I wonder how much of a pull those guys would have had though. It seems like WWE has to trade now is novelty. That's what the Rock comebacks are. That's what the Brock stuff is. That's what the Sting thing is. And we all eat that stuff up when in reality, what really is a 55 year old Sting going to do? Probably suck that's what. Whatever angle or matches they come up with for him will probably stink and we will all say they stink and how much of a mistake it was, but make no mistake WWE will tease another old timer or part-timer returning and we'll eat it up again. The product without that novelty is just incredibly niche.

The product with novelty is niche. Let's face it, the wrestling business is dying and even the old timers from back in the day predicted it. As far as the WWE is concerned, they hate to adapt to change. When Shane offered his innovative ideas...Vince shut him down. When Paul was writing for Smackdown....VInce shut him down. It's like he hates the idea of Wrestling going beyond a certain era. He's so out of touch on reality of the wrestling fanbase and why the core wrestling fan base left in the first place. He constantly brings back Attitude era guys like Rock and Austin, but forget the fact that he has a roster that can be top notch to those guys. It's like fuck trying to bring back that core for a new generation of wrestlers...let's hire the part timers and old guys again to bring back the part time demographic that tune into Raw is War.

Bottom line...adapt or perish...and right now WWE is going to perish and there's not a single thing they can do about it because the damage is already done.

Man...I haven't watched pro wrestling since the WWE was the WWF and the Hart Foundation were the tag-team champs.

Forgot this was even a thing. What channel does it air on these days? And are they really that financially unstable, or is the CEO just a cheapass bastard?

From all he said an all the shit they were doing, if Vince had given him a few months to heal, IMO he would still be in the WWE, also he's not like other guys he saved his money so he probably doesn't have to work a day in his life again..

The most interesting part over the 2 hours apart from his side of the story is how in tune he is with what most fans are thinking while Vince and Triple H are out on Mars. The part about Vince being surprised UFC would have women fight explains a lot about the Divas division. Daniel Bryan not being a player to them despite him being their most obviously over guy for months is astonishing. And Batista vs Orton as the biggest WM main event ever? Until the RKO Vines, who gave a serious fuck about either of them? Anyone?

Wow, I thought this was going to be a vague general rant of how he was burnt out. This story is really moving ground. even without the specifics though, you can tell WWE is a horrible managed company. Won't stop people from subbing to the network in hopes that it will get better though.

There's not alot of people tuning into the Network unfortunately...

Hence why next month the WWE is doing one month subscriptions, instead of the 6 month commitment.

WWE is banking on nostalgia

Randy was super over last time he turned face and tagged with Cena.

In the build-up to Wrestlemania this year, though, he was nothing. The announcers even said he felt like an afterthought despite being champion during his Wrestlemania match. He had nothing going on, and everyone felt Daniel Bryan was the uncrowned champion anyway, which made both Batista and Randy Orton look stupid.

And I'd watch Stone Cold enter the ring with his fucked up knee and shout "What" 1000 times before I'd ever want to see a match with someone like The Miz.

They just don't have the wealth of talent, in the ring and outside of it, they once had.

Do they really have anything else though? I mean, realistically I don't think wrestling will ever be crossover "cool" again. The Attitude Era might as well be what the Wii was to Nintendo.

They have guys who can go, in fact from a wrestling standpoint the product is the best it has ever been.

And it isn't like Punk didn't blow up. Wrestling is not inherently unable to become popular. But creatively it seems like such an out of touch, spot protecting and mismanaged mess that turns off even casual viewers.

I'm still not sure I believe that the plan wasn't always Daniel Bryan in the Main Event of Mania. Like it's been confirmed a billion times already so I know it's true, but I can't truly believe anyone would ever be so tone deaf as to not recognize it was his show.

Cena does movies with scooby doo and fred

Also notice how HHH even has to have the belt in fictional depections of the WWE.

They do have the talent but too lazy to enhance it. Back in the days, you had wrestlers can't couldn't do a proper bodyslam but were entertaining as hell. Jake the Snake was buttcheeks in the ring but his persona was awesome.

Roddy piper was bad but his mic skills were top notch.

If you don't work on a wrestler's persona, then hell yeah the wrestler is going to be bland. I cringed hard when they have the wrestler's cut promos introducing themselves and when Cole expresses what the wrestlers say instead of letting them cut promos to enhance their character.

This was suppose to be the future of the wwe :(
CM Punk = retired
Daniel Bryan = crippled
Beth Phoenix = being a mom for her and Edge's baby girl while he shoots Haven
Zack Ryder = getting injected with stem cells so he can work house shows again and the occasional episode of The JBL Show on WWE.com
Evan Bourne = back at Ring of Honor
Cody Rhodes = joke Goldust-spinoff character to pay homage to his brother
Kofi Kingston = new dancing black man faction to debut on Black Friday episode of Smackdown

I feel like the actual wrestling has always taken a back seat though. That's not why the masses tuned in. They tuned in for the personalities and the storylines. The matches were mostly secondary to this crowd. I mean, the reason wrestling became huge to begin with was because of Hogan and he could barely wrestle his way out of a paper bag.

Do they really have anything else though? I mean, realistically I don't think wrestling will ever be crossover "cool" again. The Attitude Era might as well be what the Wii was to Nintendo.

Wrestling can be edgy and cool again, but it takes someone who knows how to work the Internet audience to the masses.

WWE's subscription model isn't that.

This was just a good interview.

We already knew how fucked up that company was when it came to creative decisions and the product speaks for itself (except for NXT,which is awesome) but the way they dealt with his injuries is disgrasceful. Vince puts money above the health of his workers and they do it in hopes to achieve something they can't because of the glass cealing.

You just need to look at Survivor Series and how Ziggler was overshadowed by a 56 year old man that's not even going to be there night to see why the product is the way it is.

It's a shame there isn't a real alternative for those who like this style of wrestling. NXT is pretty much the only wrestling show I enjoy right now, but I'll give NJPW a try now that they have JR on commentary.

Also lol at Meltzer confirming creative have no plans for Ziggler. Let him get the shit get kicked out of him for the Sting pop

Nintendo pulling their, while slowly out of their bum will work out because video games are cool.

Wrestling doesn't have that advantage.

Listened to the entire thing... fascinating shit. The only thing I can't comprehend is why AJ still works with the company. She's constantly in shitty angles, obviously doesn't need the money, or can go work at another organization if she loves the business that much... Go home and be a family woman.

Yeah I don't get why she's still there. She doesn't seem to want to leave and Vince and company haven't canned her yet either. It seems like an awkward situation.

Right now people aren't subbing to the network.

She's going through her Owen Hart post-Montreal screwjob phase.
Hopefully she gets out before they ask her to don the Blue Blazer outfit and drop down into the ring from the rafters of the Kemper Arena.

At this point it would only be surprising if they actually had a plan.
The only long-term planning the WWE ever does is to decide which part-timers they'll bring back for WrestleMania each year and which full-timers will get to job to them, Cena or Reigns.
The rest of the year is just about rolling out new Cena merchandise and coming up with fresh storylines for Total Divas.

Huge wrestling fan since the late 80s; however, after Vince Jr screwed up the WCW and ECW invasion angles, the return of the NWO, and his general treatment of any wrestler or gimmick not made popular in the WWE, I dropped wrestling altogether since 2003.

I used to love the athletic competition, specifically from the Japanese and Mexican cruiser weight performers. Punk was a great wrestler and an asset on the mic, I can see why Vince and Triple H handled him with resentment.

Would Vince kill a man's wife to get back at him?

The next time the WWE does anything in Chicago, they will get eaten alive. I doubt very seriously Vince & co. will want to do a PPV or even a Raw there after this interview. It will be like ECW One Night Stand all over again.

This Monday will be very interesting depending on whether the audience will have listened to the podcast or it even made an impression on them, but who knows. It may be like every other Raw.

I haven't followed wrestling in a long time but this was great to listen to. It's a shame that in 2014 it's still being run like a traveling circus.

Seems like they could have had something truly great with Bryan and Punk at the top.

I wouldn't say she doesn't need the money. It's not like she's on CM Punk money. Punk made millions from 2011-2013, the Divas aren't paid much, even when AJ is the top Diva. It's her livelihood.

They are in Oklahoma in Monday.

Prime cena country.

This one happens to be in Oklahoma so Vince will take out his frustration by making fun of Jim Ross again.

I doubt the podcast would make any difference. Especially in Oklahoma where kayfabe is strong.

I hope AJ doesn't quit her dream job at the E because of or for Punk that would be sad, unless she is quite unhappy so then I'd say go for it.

There's other places for her should she choose to do so.

Past employees shoot on the WWE all the time, it'll be ignored. $9.99!!!

Don't forget a live interview with Vince by Austin.

Why did he always do that? Nearly everyone in the business and fans respected him yet every time he was home they would make a point to do stuff to him that always felt cruel.

Gets termination papers on wedding day.....his wife keeps working for company and comes back to become their champion?

lol, what a messes up world wrestling is.

...
WAT???

Kinda reassured the picture I had in mind of WWE's management and handling of talent. Punk enforcing on how much he valued his sanity and health really strikes how bad the situation had gotten. It's also pathetic of WWE to show disrespect in the way they did by firing him on his wedding day.
