Can't believe there was no Luke tease.

But omg its Star Wars. And there was the millennium falcon and tie fighters and x-wings!!!! No amount of cynicym can make this not exciting!!!!

Seriously, it might be a self-learned Sith; meaning someone who has been reading/researching Sith stuff and has developed his own "nature" as a result, so it would make sense that his saber is very different from any other because maybe he didn't quite have an exact manual on making one.

And him being self-learned could make him a "bigger threat" than past Siths, for both the dark and light side. This guy might be bigger than the usual light/dark conflict. That's reflected in his saber: it's different than anything we've seen before, it might be more "powerful".

Makes sense. It's either something like that, or they're changing lightsabers to make them look flamy.

In any case, I like the way the light looks.

considering we got lightsabers out the ass in the prequel trilogy they sort of lost their effectiveness to me. like it ceased being an intimidating weapon by the end of attack of the clones.

i welcome this messy looking flame. looks menacing.

careful you may end up suspending your disbelief... wouldn't want to enjoy a non-OT entry

I wonder if that lightsaber sound at the very end could have been a luke tease

Attack of the Clones did more damage to the Star Wars franchise and the Jedi mythos for me than Phantom Menace ever did. What a shit fest.

Agreed with this actually. TPM gets a lot of deserved schtick, but man did Attack of the Clones kill a lot of joy for me. Such a terrible, terrible movie.

For those complaining about the hilt - since when is a lightsaber ever safe and practical? With all the twirling around.

Can we just I dunno, enjoy something for once? Like, take off the over-analyzing goggles and just have fun for once? Geez Louise.

I don't care for practicality. It looks stupid.

Yup. I don't really mind The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith to be honest (even though the beginning of TPM is awful), but I really don't like Attack of the Clones, both for what it did to the overall story and it just being a bad movie in general.

Attack of the Clones is half of a good movie and half of a bad movie. The Obi-Wan half is great at least.
Actually, scratch that. Some of it is decent, but the Anakin bits and from when he lands on Geonosis on it's pretty shit.

It's also means no more

Again, the problem with this argument is that it'd cut through the saber hilt anyway. And if the metal is Mandalorian iron, why not make the entire guard out of it and avoid the obvious danger to yourself?

Vents make more sense.

Wtf was Lucas thinking with this crap? Or that part when all the kids are playing around with deadly swords for some inexplicable reason. Pretty much much anyone could handle the lightsaber usage better than the prequels did, so I'm sure JJ will be fine there. I'm just hoping for some good dogfights; that last shot is promising.

While my first impression of the narrator was, like many others, Cumberbatch, I do agree that it's Serkis going back and listening to it again. I think it's because we've all seen Desolation of Smaug recently, and so that voice is fresh in our minds, and it sounds like Serkis is kind of channeling Cumberbatch. Serkis's voice is deeper than a lot of people think, and he's got a really wide range for voiceover.. the more you listen to Serkis, the more you can tell that's totally him.

The people who said it was Max von Sydow need to get their ears checked.. von Sydow's voice is utterly unique and unmistakable. You wouldn't be having to guess if it were him.

you could were vibromesh gloves? i don't know, but I always thought the force was used to protect oneself and to add weight to the blade. Which is why only force users could handle lightsabers.

One thing this teaser reminded me of is that I have the official soundtracks in my music collection. I really hope that they release one for this movie in Blu-ray Pure Audio. I've cranked the Imperial March (Vader's theme) a bunch of times on my 7.1 system when I've had visitors over. To have the next soundtrack in high res and potentially in surround would be awesome.

Which is exactly why I find a guard pointless to begin with. Not a single Jedi or Sith have been shown to use one in the films because they simply don't need it. Luke's hand was sliced off with a clean swipe and Dooku was outmaneuvered in a way that a guard wouldn't have saved his hands.

The only one who would have benefited is Grievous but he's not a force user.

I really hope that all the other lightsabers in this follow the thin "blade" design of the OT and the crossguard one. If I recall correct, they were way too thick in the PT.

You focus on your own blade not your opponents, or at least that's all the argument you need to justify a hilt.

Maybe there will be an awesome scene where it extends even further and turns into a trident of some sort, with mother fuckers getting slayed and shit. Yea!

If we didn't do that, there wouldn't be a purpose to having a thread on this, let alone a message board. It's an 88 second teaser. What do you want people to do? Pat each other on the back and congratulate each other? Of course people are going to analyze and comment on every little detail. Some of us are enjoying the conversation.

Anyone else glad that Han and Luke were not shown yet? It makes the trailer more enjoyable for some reason, because it doesn't already spoil the audience with what is inevitably to be shown.

Yes, a person carrying a 5 foot blade of light that can cut through any part of their body like butter is now put in immense perril because there's two sharp pencils sticking out the side.

Because the reason they never cut off parts of their body is because the blade isn't short enough.

I mean seriously, even a Sith can do something because it looks cool (arguably, that basically seems to be the thing they do). Not like there's any practical benefit to a double ended lightsaber, and if you want to talk about increased peril to its user let's talk about that. Woops, I turned it on when it was slightly over my crotch and now I don't have balls!

I think JJ will be much more at home with Star Wars than Trek. Just hearing the music and the sound effects brought back all sorts of good memories.

Darth Maul to make a resurgence. He never died, nor did he ever age. And he's Luke's lover who stuck an anal probe up his ass and turned him to the dark side.
