Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Haven't played a Smash game at length in well over a decade and playing Ganondorf in this is rough. Needing some time to get used to how inputs work again makes for a slow learning process and I'm also feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing people, so hopefully that'll improve in due time unless Ganondorf's grab range simply happens to be that short. Facing level 9 CPU's will be an uphill battle too seeing how I'm already struggling against level 6 - 7 A.I.'s at times with how fast (comparatively speaking) they can punish. Guess I'll mix it up and try out various characters that seem interesting to me, because Ganondorf feels like someone you can do well with only after you have a solid grasp on fundamentals.

So it looks like 2 stocks is gonna be the standard in tourneys for this game. I like 3 stocks better.

I don't think there's a universal rule set yet for stocks. It's all TO-based. Good arguments for both sides (2-stocks eliminates the potential for comebacks/making up for accidental SDs, 3-stocks might take too long) but nothing solid. I think people will zero in on it after Apex.

I might be off base here but I play dorf the most and always go for his side B over an actual grab.

He is really damn slow though. It feels extremely difficult to approach a lot of the cast.

Any Samus players able to give me some tips on how to play her effectively?

I'm not great.

However, certain tactics carry over from other games - charge up most of the way (but not fully) so your opponent forgets you have it. If they know, fuck with their timing - use missiles before you unleash the charge shot.

Zair is good for spacing. Bombs are good for changing your aerial momentum. Your uair is glorious for combos. Dash attack to uair is a pretty standard combo. You can potentially surprise them by mixing in a screw attack at high percents. Fair chases offstage well.

Dash grab instead of standing grab - it has less lag. Utilt is a great move, dtilt is good for starting combos.

Uh... That's about all I've got.

I will need a translator for this stuff but thank you! Will get the amiibo tomorrow as for her.

Game is utterly stunning.

It saddens me that Magicant is not in the Wii U version. That said, I really do like a lot of the new stages. Gamer is awesome, Kalos Pokemon League is gorgeous. Wrecking Crew is interesting. Great Cave Offensive is really something else too.

Is there a way to change your control scheme and have it as a default? It's so annoying having to change it every match. 3DS version does it perfectly.

That's because it is. The character is just terrible, they didn't give him anything to make up for his extremely exploitable weaknesses. They took away his autocancel Nair from Brawl (or rather this might be more of a byproduct of the slightly less floatier physics, but you know what I mean), which was like his... only thing he had for neutral and then his Side B techchasing was nerfed slightly because you can actually techroll away from Side B -- follow-ups aren't guaranteed if the opponent knows that stuff.

He has nothing going for him short of an absurdly strong Fsmash, Ftilt, and Usmash but... those aren't going to get him far at all without any good options in neutral. I mean, I guess he has Bair but that's his only quick aerial to KO with so I'm not sure if you'd want to use that in neutral. Uair's OK too but only if they're coming from above you.

Then let's not forget the insane amount of projectile characters in this game that can just zone Ganondorf out completely (Duck Hunt, Robin, etc). At least Falco's keepaway was nerfed... I guess...

This, outside of my own lack of skill at the game, has been the only blemish for me so far. I wouldn't even mind having to select it at the beginning of a session if it didn't immediately forget it any time you go to change modes. Going from regular Smash matches to any of the side-modes means re-selecting your name every time, and there have already been more occasions than I'd care to count where I forgot this and had to reset things.

Still feeling out some of the cast to figure out who I should and shouldn't try to develop going forward, so far Villager and Bowser Jr/Larry seem to be my most natural fits. I find this odd, considering that zoning and lots of projectile harass never seem to be my preferred style in any other fighting game.

Wow just entered a team match in For Glory and there were 3 villagers including me. Needless to say, the match ended under a minute because of the 1Hit KO Pocket Timbers! LOL

Make a profile. Change the controls on that profile and save it. Now its forever set as lonf as you choose the profile

Its exactly like Brawl

Serious question guys...

Is it possible to get the community together and send sakurai a thank you for this game? Its seriously amazing, the guy worked so hard on it... This might be the first time I'd like to personally thank a director and team for a game.

Yeah, I know deep down he sucks horribly. ;_;

I love playing For Glory and having people just swap out to projectile characters after you beat them, and doing nothing but lobbing shit from one side of the stage then running across and doing it again. Something that you can predict and see coming a mile away yet actually struggle to fight against because you're too damn slow to keep up. The only "fast" approach is wizard kick which might as well blow up and kill you if they block it to save them the trouble.

can we get default control schemes and a way to play with friends in for glory team battle first? Also bring back fountain of dreams.

Default control schemes? What do you mean? I agree with Fountain of Dreams... saddened as Sakurai Created Kirby.

Friends in for glory? Why not just do friend matches? Most team matches are a lag fest anyway well with regard to random matchmaking.

I contributed to the Iwata get well card and I would do the same for this.

I like that For Fun matches are actually playable this time around, they make a nice refreshing change after For Glory has drained the life out of me regardless of how successful or unsuccessful my stint there has been.

Not saying anything here that hasn't been said many many times before but one thing that sticks out to me more than ever jumping across both modes is that Omega stages could really use a few with some platforms, I'd appreciate some alternative options when hauling my often slow character's arses over projectile barrages.

You have to select your profile every time you enter a new mode. It's annoying.

And not all matches are lag fests, and it would be very nice to have the option to go into 2v2 for glory with an online friend. These are my only real problem with the game.

It's tied between falcon and peach's fair over which one releases the most dopamine when I connect said attack. They're both so satisfying to hit with.

I finished all events and their special requirements today! Yay! The hardest was the Ganondorf mission where you fight against 3 opponents and have to KO all 3 in 45 seconds. Goddamn Palutena does nothing but run away once she shows up.

the aura mastery event is haaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrddddddd
Get both characters to one a side and spam side B. When they get to around 120%, go for ftilts or smash attacks. Took me a dozen tries, but there's relatively little skill involved here.

This is Brawl, but... GAF, what glory am I watching?!

Er, are you saying your matches aren't normally like this? Time to level up.
