Can anyone tell me what editions of the movies exist on these dvds/blu-rays? Does it have ghost Hayden Christensen at the end of jedi?

Yes, these are the garbage special editions. Based on the 2004 DVDs with some more shit added.

Untouched OT coming to BRD is inevitable. If they time it for Force Awakens, or the 40th Anniversary, or 2020 when the rights revert, who knows.

Until then..... Harry's Despecialized Edition is the right choice for you and your loved ones.

I bought a Laserdisc player just to have the best possible version of the pre-SE versions. Not getting rid of it until there's a BD release.

But have they actually said this?
No.
If true, they'll have my money. Perfect Christmas gift for myself.

I just want to be able to ignore the first 3 episodes at this point. Attack of the Clones especially.
I wonder if not really using the number is part of this.

The BRD release could drop the numbers. Just the subtitles, allowing the older fans to ignore the sins committed between the original ones and Abrams' crowning.

Imagine a box set IV-IX properly done.

I'd love it even more if they referred to them all by subtitle and dropped the episode #'s

Most of this is nitpicking. There is an autopilot for docking but the docking maneuver that Coop did was in no way standard procedure. And it is established that having an AI personality was very important with integration with real people. And I'm not sure why you think TARS wasn't able to show maps. My point was that it makes no sense to criticize the bios and assume it should have a fancy interface.

Anyway, this is derailing the thread.

The droid in the trailer is pretty silly looking but it fits the Star Wars universe. We can probably agree on that.

I'd like that actually. Package the originals in classic movie poster style boxes with their original titles.

And then have a I-VI boxset with unified branding, SE changes, and prequels.

Would be a good way to differentiate the appeal of each. The classic 80s film trilogy vs. the shiny (and controversial) complete Star Wars Saga.

Have we already talked about how this will
probably
be the first Star Wars since the original not to feature Yoda? Not even sure how I feel about that.

The teaser had me incredibly hyped. Can't wait until Battlefront comes out probably in November as well, though not sure how easy it'll be to avoid any TFA content in the game.

But have they actually said this?

No, but there's no way Fox or Disney leaves that money on the table.

Fox has distribution to all 6 through 2020, and Star Wars (1977) in perpetuity. But they can't distribute without Disney's agreement. And Disney can't distribute without Fox handling it.

It's a question of negotiation. Disney's known to be restoring the original trilogy to 4k, if they're not already done doing that. But in order to screen or sell that restoration, they gotta deal w/ Fox first.

It'll happen. Probably before next Christmas, I'd imagine. But the money issue has to be resolved first.

The Laserdisc master is what's included as an extra on the 2nd disc of the 2-disc DVD re-releases of the Original Trilogy back in 2006. It's still letterboxed 4x3, but that is, as of today, the best official means of seeing the original versions of those movies.

The best unofficial means is the Despecialized Edition.

Problem is I have no idea where to go to get it without being worried about getting a bunch of malware and viruses
Who are you... My grandmother in 2003?

It's safe to grab a torrent of something like that, maintained by geeks for geeks. It's about as risky as downloading the latest Linux distro.

I don't even mind some special edition changes like the ending theme and proper emperor hologram and honestly, I wouldn't even have noticed many of them without the internet. But all these cheap CGI creatures running through the screen, especially in 4 and 6, are pathetic. I remember buying the DVDs in 2004, without knowing anything about the changes and then not being able to comprehend what was happening when all this new shit came to the screen, while I was watching it the first time (many years after seeing the originals the last time). I was like wtf is going, this can't be right lol - who could have ever thought any of that crap looked good?

That's how I'd want it handled, personally.

Force Awakens needs to be the film for everyone. The fifty year old who saw his childhood reduced to ash by the prequels, the twenty something that loved the prequels, and the children watching the current CG cartoons.

A peace offering in the form of the number free OT boxset would be excellent for that first group.

You know what? At this point I am very tired of Yoda. We know his shtick... He talks in Subject Object Verb, looks concerned, and dispenses pseudo-philosophical wisdom. Great character once but it's okay to let him live on in our memories.

I just don't know anything about torrents at all so its all kind of overwhelming. I heard you need a browser extension or something...?

Boba Fett's just some guy though. The fanbase elevated him to be something that he's not.

That's not true, though. Boba Fett first appeared in the Star Wars holiday special and was a central character. He was played but by Lucasfilm as the next major villain after Darth Vader. There was even a viral marketing campaign to hype up his image long before The Empire Strikes Back came out.

But have they actually said this?

I seem to recall one of the Disney executives, or spokesperson, saying it was not off the table back when Lucasarts was bought?

But as others have said, Disney likes money. It's just a matter of time now that salty Lucas is out of the picture.

You just need a program like uTorrent.

I can't help you with it here. GAF is against movie sharing - and rightfully so because that means piracy. But these are serving an un-met need for the original experience in HD, so I'd consider it morally acceptable (as long as you buy the real thing once it appears on the market).

Hell even the screenwriter of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movie, Gary Whitta, was a huge supporter of Harmy's edition here on GAF... Though he's had to delete all his posts since he got the gig ;)

So how do people feel about the logo? As the logo of the seventh episode of the saga it feels a bit plain IMO. But since it's been so long since the last Star Wars film, I don't mind that it's going for a very classic, almost reboot-ish look. I do hope VIII and IX have more specific logos and not variations of this one though.

The initial trailer left me moderately hyped until I saw the impractical, non functional and dumb as shit light saber design. It's like some kind of ridiculous fan service to anime fans or some nonsense.

Then I watched the international trailer and SO MANY EMOTIONS!
I am sorry but you either have to be blind and deaf or just plain stupid to fall for thst cheesy fake trailer especially after the real thing came out.

GAF rule on piracy is fine, but something like that is kind of different. Anyone that cares enough to hunt that film down is going to be preordering the real thing the second they can anyway. It's not copyright infringement for the sake of saving money.

*tilts glasses*

Actually, Star Wars is space fantasy and NOT science fiction. And I resent your characterization of science fiction not making sense.

Fantasy is the fiction of the impossible.

Science fiction is the fiction of taking what could be possible and extrapolating it to its extreme in many cases.

This man knows what's up.

Also, something just struck me. if EU is no longer Canon, does this mean Boba Fett is dead?

I thought his first appearance was in the first movie.

I would be all for Boba reappearing if Episode II didn't happen: the whole kid Boba thing..... It's just so lame. 13 years later I still almost can't believe it happened.

Let's just leave the character be. The only thing I would maybe want is a Man With No Name spaghetti western style spinoff.

Yep those will sell like fucking hotcakes. Elitists of the RAW! ORIGINAL! versions will make such a positive uproar that even people who don't give a fuck about the additions will be like damn I guess I should buy that.

I still haven't bought any of the Blurays because I've been expecting either more and better sets on down the line. Just felt like it would be a premature purchase. When Disney bought the license I was doubly reaffirmed of my decision.

How can you say that for sure? His supposed "death" in ROTJ wasn't on screen and blatant. If they choose to bring him back, they will.
He'd be a 70+ year old bounty hunter and we have had so many spoilers so far. Not one about Boba Fett. If he was in it I really think we'd hear a spoiler leak by now
