This was worth the asking price just for the privilege of scrolling through the music in the sound Test menu. The effort put into it is mind boggling.

I'm really not huge on the selection of Pokemon arrangements in this game in general. Vs. Cynthia is definitely the most disappointing, but the selection of songs kinda leaves a lot to be desired, imo. Like, the new 4th gen Wild Battle arrangement is cool, but... we already had that song done for Brawl, and it's not really a particularly remarkable tune in the first place.

basically what i'm trying to say is where the fuck was the 5th gen battle music that's what i was most looking forward to :(

I'm just glad that Gen 5 wasn't ignored in these games like RSE was (for the most part) in Brawl. We got N's Castle as a 3DS stage and all of the Gen 5 arrangements are fantastic, and there's quite a few of them.

Vs. Elite Four or Vs. Colress would have been real nice, though. :V

The battle themes died so that Route 10 and N's Castle Medley could live, it's a tough trade off.
I'm more disappointed that the hot mess that is the Team Flare theme was remixed (and in fairness to Sakuraba he actually brushed it up quite well) while the Team Plasma theme was left out in the cold.
Oh yeah we did got one Gen 5 battle theme, shame they botched the remix for vs Reshiram/Zekrom.

I found a Smash + adapter for $110AUD... I'm so fucking torn. The game itself is only $60AUD. Should I risk trying to order the adapter cheaper directly from Nintendo?

Vs Colress should have gotten a remix, it's one of the best battle themes in the series...

The game FINALLY came in the mail today.

I played a round of Classic. Made a Mii Fighter. Played a couple of event matches.

Already, I feel like this has the potential to be the best Smash game. Great first impression.

And wow, the game LOOKS so clean and RUNS so buttery smooth, it's mesmerizing.

You want a bad remix, the Egg Planet remix is just terrible. Thank Sakurai is in the game as well.

Sometimes you just get themes that don't benefit from a safe remix unless they're still using live instrumentation, otherwise it's just something of a big downgrade if the remix is played relatively straight and also with cheaper sound quality,
Good Egg Galaxy and a bunch of the Kid Icarus Uprising remixes fall into this position, meanwhile some other remixes from the same games like the Observatory and Destroyed Skyworld at least come across as different enough to not make it feel like as much of a miss even without the benefit of orchestration and all that.

Luckily, my copy of Smash arrived before the weekend! Been playing it for a bit and it's really fun! Feels really strange to play it after being used to Brawl, but after a while I think I'm in love with the new approach. It honestly almost feels better than Melee. The cartoon-y style is great and the new physics have a perfect balance somewhere between Melee and Brawl.

Going to end up playing this a whooooole lot these coming days. The single player modes, while having lots of content, feel like they lack some... Adventure Mode, so to say. Even Classic feels a bit off this time around (while the 3DS version seems great). I also think Smash Run would've been a great addition ala City Trial in Kirby Air Ride rather than Smash Tour. But time will then how I feel as these are only initial impressions.

I also tried some online and it worked relatively well. I did have some minor lag in most matches, although there was one player that was essentially free of it. It was a lot of fun. I kinda wish I had some Wii U Friends to try out my internet connection, as I have no idea if that's the cause of the lag or not. My NNID is "Marower", so add me if some EU players ever want to play!

Also, Ike is the best. Everyone calling him bad is wrong. >:(

I want to learn how to properly play smash and all of its movement intricacies that are not explained in the game.

Where do I start?

This is what playing as Metaknight is like now:

There's a LOT of redundancy in the music. Seriously. There better be DLC CD's in the future.

I don't know how I'd be able to survive without the choice of 8 different DK Island Swings, 4 versions of Mute City, 3 vs Ridley themes, 3 versions of the Dark World, 3 Area 6 remixes and well it just keeps going on like this!

Yup. Not sure what they were thinking with some of the music choices.

Melee still has the best Smash Bros soundtrack. Quality >>>>>>>> quantity, kids

Yeah, I think all gen 3 got was... Wild Battle and Victory Road in Brawl, no? As a whole, Brawl seemed to be trying to cover series mainstay music like the Main Theme, Pokemon Center, and Gym theme primarily. I guess with what they had left over, they decided to mostly focus on the most recent release (and we didn't even get one of the most memorable tunes, Vs. Cynthia, until this game, though admittedly that is after reappearances in both BW and BW2).

Other than being a bit bitter about the dearth of battle music, I'm pretty happy with how Gen 5 was represented. Even if I don't particularly enjoy playing on it, the stage we got highlighted one of the most interesting parts of that generation. I'm not totally in love with all the arrangements, though. Route 23's is fine, but... I wouldn't really call it a track I was hoping to see, either. Probably because I didn't even remember it at all. Vs. Reshiram/Zekrom isn't all that exciting either.

I do dig Route 10 a lot, and it's cool that we managed to even get credits music in the N's Castle Medley.

Honestly I thought that Vs. Team Flare is one of the more memorable tracks in the XY OST (though I don't really consider that saying a lot), but I think the arrangement of that is neat too. Almost sounds to me like what a Neo Team Flare theme would be, in a similar vein to the change between the Team Plasma and Neo Team Plasma theme. But yeah, shame that we got Galactic and Flare, but no Plasma.

Vs. Reshiram/Zekrom is a track that I've never really considered to be that interesting, and the new version didn't really do a whole lot to change my mind, lol. Would've taken the general Vs. Legendary music over it.

Vs Colress should have gotten a remix, it's one of the best battle themes in the series...

Yeah, there's all kinds of cool one-off battle music in those games that would've fit into Smash Bros well. I probably would've even taken rips, to be honest! The Bowser's Inside Story rips are already serving me quite well.

GGs, Ammo! I have to stop for a bit, unfortunately.

Nice Wario. I definitely need practice against him. Hopefully we can play some more soon. You're from the UK, right? Lag was a little unfortunate sometimes.

Belgium actually, but close enough :p. Some matches were lagless though, weird how others had lag. Let's play again later.

Hmm. It depends on how you measure it. Quality does indeed beat quantity, but nearly every track from Melee is in Smash 4, and while the few omissions are upsetting, there are certainly enough standouts among the Brawl/Smash 4 music tracks to make up for it.

In terms of quality-to-crap ratio though, Melee wins hands-down. Melee didn't have a single weak music track (some people hate the DK Rap, but I love that it's there), but both Brawl and Smash 4 have a fair few duffers.

Are you using an Ethernet adapter?

Curious. Does it make that much of a difference? I've always played games online through both ethernet and wireless depending on which device I'm on and never had a big issue. I was getting a massive delay in my attacks, a good few seconds behind. Surely a cable isn't gonna help with that?

I should note I've only had time to try one game so far.

Melee's was all new remixes too outside the 64 tracks iirc.

I don't mind bringing back old tracks if they fit the stage but sometimes they don't. :( Smash 4 has a lot of recycling going on.

I have no issue with bringing back old tracks if the soundtrack both builds upon it and doesn't fall back on it too often. Unfortunately, I feel that Smash 4's soundtrack (and some other areas like stage selection) suffers from both redundancy and using returning content exclusively to fill in some holes in representation.

Like, absolutely nothing brand new for Wario really shouldn't fly, it's just lame.

This is so frustrating. Still having ridiculous problems with my LAN adapter. Here's what's happened so far:

Hey GAF,

I just received my LAN adapter, and I'm having some problems. When I go to play an online game (1 on 1 For Glory), everything runs smooth as butter, EXCEPT for that every 15 seconds or so, everything stops for about a second and a half. It's like someone walking up and pressing pause every 15 seconds.

Here's some things I've tried to fix it:
- Ensured I am using wired (deleted wifi connections)
- Restarted router
- Restarted Wii U
- Connected with multiple randoms, and not just one person. Happens EVERY game
- Netflix runs perfectly

Any advice would be amazing. Any settings I can tweak or anything?

I've played around with a bunch of other settings, and I can't get things to work at all. I'm so dumb when it comes to networky stuff that this is really frustrating. Anyone have any other advice? :(

DK and F-zero got shafted hard with that.

Like 8 Jungle Themes for DK

only two Tropical Freeze songs and one of them is the fucking Jungle Theme again

No Big Top Bop, no Punch Bowl, no Volcano Dome. In a goddamn fighting game.

No Big Blue remix for F-Zero either. It's my favorite F-Zero song :(
