Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

No community choice or flash sales :/

What a bummer, I wasn't expecting any summer sale shenanigans like the red team/blue team stuff but they could have at least included flash sales.

What a boring sale.
 
How does Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun Dragonfall work together? The store page says Dragonfall is a separate campaign, so its not an 'expansion' per se? Does Dragonfall - Directors Cut include the original Returns campaign? If I've never played either Returns or Dragonfall, do I need to buy both?

Yeah, i've been wondering about this for a while, i have more than 400 games on steam, and i've played maybe 1/4 of them.

@Inertia: The director's cut doesn't include the original campaign. It is stand alone, so you have to buy both returns and dragonfall dc in order to play both campaigns

Dragonfall is an expansion that has been made standalone and is considered widely the best of the two. It doesn't include the original campaign.

Dragonfall was originally a DLC for SR, but was later released as a standalone expansion. Dragonfall is not available for purchase as DLC for SR anymore, and the original SR campaign is not included in DF. TLDR if you want both campaigns, you'll have to buy both SR and SR:DF.
 
Alright cool thanks guys, I think I'll just buy Returns for now and hope Dragonfall gets a deeper discount either in this sale or the bigger winter one.

Discounts get bigger the longer a game has been out, so if you don't think you're going to play something between now and the next sale, wait for the next sale (unless it's a licensed title or something that's probably going to be pulled). Ah, this is great, thanks. I've got Bit.Trip Complete coming for the Wii for Christmas, so do I buy Runner2 at 92% off to complete the collection or wait because I'll have more than enough Bit.Trip? :-)

I would probably skip Shadowrun Returns and just get Dragonfall. I Liked both but Dragonfall was a much more polished experience. It has a nice party system with great characters, and it has a sense of permanency unlike the first campaign which feels very linear and transitory in nature. Dragonfall reminds me more of the original Shadowrun.

HAAAA. But I seriously doubt Defense Grid 2 will be part of the daily deals since it was just released in September. 50% off is already pretty great under these circumstances.

It's probably very unlikely that any of the games featured on dailies now will get cheaper in the Winter sale. Though we don't know what policies Valve has in place for the Autumn and Winter sales this year: last year an email leak revealed that the discounts across the Autumn and Winter sales would be the same. We don't know if that applies this year or not.

Really, Returns isn't worth playing? It seemed to get great impressions when it was released, and I never played the original Shadowrun so I would have no nostalgia for it.

The original Returns is decent to good. Dragonfall is much better.

Are the same games also always on sale both times? Can a game that's on sale now, not be on sale during the winter sale? I imagine that's unlikely, but someone might go "derp should have picked it up in the Autumn sale" otherwise.

That said, games do go on sale again at some point, so it always depends on how soon you want to play it.

Return is definitely worth playing if you can get both. It still has great writing, and an interesting story. The main differences between the two campaigns are the flow of missions and party composition. Returns flow is mission => to safe house => next mission with a character NPC usually tagging along and the party being fleshed out with generic hirelings. Dragonfall's flow is mission => town => choice of missions you are free to take in any order, most offering an interesting self-contained story => town => story mission when you are ready. Additionally, you have a well written party of characters that you develop and decide who to take on each mission. As a result I enjoyed Dragonfall more.

It's pretty uncommon for winter games to go cheaper then black friday prices, but it has happened. Unless you are planning to play it immediately you may as well wait.

It's possible, but very unlikely. What will happen for sure is that a select number of games that didn't got featured in dailies now will be dailies in the Winter sale, since the Winter sale runs for two weeks, and the Autumn sale for one week.
 
I like the presentation for this sale a lot. Makes it hard to resist for a few items on my wishlist which are already deeply discounted.

Fair enough. I'm loaded with games, at some point over christmas I'll finally get a week or something to actually play some of these things.
 
Should I get the Batman games right now or wait for it to be discounted? (AC and AA GOTY is $7.99, Origins is $9.99)

Running With Rifle's current sale price in this sale is a complete fake. Literally a day ago, just before this sale, it's regular price was $10, but for the sale today it was raised to $15 and is now "On sale" for $10.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but that's quite scummy to take advantage of the "On Sale" effect without being a genuine sale compared to the normal price.

So it would seem likely that we'll get Shadows of Mordor at $25 or less right? They're already skimming at the price at target I think it was for consoles.
 
I almost have enough in my steam wallet to buy the lifeline dlc for state of decay so either I'm gonna sell some cards or wait to see if it gets discounted further
 
Oh shit dog! My entire wishlist is on sale. Now give me the dailies Gaben. They aren't quite low enough where I might wait till winter sale if they don't have dailies
 
Just installed Gray Matter its basically free lol, I have a point and click itch that has not been scratched since Broken Sword 1,2,3 ... yep pretty much it, but awesome games.
