Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Curious. Does it make that much of a difference? I've always played games online through both ethernet and wireless depending on which device I'm on and never had a big issue. I was getting a massive delay in my attacks, a good few seconds behind. Surely a cable isn't gonna help with that?

I should note I've only had time to try one game so far.

I can't speak specifically for Smash yet as I haven't cracked my copy open yet, but it'll keep YOUR connection stable. It's a must on PS360 fighting games IMO and it removes all lag spikes I have while playing DotA. I consider it a necessity but your mileage may vary. At the very least it'll give you a consistent level of performance.

It won't stop lag if your opponent has a shitty connection unfortunately. That's on them.

FINALLY!!!!

The Smash family is complete

Got a GCN adapter and controller as well.

That's a good point. Being a fighting game I may as well dig up an extra cable. Probably was a lag issue I was having though since it felt like I was playing on dial up.

By the way, has anyone noticed the AI seem much more aware of how to use their skills than melee? (skipped brawl mostly) I haven't even jacked the slider up far but I caught Ness using his thunder skill to smack himself in the ass for a boost earlier. I don't remember that from melee, but it's been a while since I last played it too.

I finally had a chance to play with some friends who picked up a copy yesterday and...yep, this is Smash Bros. It was interesting to see the new content but after two matches, everyone was back to using the characters they usually play as. Boring.

I'd still like to get the game down the road to try out the single player stuff. I've always enjoyed these games more as single player experiences for whatever reason.

Just played my first online match. WTF the lag is awful in this! I'll try another match or two to see if it gets better, but that was absolutely pathetic.

EDIT: Attempt #2: A communication error has occurred.

Yup. Not sure what they were thinking with some of the music choices.

Melee still has the best Smash Bros soundtrack. Quality >>>>>>>> quantity, kids
No need to spoiler that, it's the truth.
Even if I do appreciate setting my music sliders with many great rips and remixes vying for attention there's something to be said for the more cohesive and quality Melee selection that felt like it made every remix count.

While having tons of music is great in concept more often than not it's left me wondering why a good half of it is either redundant, ill fitting or just kind of lame.
Brawl while still going the quantity route balanced its dealing out of new remixes a lot better, it was fun seeing the various takes on classic themes for each franchise. Then in SSB4 they just threw like 2-3 new mixes max for the mid tier series complete with that previously mentioned redundancy with some getting less (F-Zero) or even none in Wario's case and that to me is a let down no matter how much good stuff there may be in here on the whole.

I do dig Route 10 a lot, and it's cool that we managed to even get credits music in the N's Castle Medley.

Honestly I thought that Vs. Team Flare is one of the more memorable tracks in the XY OST (though I don't really consider that saying a lot), but I think the arrangement of that is neat too. Almost sounds to me like what a Neo Team Flare theme would be, in a similar vein to the change between the Team Plasma and Neo Team Plasma theme. But yeah, shame that we got Galactic and Flare, but no Plasma.

Vs. Reshiram/Zekrom is a track that I've never really considered to be that interesting, and the new version didn't really do a whole lot to change my mind, lol. Would've taken the general Vs. Legendary music over it.

Guess you didn't get that feeling of immediate disappointment from the intro of Reshiram/Zekrom alone then, they sucked the life out of it!
Team Flare is the track I tend to remember for gradually grating on me the more I had to hear it through the final Flare sections of X&Y, I did not find the deliberately distorted theme to hold up with that much repetition, you could say I found it memorable for different reasons.

Like 8 Jungle Themes for DK

only two Tropical Freeze songs and one of them is the fucking Jungle Theme again

No Big Top Bop, no Punch Bowl, no Volcano Dome. In a goddamn fighting game.

No Big Blue remix for F-Zero either. It's my favorite F-Zero song :(

I found it weird they had more Returns songs over TF considering there is REALLY recent stuff with Wooly World(which already got a remix) and MK8 tracks. Fuuuuuuck.

And with omega mode you could actually play on his stages finally. Though I like the new one for craziness that isn't outright stupid like rumble falls was.

For f-zero I just cranked up shotgun kiss and white land.

Writing the game off is a huge mistake imo

Ah, what a double-edged sword playing with the GameCube controller is turning out to be...

On the plus side, my Brawl muscle memory snapped back in about two fights. On the bad side... my Brawl muscle memory snapped back, meaning the things I know how to do in 3DS, but never did in Brawl? Yeah, it's gone for now.

Like my Peach on 3DS is... okay, but I play her like in Brawl on Wii U and that just doesn't work right. Same with Zelda, although that's already becoming a nice little fusion of skills.

So yeah, some adjustment required.

I wonder if i'm the only person who cranked Yuga's boss them onto max for temple, when it comes to throwing in a few tracks from more recent games I was pleased to see that this made the jump, it makes for a surreal trip through the main menus if you leave it on the sound test.

I turned it off

I bought the game this morning with the gamecube adapter online. I have had my order confirmed but as of rechecking the online store again for other games it's saying it's now sold out. So seems I was lucky I did it when I did, hopefully it does end up getting sent.

Well as long as you didn't turn off Mangrove Cove.
Mangrove Cove is my least favorite TF song and it bums me out it was the one original song from the game that they chose for Smash (prob because it's the level 1 song)

Still an ok song though, but it left me disappointed :(

My GameCube adapter came in today, really glad I ordered it before they sold out everywhere. Now I can finally play without having to make sure my controls are set every time.

Don't worry, you still got Swinger Flinger. Just ignore the other 20 jungle themes.

Swinger Flinger is my favorite Island Swing rendition of them all so I wasn't too upset it got in, heh. They went beyond overkill with Island Swing though. There are so many amazing songs across the DK series and it's always the same old jungle, the same old Island Swing song. Sigh... at least we got the K.Rool battle theme and Stickerbrush Symphony in Brawl.

TRIBAL STYLE

I have a question. I have the lan adapter and the game cube adapter. Gcn adapter uses two USB cables from what I can see? The lan uses one. How do I make these all connect at once?

This is so frustrating. Still having ridiculous problems with my LAN adapter. Here's what's happened so far:

I've played around with a bunch of other settings, and I can't get things to work at all. I'm so dumb when it comes to networky stuff that this is really frustrating. Anyone have any other advice? :(
Use wifi? I doubt the LAN adapter is significantly better in any way, unless your router is extremely far from your Wii.

The Wii U has four USB ports.

I'm curious why. The controls are almost identical to the gamepad or pro controller. The only difference is that the Z button is high instead of low. Is that what you mean? I'm asking because I have ordered some controllers and the adapter. I expect I will still set my controls every time. It is immensely helpful to have my name above my character instead of "P1".

The console has 2 USB ports on the back and 2 on the front, behind a little "door".

You have boring friends. :(

I like that Jazz style and Tribal style jungle themes were both remixed by the same guy who clearly just couldn't get enough of that Island Swing, if nothing else he was committed to giving us more of the same.

The fact that both TF tracks were from the early trailers and Swinger Flinger is named incorrectly makes me consider that the music choice decision came from those more than anything else.
Then again early stage themes over better choices is a running trend throughout this game so who knows.

I'm sure the rest of the Tropical Freeze music will come as part of the Retro Studios DLC that brings stages based on TF and Prime 3 (along with Prime music of course, so that's where the Prime menu theme vanished to!) alongside playable Dixie Kong and graduating Dark Samus from assist to playable, I can dream...

Speaking of assists, I remember Sakurai saying the Wii U would have a few exclusive assists yet I get the feeling that never panned out from what I've seen so far, which is to say is Issac even cut from AT duty?
Plus they don't factor into All star either thinking back to his honeyed words months ago.
