It probably makes as much sense as Rian Johnson making a Star Wars movie.

But that ACTUALLY makes sense

and what I mean is, you seen him do a movie where he might be capable of having a good take on a space epic.

I have not seen anything from edgar wright that would make me think "he should direct star wars"

it's the only option until Disney graces us with a proper re-release

My Despecialized Edition Blu Rays say otherwise. ;) They are fantastic and I always use them for showing folks Star Wars for the first time. The feel is so much more consistent in those original versions.

Just please be better than Attack of the Clones. Please.

That's the worst one, so I don't think you have much to worry about. I really enjoyed it and like a lot of things about it but it's the least consistent and most problematic one. I probably like it more than Menace though just because I liked what actually happened in it more, but if I'm being critically honest Clones is the worst episode next to Return of the Jedi.

If you don't agree with my feelings about Jedi, I understand. One guy's opinion and all. I just think apart from the terrific third act that it's my second or third least favorite.

Not even taking EU into consideration, it's explained that those swallowed by the Sarlaac are "digested over 1,000 years". Being swallowed never sounded like instant death.
In the context of the situation it's hardly ambiguous he's done for. Not to mention the barge exploding right on top of the Sarlaac.

Good attitude to have. Setting the bar low always means that you won't be let down. In that way, the prequels might help these films quite a bit. We've seen the worst, it can only be up hill from here.

How though? He's done sci-fi, but it was Rian Johnson weird small scale film noir sci-fi. He's never done any kind of traditional action, he's certainly never done a "big" movie, he's never done any kind of big adventure stuff.

He's an endlessly interesting choice because he's talented and has a unique, identifiable style and voice. But it doesn't make sense as a choice for Star Wars. It's an inspired, out of left field choice.

Abrams makes absolute sense. Star Trek 2009 was like the perfect audition. Johnson has nothing like that in his filmography.

Wright has actually done larger movies, he's shown he is capable of juggling character and story with incredibly stylish, varied, blockbuster level action scenes. Arguably Wright makes more sense as a choice than Johnson, but Johnson makes a more interesting choice.

Does this mean that there is a grand total of two black guys in the galaxy now? Is Billy D going to be in this film?

He's done sci fi and the scope of it was actually pretty good. just cause the content was "weird noir" doesn't change the fact he has done sci fi.

you say Wright has actually done larger movies. Name one movie that makes you say "wow, he should do star wars"

you can't. What larger movies are you talking about? what?

no, Wright doesn't make sense. Wright is the last person that comes to mind when thinking of Star wars. Just like my favorite director Quentin tarantino. Their fantastic directors, but I don't see them or wish they directed star wars. just doesnt make sense.

I've never been a big SW fan but I finally sat down and fully watched the OT (I've seen them a few times but I was young or uninterested) and now I'm really excited for this. Also, that show of the Millenium Falcon gets me dizzy, but its great.

Did you forget about Captain Panaka in the prequels?? Did you??

yes, you probably did. Who wouldn't.

I hope this movie isnt all about Fan Service. TBH I was great until i saw the Millennium Falcon...then i got worried. Worried about it would be too much "Hey guys you remember this thing from the OT!?". I just hope not too much fan service and focus on new story. This was the reason why i hated Skyfall so much.

Teaser is getting people to watch the past movies. That's fucking awesome.

Dude, Looper is this relatively tiny, small scale movie about like 3 characters, where half of it takes place on a farm. It's a great fucking movie, but it's not even an action/adventure movie.

Hot Fuzz is a crazy, over the top action fest. Scott Pilgrim is a crazy, over the top action fest. The World's End is a crazy, over the top sci-fi action fest. They are much "bigger" movies than Looper and at least point to some touchstones in common with Star Wars as films (juggling character and heart with big action beats, etc).

If Looper is enough justification for Star Wars, surely Wright's filmography is just as much if not more.

I'm not even saying I wish he is directing or that Johnson shouldn't be. I'm merely disagreeing with the statement that Wright makes no sense. He at least makes a little sense.

Is there a wallpaper sized version of the X-Wing scene available anywhere? I got the Falcon shot from here yesterday but haven't found a big enough X-Wing one.

Meanwhile people have criticized this trailer for not showing enough of the original cast. The trailer focuses almost entirely on new characters and other new elements.

But I don't want it to be too fanservicey either. I don't want the Star Trek 2009 approach.

Star wars is not crazy over the top action fest.

Second, Looper is a small scale story in a large scale world. That is fairly Evident. It went through fucking Time as well in the movie. it was a large scale movie with a small scale story.

No, I disagree with your disagreement. I never seen a wright movie that made me think Star wars.

Hell, the way you make it sound, Uwe Boll makes sense directing star wars. Since everyone makes a little sense by twisting around their movies to your point of view

This is how I suspect that a lot of younger people feel about Star Wars. The prequels are the things that represented SW in the mainstream over the last 1.5 decades, and they were kinda lame. And even if you knew that the OT was revered as much better, the enthusiasm just wasn't there to get all excited and give them a proper, respectful watch..... Until now.

Wright is good but too cynical for something like Star Wars. By that I just mean that he's into dark, adult humor. That being said who knows how it'd turn out.

he also does that signature thing he does where he takes multiple clips and slaps them together real quick to give you information quickly like...someone just leaving the house or something...

that shit would look weird in a star wars movie.
