I disagree. Cute can be someone very beautiful, but who doesn't instantly bring up thoughts of sex. It's more of "aww" like that. Like seeing an adorable puppy, but in the form of a girl.

I actually think they're legal. There's some part of fair use or something that protects fan edits, so long as you only give them to people who legitimately own the actual product (i.e. the official blu-ray). And the actual people involved with the Despecialized Edition are scrupulous about only distributing it to people who prove they own the blu-ray.

While I love the Colbert skit and understand that it's primarily comedy, I don't think it solves anything.
Sure that would work but designing something to be intentionally damaged would be strange. If it ever actually acted as a guard then the metal there would be burned and gone.
Yeah the wielder would be safe, but their saber would now look like shit. It's bad design.
And I think it's safe to assume that the saber isn't made of lightsaber resistant materials because 1. Previous sabers were not made of it, and 2. Why have the mini-sabers at all when you could just use the saber-resistant metal as the entire guard instead?
In the end I think the answer is "because it's neat" and we arent really meant to get into it more deeply than that. I did read that it came from the art department rather than the script.

The lightsaber blade is actually a loop of plasma or something right? So if this one is really powerful (or just unstable from an amateur constructing it) it may need to vent excess energy somehow.
Would kind of explain the delayed pop out, energy builds in the loop then has to vent.
Or some artist just thought it looked cool.

The point, I think is that a circular object is more structurally sturdy than a semicircular one (thus, the hand guard all the way around the cross guard). Also, "looks like shit while damaged" is alllllllll the way down the list of weapon design priorities
. It's a well built piece of kit, especially if they're introducing a more realistic fighting style. Agreed on the resistant materials bit.

And the black stormtrooper can be explained as being a civilian trooper or someone who has stolen the suit for a disguise (hence why he is on the run). Any other complaints are just bigots and you shouldnt cater for them.

Except they aren't going to do that. Him being a stormtrooper is vital to the plot of the movie.
Racists are mad not because he is a stormtrooper but because he is the lead of the movie I'd say.
They better not change the saber

Watched the trailer for the fourth time. I'm sure it's been mentioned by others already, but I heard Chewie's growl at the end of the Falcon shot. Brought a smile to my face, since the now defunct EU had killed him off years ago.

what I mean is, there will be a totally valid reason for him to be wearing the stormtropper outfit and not looking like the bounty hunter clone.
The vast majority of people who will see the movie are not people who have read or watched anything other than the six films going before it.

They aren't going to explain it in the movie I guarantee you, it's a forgone conclusion stormtroopers aren't clones. They aren't clones in the original trilogy.

There are two sets of people that I have heard that are upset about him being as stormtrooper:
1. the racists who dont want a black man to be the lead - I say screw them, and dont cater for them
2. the people who have seen the prequels who think that all stormtroopers are clones of jango fett. An explaination will be given in the film to cater for these type of people's confusion.
There already is. Storm troopers are not clones. They were mostly civilians in the OT, and they surely are 30 years after that.
Trust me, it won't. They haven't been clones for close to 40 years by the time we get to The Force Awakens.

Ah, the days post Attack of the Clones where no one knew what the hell was going on with the clone/stormtrooper thing.There's one comic I picked up where Vader talks about how the Stormtroopers are mindless automatons and it's a plot point that they can be "programmed".
