?
Every other Wii U game plays perfectly fine. Sonic Boom freezes the entire system and gives me a "forced to power down" message when I turn it off and on again.

I think so, it's a damn shame/waste of money.

Seriously though all that time in 3 years was there no spot checks to see how the game was doing ?

its bombed in the UK didn't even make the top 40

I'd mad to know what the Sonic Team are up to they've been working on a new game since generations

I still don't understand why his blood is blue.

Or are we to assume that his blue fur is actually not hair but really some kind of viscous blue substance covering his skin?

I think we can agree that the level of detail shown in the CryEngine tech demo never could been achieved on Wii U, but still I'm wondering what the heck happened compared to the shipped game. It still looks good and has its moments, but its far from the visual quality and polish of Nintendo games. The only explanation I have is that something during development got terribly wrong and time ran out for BRB. Such a pity, because the game basically is really fun and you can see all these good attempts not coming to fruition.

The demo is just the E3 demo I think but with changed character select images.

This game is such a mess in performance it actually astounds me. I mean, you can tell there's a half-decent PS2-era platformer in here but fuck they dropped the ball hard even in spite of that. CryEngine was literally the worst choice possible they could have went for with this game. And even though Sonic's voice has improved throughout the games they still make it fucking annoying by putting voice clips everywhere.

It's painful to play. Even more so than Sonic 06.

Sigh...I know people don't have to pay money to experience Boom Wii U but I feel that exploiting glitches or just breaking a game shouldn't be a selling point for any game unless you enjoy the characters, story, or for speedruns.

If I ever manage to get a Wii U next year, I'll probably either rent it or buy it on sale. Nooooo way I'm paying full price on this.

Judging from the demo, the game is a big mess on the technical side, but I think the developers were on to some good ideas. Sadly, this needed more time in the oven and a stable development process.

The demo actually has a demo watermark?!?!

For the love of...

Does it run any better or worse than the final game?

I finished the ful game and tried the demo. I can confirm that they are exactly the same. Best example is the under water level with Sonic and Amy. The lighting and textures are identical.

Can you get into areas that shouldn't be available in the demo but that are actually part of the game?
Not really. The boss stage has that long path leading up to it you can explore but it ends after a while with nothing else there. The stage where you start off in that cave seems to have a walkable area behind it but there's no geometry there if something was supposed to be back there. The stage with sonic and Amy clearly has a playable part after the cutscene before the demo sends you back to the start screen. I can't seem to come up with a way to get past that though.
edit:
I can sort of get in the wall at the top on the right side of that large door with the 4 buttons in front of it but still can't really squeeze through. it might be possible to end up on the other side but the game doesn't load up most of the level geometry without pushing them if you do manage to get through which isn't that bad if you look up what the level should look like. tried opening the door and doing a spindash jump to the far left/right to go around and almost made it around to the lower ledge but the video loaded up before I died. kinda don't feel like going through the level again to get to that point to test things out further for the moment.

I uh, didn't hate the demo?

Performance-wise, the game isn't so great but mechanically the game is a Ps2-era platformer through and through. I walked away from the demo feeling, I dunno, kind of impressed?

I might actually buy this when it hits the bargain bin. Hopefully they patch some stuff by then.

We got this for my Son's 9th birthday.

It's... er.... Okay.

It's got some nice ideas but it's somewhat let down by execution. A couple of months of polishing and optimisation would have done this game the world of good. The camera could do with a bit more work that's for sure.

The sad thing is, here we are (rightfully) ripping on Sony, Microsoft, UbiSoft, etc. for patches to their games being necessary. But Sega's probably just going to walk away, and let the thing rot. It doesn't help that a chunk of BRB was fired months before the game was even released.

Thats what sega does, they have that team rocket issue.

You know how team rocket always comes up with a an entirely new plan , when they could just edit their last plan for errors and probably win.

That's sega, every tie its " if you would fix this , this would be a better game" but they never just fix it or when they do its several games later like unleashed and they include like werehog shit in it no one wants. Its always I need to do the new thing sega, just stick to a thing and do the thing good.

Forgot to mention that I beat this some time ago. Bland through and through. It remains as one of the most 5/10 games I've ever played, falling short of just average and at best unremarkable in every possible faucet. You can tell we received half the game there once was at some point. I will say what an incredible feat it is to have created a less interesting, more poorly written game than Sonic 06. While 06 may be an incomplete mess too, it's at the very least interesting. Being boring is worse than being bad.

If there's one positive out of this debacle, it's that the runway is clear for the real next gen Sonic game to be announced. If anything, it may happen sooner than once planned as to get the sour taste of this game out of our minds. Here's hoping.
