I would recommend you Pro Controller.

Ideally anything but the Wii Remote. You need an analogue stick to actually move and perform well since every game of this series is based upon analogue input, as well as a 2nd stick to do aerial attacks with more control over your character.

Other than that, whichever feels more comfortable for you to use. Both Gamepad and Pro suffice.

Alright so I played my first night with a friend, local and one online. Good times. This game is sooooo good and really puts the 3DS version to shame. The controls make such a big difference. And the shiny HD goodness of course.

My thumb is hurting though, I'll have to train it so it won't feel a thing anymore.
