CM Punk tells all about walking out of WWE (podcast)

HEY PHIL
HEY PHIL

LET ME GET AN AUTOGRAPH

I don't think he found it amusingly sad, just petty and I don't really think he cared that much. At least I didn't get that from his tone. He sounded legitimately angry at other stuff, like Ryback.
Dude wrestled with a staph infection. Being fired on your wedding day was probably the nicest thing they did for Punk.

I can't believe the WWE is still such a piece of shit organization even after 30 years and all of these lawsuits. WCW and ECW dying was the worst thing to happen to wrestling. Not that they were run by better human beings, but at least wrestlers could go there when WWE treated them like shit and had some kind of leverage.

I like that he throws Jericho under the bus and then does a short impression of that voice Jericho goes into on his podcasts

I was talking about HHH, he definitely walks around like his shiet doesn't stink

I was too. His ego is massive but hes a big star, worldwide recognition and will be in the HOF.

"I have to put over the Rock and he goes away, I have to put over Taker and he goes away, now I got to put over Brock and he goes away?"

he's not wrong :(

fucking part timers man

The real scathing shit in this podcast was the medical team at WWE. They obviously keep their jobs because they care more about getting wrestlers back into the ring rather than looking after the health and well being of the wrestler. Plus the medical team just sounds incompetent. Got a concussion? Have a Z-pac. Blow out your knee? Have a Z-pac.

This company is built around using wrestlers up until they have nothing left and then spitting them out. Look at all the bodies they have left in the wake. After the steroid trial and then Benoit you'd think they would have changed how they do business. Nope, not one bit except they keep it all well hidden now and just donate large sums of money to concussion research and tout their "wellness policy"

Speaking of the "wellness policy" ever notice how no one gets hit for violating it?

None of the politics stuff behind the curtain comes as a surprise. That shit has been going on in that company for decades. The fact that they fired him 5 months after he "breached" his contract is silly. If they wanted to win any legal battle they would have had to fire him immediately. They really fucked themselves over by waiting to fire him for breach of contract. In the end Punk got paid and got to escape what sounds like hellish working conditions for what should be a dream job for anyone who grew up watching wrestling.

I met Punk at a Blackhawks/Red Wings game in 2012. My wife and I happened to be walking out of the same entrance as him. I glanced over and he happened to look my way at the same time like a dumbass mark I said "Holy shit are you CM Punk?" (wish I would have said something cooler to this day) he nodded and I introduced myself and my wife, shook his hand told him I loved his work and had watched him since his ROH days. We chatted for a few more mins as we walked out of the stadium and as we got somewhat clear from the crowd I asked if I could get a picture. He was reluctant but my wife already had he phone out so he said "ok but really quick because there will be 15 other people wanting one after me." Wife snapped a pic, I thanked him shook his hand and as I walked away he says "Detroit sucks." That made me smile and I shouted back "Go Wings!" Dude couldn't have been cooler and more down to earth. My wife had no clue who he was, she asked "is he famous or something?" I told her he is a pro wrestler that is in WWE and she looked at me like I was 10.

Why would you want to make them worse?!

Can't say this story sways me to defend CM Punk, but glad he is able to do things he is more passionate about now.

Why wouldn't you defend him unless you think the stuff he went through (like the staph infection) is acceptable?

Never championed any of WWE's policies.

Seemed like if Punk wanted to be publicly vocal on the issues, then he had plenty of time to do so. Might have been the difference maker for possible others in terms of wellness.

"Benoit used to pop people's zits"

ewwwwwwww

Sounds like the nurse's office at my high school. It used to be a joke that for everything they would check your temperature. Were throwing up? Temperature. Got shot? Temperature. Lost a limb? Temperature

I ended up needing stitches because of something that happened in gym class. I had a deep ass cut right above my eye and was bleeding the whole time, the first thing they do is sit me down for 5 minutes with a thermometer. Don't even attempt to stop the bleeding. I was almost positive they were going to say "it says 98.6, you're fine. here's a late note for your next class"

The whole thing about WWE doctors and Hunter/Vince makes that company looks like something ran by mob guys... I'm pretty sure it will, at some pint, collapse for any reason/scandal..

Now i also think Punk is a little too focused on (obsessed with) WM main event and glory. He talks like he's always superior to every other wrestlers (and it's not a kayfabe thing lol...) and the thing with WM main events... He talks about the last match being the only real ME, but that's clearly not true. or at least it has been less true in recent years, clearly. And what he says is silly, cause any Taker match is kinda the main event at Mania, with the streak and all, EVEN if its not in the end. Cause they choose the end match for obvious storyline reasons, or finishing on a championship.. but i don't think they feel more important.

That and the guys cries about jobbing to part time wrestlers.. But he's kinda confused about the way things are perceived. I don't even fucking remember who won those matches. Him against The Rock, Lesnar and taker ? That makes him legendary at worst, nobody cares who won or lose. He's pretty childish about that.

He's pretty clear that he's just trying to take them at their word on him being in the main event, but then he realizes he's in pain, never main evented much even as the champ for over a year, and he's not getting paid as much as any other main eventer. After all, if it were actually a main event, why put up a fight with him over placement and importance? If he's your main event, why don't you have a plan for him after he loses?

Punk saying Hunter doesnt like him puts their angle and the shit they said in a new perspective :p

CM Punk was a douche to Greg Miller so I will take Punk's comments with a pinch of salt. Need to listen to the other side before coming to conclusions.

Punk was apparently also a cock to Dan Ryckert (Punk mentioned he loved Punch Out, Ryckert asked if he'd beaten Tyson, Punk gave him a really shit-nosed and sarcastic answer), too. But that doesn't make me doubt anything Punk says about the WWE. There's too much corroboration from other wrestlers over the years as to how things are done there. It's a shitty company to work for if you're talent.

Punk is 100% correct when he says the last match is supposed to be the Main Event. There is no scenario where there are four main events. One match is the main event, that's what he meant and I agree with that. I also respect his view that he is the best. I have a similar view when it comes to my own job, I work hard and I consider myself to be great at it, to the point where I do think I'm better at it than my colleagues, if I ever felt otherwise, I wouldn't rest until I was at that persons level. It's that kind of ambition that people often mistake for arrogance. It's just Punk being driven and passionate about what he was doing and not settling for being second best behind Cena. It's one of his best qualities IMO. But I can see how it can be off putting to some.

Dan said he was also leering at his girlfriend, lol

I think it definitely matters who wins and who loses especially in the eyes of the casual viewer. I remember someone on YouTube didn't believe Punk was going to beat Cena and walk out with the title at MitB 2011 because he had lost to Randy Orton, who was inferior to Cena.

To you it may not matter, but what about the casual audience? If wins and losses didn't matter then we wouldn't be crying about talented guys being jobbers.

I always enjoy Punks HHH impressions the suit thing killed me. He really believes he's on Austin, Rock, Hogans level.

When Vince is telling you that daily, what else could he think?

I want to hear Vince/Hunter's side of the story so we can balance it out. When are they going on the podcast?

Guys?

When?

Vince is on Stone Cold's podcast next Monday.

Interesting timing, isn't it?

Chances are the whole Punk thing won't even come up on that podcast with Vince. I can't imagine Vince wanting a verbal battle with Punk. Not going to happen.

About that. I don't see much coming from that. Vince isn't going to get candid about anything. Stone Cold isn't going to ask any tough questions. It's going to be a love fest about the good ole days when wrestling was at it's peak.

I liked this exchange

<Vince> It's going to be you and Brock at Summerslam

<Punk> Great! Who's going over?

<Vince> uh....Brock.

<Punk> Great! Who's going to show up for work on Monday?

<Vince> ...*silence*...

And this is exactly why Brock is toxic. Putting him over like that at WM was the stupidest thing the WWE has done in ages because, of course, Brock then promptly vanished - along with the title.

If Punk was to actually do anything MMA related, my guess is it would be a grappling match at Metamoris or something like that. I also think he would get his ass handed to him but shit I would watch it

It's not just Brock. It's part-timers in general that are toxic. What message does it send to your talent that a guy that is here for a Mania payday is more important than the people who show up every day are on the road 300+ days a year beating the shit out of their bodies making the company money?

Sure some of the mark wrestlers probably think it's awesome the The Rock or Taker or Brock is there. But for guys like Punk, Bryan, Cesaro that shit has to demoralizing.

I'd rather see him have a go at acting tbh. If Batista can get high profile movie roles then there has to be hope for Punk lol.

No doubt he could do both! He has legit charisma, I would love to see him take on some interesting roles outside of action movies.

lol at the 2k jab
This reminds me, when they aired the WWE 2K15 Roster Reveal on the Network, they made a point out of editing the huge pop Punk got from the crowd there to complete silence. Given this revelation, that makes it even more funny haha.

he really sounds obcessed with the WM main event. probably justifiably so to be honest

that was a good listen

He accomplished everything else, it was the last thing he hadn't done yet, makes sense.

I did say it was justifiable :)

cant wait for the next one with the emails

Im pretty Austin sure is a little bit back in the pockets with WWE with the way they've been promoting his stuff lately. Id very much doubt that he brings up Punk to Vince at all.
