Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

It might not. Depending on who this figure in black is, it's possible some of that old shit could be brought back up. I don't think little prequel references are out of bounds at all. I mean, there's old podracers in the background of the balldroid shot from the teaser.

Easy to forget that there's a whole generation (or even two; how long's a generation anyway?) of Star Wars fans raised on the prequel era. I'd be pretty surprised if VII or any of the other movies completely ignored the PT.

Not that I think there will be any story threads continued on from the prequels as in Clone Wars and (I assume) Rebels, but a few nods here and there should be expected imo.

there is the movie, attack of the clones.
then there are 2 series.
clone wars and the clone ware.

which of those is considered canon?
why isn't the other?

The 2D Clone Wars series by Genndy Tartakovsky isn't canon. The 3D Clone Wars series is. Because that's how Lucas wants it; the latter is the one he prefers and it's the one he had creative input on it.

but it was.
I really hope no one will talk about that again.

the pt maybe canon, but tha doesn't mean, the new films have to mention stuff from it.

and I'm always confused about all the clone wars stuff.

btw.: for me, everything for anh never happed.
this includes the pt and the clone wars series.

That's fine. You're using willful ignorance to help yourself enjoy something. I don't see much wrong with that since once the OT is released on BRD I'll pick it up and never pick up the prequels bc I just don't like them as movies.

The scene where the Sand People are about to take Luke at the start of A New Hope and R2D2 is hiding behind some rocks. In the special edition they added more rock to hide him more.

How would he even get in there

It's because of edits like that and the Vader "Nooooooo" at the end of RotJ that make me not like watching the Blu-rays.

Because I'd love for that not to be ignored just because people thought it was dumb.

It was dumb because of;

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."

Space ships and rocks don't have symbiotic microbes.

*shrug* ...they do now.

Man watching live reaction videos on youtube are awesome. So many people crying or going absolutely crazy watching it for the first time.

I thought most fans were cynical dead husks reading this forum but it has re-vitalized my view of the fans :)

Here are a couple:

Hahaha that dude in the first video is awesome, Chewie sound cracked me up

Also I don't get why people keep saying things like "lol star wars is fantasy so don't expect things to not be dumb". That's fucking stupid, a story with fantastical or sci-fi elements should still be internally consistent and characters should be expected to act rationally unless otherwise written. As for the lightsabre in the teaser, who knows, there are plenty of example of weapons with purely ornamental features. Maybe it's just supposed to look cool.

Isn't each Jedi supposed to craft and design their own custom lightsaber? Maybe this dude just has a flair for theatrics!

I dream of a day where I can own a Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition - Non-Stupid Edition. I like some of the additional footage and usage of CGI, or cleaned up special effects shots. I love the expended shots of the cities. I love the more dynamic angles they could do with the flying sequences. I love the snow speeder are washed out and blurry. What I don't want are the stupid changes like the dance number in Jabba's Palace, Han shot first, or the annoying in your face creatures that walk by in Mos Eisley.

I wonder if this fantasy version will ever be made.

This. This would be the ideal! Why can't it be done? Just a... remaster of sorts for the originals.

I want them all on blu-ray, the original VHS versions which had changes in place already I believe and Special Edition's hold a place in my heart.

I just don't get the Star Wars popularity.

You would think after three shit movies in a row the fandom would be dead.
Want to know something shocking?

A lot of people liked the prequels and a lot of people's introduction to the series was the prequels.

People still buy Sonic games.

A lot of people don't care about the quality of what they consume, they just want to be a consumer. It's more important for them to be a "Star Wars" fan than it is for them to look at what they watch and enjoy critically.

Removing Hayden Christiansen would almost be enough for me already, although all the CGI creatures on the desert planet might be the worst offender right after that.

There are many people who enjoy the prequels because they think they are, you know, enjoyable. Can we knock it off with this weird attitude that OT purists have that prequel fans are drooling morons?

Fuck the prequels, Disney have abolished Lucas' hack ass and given it to competent people. There's no reason to write off this film because the prequels aren't good.

If the first 3 films were anything less than spectacular and groundbreaking, you'd be right to think so.

Execpt they weren't all spectacular. Are we forgetting how much of Return of the Jedi was ruined by Ewoks.

I'm not writing off this film. But I just don't get where the hype is coming from.

Kinda speaks to just how popular it is that three shit movies didn't even faze the franchise. People are still just as excited to see this as they were for Phantom Menace.

Or, y'know, it's possible to like an IP despite there being a few duds? The prequels existing doesn't mean the OT never happened. :S

It's the biggest movie franchise of all time. What were you expecting? Not even Marvel can come close to then fanbase of the 'Wars.

Will the Special Edition edits still be considered canon once the original unaltered trilogy eventually gets re-released? Are the Special Edition edits even considered canon now?

It's because of confusing stuff like this that we should simply toss the Special Editions -- along with their sibling prequels -- into an alternate universe, and I'm glad we all seem to agree. :-)

I'm not an OT purist at all. Everyone's free to like whatever they want.

But if your only reason for liking three overwhelmingly shitty movies is because they take place in the same fictional universe as three other movies you like because you saw them when you were ten, you might want to reevaluate your standards.

The blu-ray versions are canon (special edition++ basically) unless Disney later on says something else. Even then I don't think they'll bother to go back and say "oh hey guys, this one's the real canon!" instead of just selling both the "canon" versions and "original" versions.

Just look at Star Trek's Original Series Blu-Ray release. By all comparisons, it's a "special" edition. Difference is that they went in to update things, not to change things.

And the changes were met with almost universally positive reactions from fans. People who didn't like it didn't feel the need to bash it, since the Blu-Rays also included the original versions.

Also didn't they declare that all the expanded universe stuff has been thrown out and is now non-canon? Ie the stuff people really liked?
Star Wars seems like it is a freaking mess right now.

The stuff people liked? Almost nobody read the novels compared to those who watched the movies and tv shows which is what remained canon. The audience for tie in novels was such a tiny niche. The canon is WAAAAY less confusing than it used to be. Far less of a mess.

Surprised one of the biggest multi-media franchises of all time, dating back to the 70's gets hype?

Star Wars made $27,000,000,000 in revenue.Count them zeros.

And who exactly are these people? This is really just a strawman. Most prequel fans enjoy it because of the plot, the art and character design, the music, etc. and are willing to admit its faults.

All Disney did was say that "anything George Lucas didn't make is now non-canon" and that anything going forward after their acquisition was canon.

So therefore, the 6 movies and Clone Wars show are canon, everything else is not. Anything Disney produced is canon. How is this a mess? If anything, Star Wars was a huge mess BEFORE Disney bought it, with the multiple canon tiers and all the garbage the EU was spewing.
