OH please dude.

That credit is likely just for some ideas and points that Lucas kicked in.

Its most likely an honorary thing given just to give Lucas some sense of involvement.

I am sure 90% of that script is going to be Johnson.

This annoys me. He sold the thing for $4billion.

He should be done with it. If I sell my car I dont still get to drive it.

. . . dark side and the light

Why is everyone assuming Serkis and Driver are playing different characters? Vader was played by James Earl Jones and Davie Prowse, wasn't he?

So whats the point of the little minisabers? If it would act like a real Claymore the opponents beam would just melt through the handle.. This is when Scifi goes bad - when it follows form over function. Abrams is doing it again.

the one design flaw is that the beams don't cover the whole guard
if the bad guy doesn't deflect at least one blow with it I'm going to be super disappointed

Well, it looks somewhat intimidating. Darth Maul's saber did it better though.

I guess the metal part of the hilt still has a beam inside, so if someone tried to slice through it would still clash like normal. The metal just stops the user slicing their fingers off.

Third link doesn't work.

One thing that's not mentioned is the need for the browser's user agent to be changed in order to download videos from Apple's trailer site.

You can install User Agent Switcher (Chrome/Firefox) and add a new blank preset with 'Quicktime' as the User Agent and Name. Downloaded for me fine following that.

Im fine with Lucas giving story ideas as the ideas he had for episode 1-3 were largely fine, it was his garbage writng and directing that ruined those films.

Note: There are lightsaber resistant materials in the comics. Yes this is no longer canonical, but they could add it back in. So the idea the metal would get cut through is not necessarily true.

However my idea on this saber design is that it is just a much older saber and they are exhausts of a sort. Eventually the tech got better, but I think force awakens refers to an ancient sith returning. A true big bad.

That's a nice idea

Exhaust pipes theory needs to be added to the OP.

as well as "hilt merely covering internal beams"
WAj0Kn5.jpg

as well as "possibly ancient, light saber resistant, material"

i love how people bring this up every 5 pages as if it was a new discovery. ;)

Maul's saber was functional.
i actuall don't entirely agree with this. it required him to do all weird flippedy floppy breakdance moves, he wouldn't even be able to performa a straight STAB without having the second blade cut his stomach. it offered no advantages in range because he had to hold the middle portion and couldn't be holding the end, like you'd be holding a spear

it was functional for choreography purposes, but i don't entirely agree with Maul's double edged saber being much more functional than the crossblade one from the trailer.
As soon as they did a regular vertical downards swing towards his head, the saber broke in half trying to block it :P

IMDB says:

Writing Credits (in alphabetical order)
J.J. Abrams ... (screenplay)
Lawrence Kasdan ... (screenplay)
George Lucas ... (characters) <- Probably only the old characters.

I like this.

The lightsaber is awesome.

No new star wars movie is ever going to be good enough for some nerds though. With all the stuff in the original trilogy that is impractical or makes no sense, you're going to get upset by some shit that looks cool and is symbolic? Fuck off.

If you want to go into overnerd limit break, go watch the prequels and jack off to midichlorians and Senate politics and whatever else garbage. You had your movies made by a guy obsessing about stupid inane bullshit. That's not star wars. I want star wars that makes 7 year old me giddy, and 7 year old me certainly wouldn't have complained about some extra lasers on the sword.

true that.

Teaser was great. Very excited.

Hilt saber is not good. People saying this way it will save the hand from being lopped off are wrong. The blade from another saber could cut through the hilt emitters and remove the bearer's fingers. If the handle and hilt are strong enough to resist a saber cut then it would make more sense just to have the entire hilt be made of that material completely.

And I'm pretty sure that every hand cut off in the movies was not due to a missing hilt.

Are those emitters? Or just coverings for the beams? Think about it.

Also, Grievous lost a hand that could have been saved by a crossguard. And even if he hadn't, that doesn't mean it's never happened before in all the thousands of years of Star Wars history. Or do you think that only things that have been shown in the older movies can happen in the newer ones. Then what would be new about them?

Agreed.

People need to stop hanging themselves up on trivial things.

::claps::

On the ball droid being practically possible or not:

well what if the user has saber-resistant robot hands

then it'd work out

Considering Star Wars has always been more Sci Fi spectacle and fantasy than Science I wouldn't think too hard about it

Its just meant to look cool

If you want your Sci Fi to be more grounded than you might have to look elsewhere

I'm not sure why I expected this thread to be anything more than a nit picking shitfest of horribly boring proportions. The internet will ruin this movie before it is released. I thought it looked good for what it's worth - it looks like it captured the look and feel of the first films in a modern context which I think is by far the hardest part to get right .

Without looking at anyone else's reactions, let me just say: looking pretty good. But not enough footage to really get a feeling for the tone of the movie.

Okay, now to see the internet's reaction.

Edit: Yup, just about what I expected.

Trailer was amazing. About the lightsaber, I like it. I like the idea of it being ancient, but what if it's more make-shift, and that this character learned to make their saber from Luke, who now teaches to make sabers with hand guards, since both him and Anakin lost hands.

could it be they chose that design so the lightsaber could be used to poke both or jarjar's eyes out at the same time? it would probably look similiar to this:

10/10

If the second teaser Empire Strikes Back trailer came out in the age of the internet
