Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 24-30 | Fighting Geriatrics Community

A volcanic eruption near where he lives delayed his flight but he was able to get another plane so he should be coming just a little bit later.

Nice! Anyone knows if Smug is going as well?

btw with this age talk, how old is PR Rog? He's also pretty young iirc, not as young as Smug, but still young

EDIT:
How old is Ricky? Still has fantastic reactions

Pretty sure she has 29 yo

CUTE EDIT:

Happy thanksgiving to all my murican GAF-buddies

If being good at a young age is your only criterion here then JWong should be the best FG player in the world right now.

I never said Smug would be the best FG (i.e. multiple games) player in the world. I just said Daigo would not be able to keep up with him in SF.

Also, If we take Justin Wongs age and what he has accomplished he might very well be the best fighting game player to grace gods green earth. (he is without a doubt top 3 in the world minimum even Justin Wong haters can't deny that.)

Reflexes actually decline fairly slowly with age. It's been shown to be one of the last skills to deteriorate in professional athletes and it's one of the reasons elite hitters in baseball can keep playing through their late 30s. I wouldn't expect Daigo at 40 to be much worse than he is now -- any marginal loss in his reflexes or hand-eye coordination would be offset by the additional experience. The Evo Seniors Tour could very well be A Thing 20-30 years from now. :x

I know a lot of professional players in other games (like Starcraft 2 and LoL) come and go at very young ages, but that has more to do with the absolutely brutal schedules those games and leagues demand, along with the fact that eeeeeeeeee-sports money still kind of sucks. It's understandable for someone to retire young when taking the 9-5 is both easier and more profitable.

Choice reaction time seems to slow down much more rapidly than simple reaction time.

One could say Daigo has started to already perform badly with him dropping combos much more often now. He is gonna be a very interesting case study on how someones performance is impacted as they age when it comes to Fighting games.

The only other best example we have right now is Alex Valle who was one of the top U.S players in his younger years but now simply can't compete constantly with young guns seen on WNF. To give Alex the benefit of the doubt it might be due to him having to focus his efforts on Level Up Live to make a living.

Choice Reaction Times
A more complex test of reaction times would have more than one stimulus and response. For example, an experimenter might flash even or odd numbers on a screen and ask someone to press one button when presented with an even number and another button when presented with an odd number. The time it takes to decide what button to press and then do it is called a choice reaction time.

Choice reaction tests show a different pattern. Unlike reaction times for simple tests, which barely increase until people are fifty years old, reaction times for choice tests increase rapidly once people are no longer young adults. Women's scores on these tests increase more markedly than do those of men. Performance on complex reaction tests is highly correlated with I.Q.: the higher the subject's intelligence, the better his performance.

Also, I'll add Daigo not only needs to keep up with Smug when it comes to reaction time, mind games, etc but he also needs to be able to keep up with the younger studs drive to succeed and hunger to grind it out. If Daigo's commitment to fighting games takes a back seat due to his age and wanting to do other things in life (marriage, kids, etc) you can be sure that the young Lion will maul this old beast into submission.

5 years ago people were talking about how Shine Gouken was the future and now people just joke about how he breaks headphones
.

And if reactions were everything, then Fuudo wouldn't be doing so terrible in topanga league.

Let me also add that Daigo was considered the best in the world before his 18th birthday.

Smug hasn't even won a real major yet. So chill with all this young lion talk and sit back and watch at home along with Smug while Daigo beasts niggas at Capcom Cup and Topanaga League.

Real talk here, Smug can't even match up to Daigo, he doesn't even stand a chance against his boogers.

but people want that downfall narrative so bad

also underdogs ayyy lmao

Reaction times are one of the most overemphasized and mystified aspects regarding gaming, amongst gamers, imo. I truly believe it's a more fundamentally sociological phenomenon than a biological one (in regards to its increase/deterioration).

Competitive players in particular get themselves into trouble once they start believing their reaction times are doomed to some linear, deterministic, eventuality of mediocrity and fall into a spiral of self-doubt that makes their reaction times worse (it's happened to me).

In short, I agree with Kumubou

So apparently on homebrew, the Wii U can recognize the official GC adapter for GC games.

Melee will still live on my Wii U.

How difficult/annoying is this? Been meaning to do it for a while, but I'm wondering how much time it would take away from my one day off.

I haven't done it yet. From what I read, it's simple. Just need a game that works (like Brawl) along with the right files on a 2GB or less SD card. Unfortunately I don't have Brawl lol.

I don't think it'll even take 20 mins tbh.

That reminds me, we need a new Burnout. It was basically Marvel of racing games
I was just thinking the other day, I'd kill for a new arcade racing game with upgrades and a good story mode. Like a mix between that old as fuck game street rod, mixed with initial d, mixed with burnout.

Amazon shipped my Amiibos and ShopTo has shipped Smash.

Looking forward to finally being able to play the game with a controller that isn't complete shite, maybe I'll dislike it less.

It's not like the young guns lack Valle's talent, and experience is a lot easier to grind these days- so Valle's experience advantage is probably less than we all think vs someone like a Snake Eyez.

they made omega stages for a reason damnit

That reason being "Lot's of people picked FD in Brawl online, we'll make a mode specifically for that so that people who want the wacky stages can have it".

FD is a shit competitive stage, Battlefield will always be the best.

Isn't that what a lot of modern racing games tried to be? Everything since Need For Speed Underground, or these days things like Grid or Dirt.

The best competitive stages are Dream Land because stage theme, Smashville/Town and City because colors and platform mechanics and Yoshi's Story Melee because Randall. :p

GGs Beats. I felt like I was losing a lot of ground to you today. ZSS is terrifying to fight if you have recovery lag on ANYTHING. Lol

What did you think of my play?

GGs Azure. I was salty after Olimar's F-smash killed me after it got reflected against your Palutena. lol

You're pretty good. I had a tough time against your Greninja. Kept getting grabbed and those hydro pumps low to the ground threw me off haha. I think in general you should be more aggressive.

Have you learned to pivot after a dash? I saw you using your shield to "stop" your dash and then doing an attack afterwards a couple of times, but you can just do a half circle motion to buffer a pivot and you can basically do anything even before the turn around animation happens. It doesn't work well with a few characters though like Palutena. But it should work well with Greninja and Marth.
