Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

That was fucking fantastic!

Looks like an updated version of the original trilogy aesthetic which is exactly what I was hoping for.

About the cross guard on the lightsaber......serves the same purpose as on a metal sword, used to parry and guard your hand. Don't see the problem except visually I think I probably prefer the simpler old style sabers.

The stormtrooper pop-up at the beginning was a bit cheesy though.

How anyone could be a fan of the originals and be disappointed in a very short teaser like this is beyond me.

I am excited. A whole year to wait though. Can't wait for a full trailer.

Reminds me of all those racist people watching Hunger Games tweeting "did anybody else care less about Rue when you found out she was black?"
I don't understand this. It said quite plainly in the book itself that Rue was not white.

“I throw my spear, which I’m not too bad at actually, if I don’t have to throw too far, and see the little girl from District 11 standing back a bit, watching us. She’s the twelve-year-old, the one who reminded me so of Prim in stature. Up close she looks about ten. She has bright, dark, eyes and satiny brown skin and stands tilted up on her toes with her arms slightly extended to her sides, as if ready to take wing at the slightest sound. It’s impossible not to think of a bird. I pick up another spear while Peeta throws. “I think her name’s Rue,” he says softly.”

What an incredibly weird trailer. The juxtaposition of the narration and the visuals, that goofy lightsaber, the box bike....just weird.

So Tatooine, lightsabers, stormtroopers, Millenium Falcon, TIE Fighters, and something about the Dark Side. So it's nostalgia bait. About what I expected. Can't really judge anything from the trailer yet.

to be fair, like 80% and upwards of this thread is people being hyped and positive about this.

Only a handful of people didn't like it at all, some people have issues with Abrams as a director in general, and a few just think the crossguards on the lightsaber look dumb.

but in general, i think GAF loves this teaser. (unlike the Jurassic World Trailer)

Forreal. I lived in the Jurassic World trailer thread, and this place is rainbows and free iphones for everyone in comparison.

Everyone's in here complaining about the lightsaber while I was losing it at how cool it seemed. That cross.

Soccer ball robot is the only thing in this trailer that was really questionable.

I don't think Abrams has ever made a good film really, but I also think he was the perfect choice for SW7. His entire career feels like it was building towards making Star Wars.

I think this is going to be the first non-Cameron film to hit two billion.

I disagree with the notion that Abrams hasn't made a good film, but I do agree with the sentiment that his whole career has been building towards this film.

Which is why I'm disappointed he's not directing the entire trilogy.

the narration really is weird

like I dont really care for that speech, nore it trying to end on a big note with a phrase like ".. and the light"

it's super weird, feels like random dialogue

LET IT GO!!!

lol it was the obvious answer

I don't think i could be as hyped for a film coming out in over a year. I'm so glad it's out for Christmas as well.

I don't care if everybody is saying/ reporting that the voice is Andy Serkis. Even if Serkis himself is saying it.

That is 100% bonafide Cum per batch.

I almost had a fucking orgasm over the first Phantom Menace trailer. After this I was like 'looks nice'.

And it does look nice, but judging from the camera work, photography and tone, it really doesn't look like the Star Wars I know and love at all. They even fudged the music at the end.

How is Dark Side and lightsabers nostalgia baits? Those are pretty much the basis of the entire universe.

The Milenium Falcon might be (but it's a teaser so that little of nostalgia bait is cool) but the rest it's just standard part of the Star Wars world.

What a weird comment.

Apart from hovering, a "big wheeled" construction like this seems to be the best choice for traversing the dunes and uneven/unpaved city streets of Tatooine. Look at how fast it's going!

showing parts of the universe = nostalgia bait apparently

Yeah, it feels like they didn't complete that last sentence. But I'm a huge fan of the saber, and I'm sure they'll find a good way to use it. Love most of the updates they did to the old stuff too. New storm troopers seem okay, but the saber and the new X-wings and pilot gear look great, and I really like the box bike. Looks very Tatooine-y. It looks functional and rugged, and moreso in the Star Wars sensibility than the "Alien" kind.

Yes someone agrees about TPM teaser finally. (not forever alone)

I mean I felt more in those opening sentences in TPM teaser than I did this entire teaser for TFA.

I just hope Abrams/the writing team tells a straight-forward story. None of that mystery box shit. It makes everything he touches feel slightly emptier than it should, despite him being a competent filmmaker.

I think re-using the ship designs is definitely nostalgia bait. Same for the Storm Trooper armor. The Millenium Falcon is fine, but X-Wings and TIE Fighters should be out of date and out of use by now.

I actually like that.

I'm hoping in reality this is more like the epilogue of the original trilogy. It's a vehicle for launching the new characters and current threat, but the final chapter in the original cast's arcs. I want him to be closing the original series, and using it to introduce the next series, then passing it on.

Feels very natural to me.

The teaser was clearly made to appeal to fans of the original trilogy. Get them excited first and foremost. I don't think the whole movie will be like that, it'll be very disappointing if it's just callbacks and references, but that's what the trailer was intended for.

response is incredibly positive for something with this level of expectation

JJ is drunk from champagne right about now

Yeah, you know what, I take back what I said earlier about all the negativity. For something with such insane expectations, this star wars trailer being recieved (mostly) positively outside of the new saber is a huge accomplishment.
