Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Any tips on how to make tilt attacks come out more consistently? I don't know whether the analog stick on the Wii U Pro Controller is too sensitive or if it's merely me having sloppy execution, but too often do I perform a smash or dash attack instead which naturally leaves me wide open for punishment. Accurately positioning myself when under pressure is also a little problematic; sudden dashes when I mean to quickly turn around in place for example, which means I can't quite jump in the opposite direction on a whim yet for a quick B-air. I'd like to be doing it from a standstill with the characters I use rather than taking advantage of buffering it through other attack animations, so I feel like I might be missing an easy trick.

Some people use the C-stick for Tilts. It's a new setting I think. Will probably use it myself once the game arrives. Obviously you lose your Smash attacks on C-Stick then but it seems like a good trade.

So I decided to semi-farm CDs by turning only Master Balls on with high appearance rates, then I set up an infinite time battle............................but you can only end that by quitting, and then you don't get any items from it. :(
Don't know if that's the quickest method anyway, but yeah, probably should go with, like, stock with your "opponent" as an unused extra controller.

Wait, you can do that??? I didn't see that in the list. Is it the attack option?

Man, I'm loving this game so far.
Surprisingly I've been playing Smash Tour most of the time. The first time I didn't really like it as it seemed to chaotic but it's really grown on me.

I just make it a point not to push it all the way to the gate. If you pull the stick about halfway, it should tilt every time.

The buffering thing you mentioned help sometimes too, but shouldn't be necessary.

Helps if you do 4 player local coop so that you can better ensure that the same player that lost the stats gets them back.
At the time I didn't have any friends around to coordinate unlocks so I had to figure it out by myself.
Like I said then, I was really lucky because a CPU was about to grab the Metroid but a trap hidden prevented it from happening.

I just have the boss and metroid challenges left for Smash Tour. How rare are those? I did just 3 20 rounds and I only saw one Metroid (misremembered and killed it after it grabbed stats from someone else) and no bosses.

How do I Olimar pls?

Constant switch up of side-B and side smash. Make em think, is this Pikmin gonna hit me, or latch on to me? Keep them away with endless Pikmin pressure, including grabs when you have a Pikmin that'll run a little longer than the others.

When returning from the edge, throw all your Pikmin at the guy before using your up-B. You'll fly farther and faster, and give him something to worry about while you recover.

Up and down smashes are also solid, with good range.

Always have 3 Pikmin out. If one dies, pull another one as soon as you can safely do so. Don't forget to use your down-B to regroup the Pikmin if they're scattered around, and you need them for moves.

I haven't even touched Smash Tour. I've still yet to try a lot of the modes.

Event, Classic, and Master Orders have kept me busy so far.

The game is great though. The 1080p and 60FPS are immediately noticeable. The game looks clean and plays like butter. Then there's the soundtrack which is full of goodness. I've sat at the menu screen listening the main theme on repeat for several minutes at a time. So good.

In terms of content, I couldn't ask for much more. Plenty to do and lots of franchise representation. The roster size and variety are mind boggling.

Smash Wii U, if we're looking at it from ALL angles, is easily the definitive Smash Bros. experience. It's just pure Nintendo love and joy from the second you turn the game on.

I was like... "Man, I don't need to pre-order this bundle or adapters, I'll just pick it up wherever".

Now... I want to just go to Amazon and select "ship when in stock"... the option is gone.

GODDAMMIT WORLD. I DIDN'T KNOW THE WII U WAS BLOWING UP LIKE THAT.

Or those modules are severely understocked.

Did you not have 4 controllers where you could play all 4 by yourself?

I finally picked this up today since Best Buy has a B1G1 40% off thing.

How is it with the Wii U gamepad? Do I need to buy a pro controller?

I'm also dreading having to unlock all of the characters again... already trudged through that on the 3DS.

That was my thought too. I tried to pre order, was told they were already out, and shrugged it off. Almost paid eBay markup, but several days after launch I was lucky enough to catch Wal Mart briefly restocking it on their website.

All unlocked characters and custom moves are carried over.

Amiibo might be the best way to get custom moves. They bring me several new ones at the end of each play session. They're also a good way to make money.

What are you "betting" on the spectate mode? Are you betting on people's For Fun or For Glory matches... or both?

.. Can you use custom characters online? Only in With Friends matches?

Yeah, I checked Walmart and they aren't even offering the modules/bundle online anymore. They have some bootleg amiibo bundle instead. Bah.

Is those rewards being character specific custom move or random?
They're random, and you can still get duplicates. But I have eight amiibo, and if I have them all play together for a half-hour, they usually EACH bring me two or three custom moves, and often those moves are new. They also bring you lots of trophies and coins (500-1,200G after several matches).

To claim your goodies, you need to go back to the Amiibo screen and scan each one in again. They'll then give you all of the presents they're holding from the recent fights. I believe they hand over any goodies dropped by Mew, etc., as well, since I saw them pick up trophies during a match and I believe I got those trophies when I went to claim their gifts.

EDIT: Another gem from Miiverse user Rabbid:

Actually, for me it is easy to do smash attacks, but difficult to do tilt attacks. So I find it better.

The shortcut was in brawl, but was flawed. Sometimes it jumped, and if you wanted to do back tilt, it did jab instead.

But I liked that now, you must push the main stick more to register as a smash. But I think it could be fantastic if you could customize hoy far you must pull the stick to make a smash.

It might help to watch this thread. Probably a long shot at this point though, and it looks like a pretty dead thread now.

I'd expect the adapters to get restocked though, so maybe it'll at least be possible to get the items separate.

1. It's a random selection from For Fun and For Glory, 1v1, FFA, teams, all of 'em.

2. Only with friends, yep.

I actually tried out carefully pushing the analog stick in Training Mode and I still got the occasional Smash, even when going out of my way to not touch the gate. Bit of a moot point now though, because:

This actually solved my problem.

Configuring "Attack" on the second analog stick, yes. Very helpful tweak for me now that it was brought up.

New doubles strategy: Rest with Puff at high percents, if you hit you get a kill or 40% damage. If you miss, have your partner next to you charging a Smash attack for when the opponent inevitably rushes at you.

The success rate is phenomenal.

The guy who was posting all those booty shots to Miiverse, Rabbid, had one of them deleted. I think it was deleted all along. I wonder what he posted that was risque enough to be taken down when all the other booty shots were deemed OK.

you go back to brawl before they crippled him

He felt awful on the 3DS but after foolin around with him some more and using him on Wii U, I'm doin just as good with him as I was in Brawl. Losing the two Pikmin doesn't really matter in the end, and while I occasionally miss his old up-B for attacking, his new one is a billion times better for actual recovery.

Ah, sorry. I guess I'm offsetting the timing without realizing or something. Glad you found a fix though!

Nah, best way to get customs is through Crazy Orders. Play as the character you want to get customs for, and get 15+ turns each round. Usually get 4-5 customs for that specific character and another 4-5 customs for others. I got all of Ness's stuff within 45 minutes for instance. Granted, gotta do this character by character, but since you also acquire other customs along the way, it all quickly gathers.

Love Ness in this game. Just love him. Won a local tourney with him. His f-air is such a good approach, and I love the short hop double n-air pressure. Not pleased much with the impracticality of using PK Flash still, but his other specials are more useful in this iteration all-around. PK Fire is great for spacing and edgeguarding in particular. Love that he was given Lucas's PK Thunder for the purpose of avoiding gimps.

Need to find a secondary and tertiary character now. Can't rely on Ness alone to continue the tournament wins. Anyone have a good idea of who Ness's best counters are, and which characters are best counters to those characters? I'm pretty comfortable playing everyone on the roster, except for Rosalina.

haven't try the "attack" command with the C-stick, I don't have trouble with getting tilts, but if this makes it even easier I'll go for it, I'll try it out to see how it feels like
