Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

Bought the Black Flag standard edition, looking forward to playing my first AC game :)

I really hope Shovel Knight gets a discount during the Winter Sale.

What's the consensus on Castlevania Lords of Shadow series? I've never played them and they're at a price I could bite at if there's enough praise.

IMO LoS 1>Mirror of Fate>LoS 2

If anything get LoS 1 at least, it's a good GoW clone, MoF is decent if you like games that feature exploring and some backtracking to get items after gaining new skills or the like.

All the AC games are 75% off, so perhaps grab a few more while you can?

AC2 and Brotherhood are must-play.

Got Castlevania LoS 1 and 2, Kingdom of Amalur, also Mass Effect trilogy from Origin even if no controller support. :/

Are those ports playable and do they require Uplay?

The VIP price is higher now than it was yesterday, and the vouchers do not work with VIP - not sure how you get £8.92, because I don't think it is possible.

It's either £13.12 with that voucher, or £13.65 via VIP without the vouchers
They raised the price some time after I posted the code, EW and Wolf were £8.92 before that. Still doesn't beat the very limited Gamersgate sale, of course, heh.

Any euro steam users can confirm if dark souls is available on the euro steam store?

I loaded up steam yesterday and on the opening splash page which shows all the deals I am 100 percent sure I saw dark souls prepare to die edition on sale. I closed the window, installed some games and then when I went to search it to find the price I can't find it in the store at all, only dark souls 2.

Wtf?

Hi, I'm in Europe and the answer is no. Only DS2 and its DLC.

Its available for me

still bought it from amazon.com $4.99 vs 4,99€

I look at it like there wouldn't have even been any Ultimas after part 6, or any of the other projects that EA's financial backing made possible from 1992 onward. The fact that Origin had to go to EA hat in hand tells you exactly how well they were managed up until that point, and while I won't dispute their rigid adherence to a strict release schedule impacted the quality of some of those games, they probably wouldn't have existed without EA.

Then there's the floppies vs CD problem they were prey to.

Yep. It's double DRM. You have to register the games once in Uplay, and then it launches automatically every time you start the game from Steam. Not as annoying as it could be. But I never found the Dark Souls and GFWL to be something that bothered me either.

AC2 has a weird bug that causes constant micro stutter if I play it a 60 fps locked. If I switch to 50 it runs much better. But it's playable, definitely. The game is starting to show its age, though.

I'll keep an eye on GMG thank you.

But isn't it currently on sale for 50% off? Should I wait?

GMG seems to be cycling VIP deals daily so if you think the current price is a bit too high, it might be worth the gamble of waiting to see if it ends up a GMG VIP deal.

Bought some Visual Novels (Vlad the Impaler & Journal) with the rest of credit in my Steam Wallet. Any other good VN's and/or Choose Your Own Adventure games on sale?

Also, finally bought Deadly Premonition on Steam since it's pretty cheap right now. (-90% off so instead of €24,99 only €2,49)

What's your take on anime style and do you prioritize rather pure fun or emotion and story?

I don't mind Anime style. As for the story, a good mix of silly and serious makes it all the more interesting for me. A good example would be Hatoful Boyfriend, I really liked that game. Sadly most of the VN's I see everywhere are more dating sim and additionally to that more geared towards boys and men. What I am looking for is something like HB where you play as a girl or boy and flirt with boys. It couldn't hurt if it also had an interesting underlying story.

So I clicked on Arkham Origins and there's 3 options for the game, all priced at $5. There's the base game, Arkham Origins GOTY, and Arkham Origins GOTY Edition. Does it matter which GOTY version I grab?

Whoah how did I not hear about Styx? Since everyone seems to be glowing about it, can anyone say anything negative about it so I know what to expect?

It's definitely one of the better stealth games released in recent years. As has been mentioned, the hand-to-hand combat, well, sucks, but if you're one for ghosting/stealth kills, it's a rewarding experience. The level design favours verticality over traditional linear design, which means there is often more than one way to skin a metaphorical cat, but in later stages, tougher enemy types can prove to be an unfair frustration more than a genuine challenge (e.g. knights can only be killed via poison or unfastened chandelier, and particularly in later levels it's not always possible to dispose of them, even via creative bait tactics). There's a degree of replayability insofar that there are a variety of challenges to unlock for each mission (namely collect all tokens/don't kill anybody/don't trigger alerts/complete the mission within x minutes), which encourages experimentation, but the closest the game offers to a New Game+ mode is the ability to replay missions with your then-current skill/upgrade setup.

TL;DR: I liked it.

Alright.

Cherry Tree High Comedy Club isn't about dating, but friendship. You play a girl who recruits other girls as friends and comrades for her school club so it won't get closed down. You can decide what are you doing every day, working, doing homework or go to different locations to make friends. Very short, but fun.
In Roommates you can both a girl and a boy and romance different people.
Narcissu is very good too. No sim, just a novel. The description text speaks better for the game than I ever could.

This is the story
of a girl whose heart was standing still
and a boy whose breath was being stolen away,
both of whom die.

I want Sleeping Dogs DE, but my gut says that it can go a few bucks lower by year's end (probably not on Steam itself, but on another site). Though now I'm regretting passing up the chance to get it and the story DLC for ~$7 during the summer sale.
