Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

Not 100% on these codes, but I think they should work!

Random question: I am new to the PC side of things, and just installing Origin. Seems a nice store and what not, but people seem to greatly dislike it. I'm interested in playing the Mass Effect Trilogy (please no comments about the third game) and see that it is on sale for $15 on Origin. Any reason why I shouldn't buy it?
You have to buy BioWare Bucks to buy the DLC on PC, which is as bad as the old Microsoft Point system except for the fake that BioWare bucks only work on BioWare games. Also, no controller support.

Thanks for reminding this firehawk since now my slight interest on DA:I is completely vanished.
DA:O is really great game, and I want to replayed it for the sake of memory, but I'm always repulsed by how the DLC was handled.

Whoa, hold the phone. The PC ports of 360 games don't have controller support?

Mass Effect 1 doesn't but I'm pretty sure 2 and 3 do. The Trilogy is totally worth it. Origin isn't bad, people just get salty when they're forced to use it to play EA's newer games.

EDIT: I guess ME2 and ME3 don't have controller support after all. :/ I'm still working on the first game.

Two things:

I resent the way EA isn't so much pushing the Origin store as they are attacking Steam. You can buy new EA games all over the place, just not on Steam. Also, EA intentionally designed that lovely Mirror's Edge DLC to be incompatible with the Steam version (it was released just before EA pulled their new games from Steam). It took a few weeks with EA's useless support team to fix a serial key issue before the DLC was playable on my PC. Would have worked fine if it wasn't for that NO STEAM policy.

Naming their digital marketplace "Origin" is ridiculous. If you weren't aware, Origin was a PC developer responsible for some of the best and most honest-to-god-innovative games ever made. They pushed game design and graphics tech farther than anyone at the time. Anyway, you know how EA is now known for buying companies, running their IPs into the ground and then closing the studio? Same thing happened to Origin. I'm still amazed that they had the nerve to re-use that name.

I wouldn't classify that as attacking Steam. And in the end it's all in vain for the unwitting buyer because they'll still have to use Origin to install and run the game anyway. Same deal with people who buy Ubisoft's games on Steam to "avoid Uplay".

I don't like this either and its worthy of a bit of salt but there's no getting around it if we want to play EA's games. Many of them are excellent even with the infamous EA corporate undertow.

I'm still amazed that they had the nerve to use the name.

I didn't know this. Sounds about right for EA.

Alcohol is the death of my wallet during these sales.

"Oh, it's just a few bucks! Do it, you heard it was good, do it, just do it!"

*game gets filed into a dusty corner of the Steam library with 120 other unplayed/unfinished games"

God need a gift for a friend and I am thinking about the Witcher 2, but I have no idea if the game will be a daily or no. So I have no idea if I should wait a bit :/.

Any euro steam users can confirm if dark souls is available on the euro steam store?

I loaded up steam yesterday and on the opening splash page which shows all the deals I am 100 percent sure I saw dark souls prepare to die edition on sale. I closed the window, installed some games and then when I went to search it to find the price I can't find it in the store at all, only dark souls 2.

Wtf?

Is there a GMG coupon that works with the VIP deals at all? I've tried everything, looked at all these coupon websites nothing works. I want Attila, but with a coupon preferably.

Based on what I see here: https://steamdb.info/app/211420/

It should still be available in the euro steam store. Not sure what the issue is.

I am conflicted as to whether to buy Valiant Hearts - Humble store has the game for £5.99. I like the look of it but it is Ubisoft and I have a problem with them; not necessarily because of the most obvious reasons that come to mind...

It might be a daily deal, wait if you can? The game is great based on what I've heard and from a close friend of mine who is in the games industry says it was a fantastic little game, if that means anything.

Going through your link and then clicking through to the steam store gives me a page that says this -

"An error was encountered while processing your request:

This item is currently unavailable in your region"

If I bought a steam key would that work? It's pretty annoying. I got the game free on my 360 but I have been saving it to see if I can find the pc version.

Yes, buying a steam key would work. What's your country btw? Game is showing just fine on my Store(EU2)

It was the company where Chris Roberts (Wing Commander, Star Citizen) got his start. That's why Origin Systems (or something to that effect) is a manufacturer in Star Citizen.

It was the greatest game development studio on Earth. They made worlds. Not like GTA or AC pretend worlds, worlds with people with names who had jobs and lived their lives without you.

Then EA came in, sucked the life out of them, drove Richard Garriott insane and completely killed the company.

Then they named their own download service after it.

Ubisoft will never, ever top that.

... ok they might top that.

What's the consensus on Castlevania Lords of Shadow series? I've never played them and they're at a price I could bite at if there's enough praise.

Depends on how you view them. I played all of 1 and half of mirror of fate.

If you don't compare them to 2d classicvania or metroidvania then part 1 is an amazing game.

Looks great on pc at 1080p. Backgrounds are awesome. Enemies are cool as well. Story was rad. I never played god of war but people compare it to that game.

Mirror of fate is bleh.

I just picked up lords of shadow 2 and I plan on playing that cause I loved the first one but I heard it is just average.

Not a Castlevania game, just in name only. If you want a God of War spectacle fighter then get it.

Skip Lords of Shadow 2.

Speaking of God of War Marlow Briggs is 99cents

Kind of pretty in places, otherwise repetitive and boring, throw away garbage.

Depends on how you view them. I played all of 1 and half of mirror of fate.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll just hold off for now. :)

Los2 is a great third person action game. But one u will play only once.

Grim Dawn isn't on sale anymore but I'm glad I went ahead and bought it, even though I was recommended to pass. This arpg is a lot better than path of exile. Can't really compare it to Diablo 3, maybe more so Diablo 2. It's a Titan Quest game and does everything I like. Check it out next sale!

Can't wait for more news on Lost Ark :(

Hopeing Endless Legend is a daily tomorrow

Or, alot of the talent that defined their successes left to work on their own independent ventures, and Richard Garriott was always insane. Depends on how much you want to angle it to demonize EA.

Decisions, decisions: GRID Autosport or Wreckfest
or why not both
?

I have put around 18 hours into Grid 2 (still playing) so it might be too similar to go with Autosport.

Does anyone have any experience with Wreckfest (Next Car Game)? I loved Destruction Derby 2 as a guide!

Whoah how did I not hear about Styx? Since everyone seems to be glowing about it, can anyone say anything negative about it so I know what to expect?
It's not a super great game, animations are janky, collisions and interacting with the world are a bit suspect which can make some of the stealth sections annoying. It just doesn't feel super polished overall. It might be one of Cyanide's better efforts, but if you have a look at the rest of their library, that gives you a general idea of the ballpark this falls into.

It's an ok game, fairly forgettable. The only people still talking about it are those that really liked it (and that's fair enough).

I believe JaseC has played the game so he can advise you far better than I can. It is a stealth game. Do not play it any other way because you are on a hiding to nothing. This isn't a feel-like-a-badass game with swords and super moves.

If you like slow and methodical stealth gameplay it is a game to consider.

I think a patch was issued to sort out some of the more ropey features?

Probably using the facts would be the best way to do it, including EA's influence on Ultimas 7 +.

But whatever floats your boat.

Wreckfest, no question. Probably the most fun you can have in racing games atm if you love destruction. :D

When's the next sale? I'd definitely be playing it as soon as I get it, just finished up Far Cry 4 and need something else to sink my teeth into

Three weeks but the price will probably be the same in the winter sale. But since you're going to play it right away and the current price is right for you go get it.

I look at it like there wouldn't have even been any Ultimas after part 6, or any of the other projects that EA's financial backing made possible from 1992 onward. The fact that Origin had to go to EA hat in hand tells you exactly how well they were managed up until that point, and while I won't dispute their rigid adherence to a strict release schedule impacted the quality of some of those games, they probably wouldn't have existed without EA.

Definitely!

I've just caved in and bought it, so would love someone in the same situation to play a few multilayer games with.

I didn't even know the game had multiplayer, that makes it more tempting haha

Sounds good, I'll watch a few more Lets Play videos before I buy it but I like what I'm seeing so far
