Couldn't have said it better myself. Up until now I was wondering how they'd frame shots, and none of those were bad.
 
Some people get so pedantic about what looks cool or realistic in a franchise which (originally) concluded with tribal teddy bears fending off Storm Troopers.

Based on what? The two seconds we see of Boyega & Ridley in which they have no dialogue? If you follow John Boyega and Daisy Ridley on their various social networks they are head over heels giddy they are in this. Far from "phoning it in".

Edit: See the two posters above me. Some of you have an unprecedented ability to foreshadow and see the future. How did the entire movie with people phoning in look to you over the few seconds of no-dialogue screen time they had in the trailer?
 
I'm not the biggest fan of the "broadsaber" or whatever we're calling it either but let's just wait and see. The internet thought the Tumbler was the worst thing ever when it was leaked before Batman Begins came out and it ended up be pretty badass. We need to see how JJ uses this thing before we can really judge it.

That was my impression of those two seconds, yes. Nothing in those few moments gripped me nor gave me a sense that those actors could sell their personas. And that is something that you can accomplish in mere moments, but I don't see it here.

If you're going to show me quick cuts, I'm going to judge those quick cuts. That was enough to show me their visual sense is right fucking on. But that seems like the easy part honestly. Memorable characters that you give a shit about who can sell that world - thats what the prequels lacked.

Your post is just as empty as what you're claiming these people to be. There wasn't enough of ANYTHING to make such a judgement. There will not be enough until you see the actual movie.

We aren't taking a different point seeing their acting positively or in a optimistic light. The point is you can't judge acting from a literal 2 second quick shot without any dialogue at all. That is just absurd what you are trying to do.

This reverence to original movies is what caused every Jedi to wear stupid freaking robes in the Prequels just because a desert dwelling hermit madman was wearing robes. "Oh all Jedi have to wear stupid looking robes all the stupid time" George Lunas said while lovingly crating Jar Jar Binks and ruining my childhood.

Absolutely laughable that people are predicting a whole movie will be shit based on an 88 second teaser, most of which was black screens.

You're making rash and baseless judgements without any evidence to support it. This trailer is not sufficient evidence. That's a fact. So any opinion you have regarding the characters' quality is baseless because no one can make an accurate assessment based off of a few seconds of their screen time.
 
I am just glad John Boyega shut down his twitter account a month or so ago. He would be flooded with comments like this directly sent to him probably.

I was hoping to see character, and in those brief flashes nothing gripped me or stood out besides the visual effects and cinematography, and prioritizing visual effects without establishing character or space opera is exactly where my low expectations come from.

But as a million voices are crying out at the idea of making snap judgments from quick flashes, I'll leave you to it.

God forbid people discuss what was presented in the teaser.

I dont think you understand what a teaser is. Teasers aren't meant to show off character like you are seemingly disappointed it didn't do. Wait for the first actual trailer for that stuff.
