Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

that's what I hate about these new episodes, the fates of luke, Solo and Leia are again at the mercy of the script. now we get to know what happens to them instead of imagining ourselves what is their final place in the story.

Luke prevailed as the ultimate hero in science fiction in 1977 at the end of Return of the Jedi.

36 years pass and now he may get killed to give way to some lame new hero, fuck everyone involved in that decision if it happens.

:(

You had to have realized they were all gonna die at some point. I mean, none of us make it out of life alive.

At least this way, we can see if Luke dies like a hero, or dies whining like a bitch.

Pretty much. There's very little to nitpick about in there, the effects shots, the music, etc, all pretty great and fairly promising.

I still think the design of that lightsaber is open for criticism, and I am on the "it looks dumb and those are useless additions" side of that particular lightsaber. There's no rhyme or reason to it, and it's very difficult to think of a common scenario where that would come in handy.

You make a good point,

However light-sabres by their very design have never been very practical, (talk about bringing a sword to a gun fight)

They are more status symbols that the most practical of weapons.

Having a lengthy debate about radicalised design choices is kinda odd

starwars-obsessed-GAF, will you cry if either Luke or Han Solo die in any of the 3 remaining episodes??

I am dreading seeing Luke die and turn to light, I will feel like shit but It's totally happening, I can feel it.
No, bring on fresh faces.

It looks so good. Is the guy at the start the lead character?

Love the sith new dark style, I hope the tone of that scene will be common in these new movies. The sith are far cooler than the light side, come on JJ make these films about the sith!!
The male lead apparently, yes! London lad at that!

They have to die. I've pretty much come to grips with that. But yeah. It needs to be handled just right.

You know it's gonna happen. Luke will be the new Obi Wan.

but it sucks!! just think about everything Luke went through in those epic episodes 4-6, he trained with yoda, he lost a hand battling his father, managed to use the force like nobody else in the galaxy since Darth Vader.

and then killed? boooo that film, booo that episode

Everyone dies. Luke deserves a heroic death saving the die. A lot more fitting of the character than dying of old age. Same goes for Han.

I haven't been following this until today, but I assume it will be in 3D?

Yep, and IMAX (shot natively on IMAX cameras for a number of scenes)

Hamil can die and still come back as a force ghost. Han can die going out like a boss and saving the day somehow.

I really don't think Han is going to make it out of this film alive. Give him the heroes death in 7. He is 71. I don't think he has a whole trilogy in him at this point.

New Star Wars trailer comes out. 99% of the conversation is bitching about the lightsaber design. It looks better than Maul's dumbass staff or whatever.
This. In our world people put side blades on broad swords for apparently no reason. Why not Star Wars?

Also, I love how much more "alive" this movie looks than the 2nd trilogy. The 2nd trilogy (especially the last two movies) seemed way too stoic.

I'm probably
definitely
hearing things, but right when Boyega turns his back you can almost hear Vader exhaling over the droid transmission. It's veeeeeery faint and probably something else, but you never know.

Is there going to be any way to see it in 2D IMAX?

Love IMAX but hate 3D.

Teaser got me hyped. New Saber looks a bit odd, but i don't really have a problem with it.( also who gives a flying fuck about "practicality" in sci fi fantasy?!) Fuckin' Star Wars!

Finally watched it. Fucking hyped. Not sure how it'll turn out though, depends on what kind of light saber they cooked up in that lab.

Sounds like radio static to me.

Vader had better not be in this trilogy, except as a name drop.

dunno if this was already posted:

dumb as shit light saber design

Sith and Jedi build their own light sabers to their liking there is no unified design and in the case of the sith they usually go with really exotic crazy unpractical designs to show what badasses they are and to rub it in the face of the Jedi that they're swords are weak looking in comparison.

Same here. I always assumed ford is in for just one more movie, he better go out like a boss. Plus it would freak everyone out and put real danger into the films. Luke is the one I feel needs to be in all three, he is the master.

Kind of off topic but what happened to the 3D re-releases? Did they cancel the rest after Phantom Menace?

I paid to go see that because I wanted to support it. Was looking forward to A New Hope in theatres again.

Trailer got me hard. Wasn't sure about the lightsaber at first but I do like the idea of a more claymore style saber. It probably wouldn't look as goofy if it had a real crossguard, but if you're fighting against other lightsabers, a real crossguard is just going to get sliced off and not do it's job. I really like the saber crackling the way it does. I'm curious if that's how they're all going to look.

Yup canceled, so stupid. I went to see TPM under the assumption I would get to see them ally. Now history will show a random rerelease of TPM.

Yup, they're dead. A mixture of poor box office preformance and the Disney aquisition.

Canceled I think. The 3D re releases started before the Disney sale and since hardly anyone gave a shit for the first one it kinda faded away.

I have a feeling Luke will have the same saber he does in ROTJ and it will look the same ie. "classic". My gut tells me the one we see in this teaser has something *different* about it other than the obvious appearance.

They bombed and Lucas set it up so that if Phantom Menace didn't do well enough, he took his ball and went home. 2D to 3D conversions suck anyway.

I heard they put them on "indefinite hold" after the Disney buyout. The Phantom Menace 3D didn't exactly do huge numbers, so I'm guessing that hurt the chances of there being more.

Of course, George Lucas could be personally blowing every last person who bought a ticket and they'd still have problems selling tickets to any version of The Phantom Menace.

I bet that crossguard gets used to disarm someone in a lightsaber battle. Blades clash and he hooks that behind the opponent's saber and flips it out of their hands.

Vader had better not be in this trilogy, except as a name drop.

If he turns up, after Abrams resorted to copying storylines from old Star Trek movies after one film, I'm going to lose a lot of faith. He's got problems if he takes over longstanding franchises with literally an entire galaxy to explore and has to raid past instalments that were neatly tied up for ideas.

That's probably it.

I didn't hear radio static, I heard an Imperial probe droid.
Yeah, I heard the probe droid, but there was something else too. It was probably just part of the score or something.

I think this:

Looks dumber than the broadsword
Christ, that CG doesn't exactly hold up in a still. Those hands and lightsabers... ewwww.

I want to desperately give them the benefit of the doubt with that hilt, but my rational brain just keeps screaming "that's fucking retarded".

I really don't understand this line of thinking. Rationality pretty much goes out the window when watching Star Wars, and that's okay! I mean, shit, shouldn't a rational mind flip out at something as un-aerodynamic as the Millennium Falcon doing that maneuver? Or really any Star Wars ship flying in atmo?
