Looking to gauge interest in GAF ranbats for this game. Each "season" would probably last 8 weeks. Your commitment would be 1 match per week. Just quote my post and say you are interested if you are. If a good number of people are interested, then I will try running one of these for the enjoyment of all.

I'm in if the other strong players are. :D

I haven't heard any positive news about the Gamecube adapters. Not saying they won't be back in stock soon/ever, but just that I haven't heard anything along the lines of a big shipment coming in anytime soon. I already have one, so it's not a big deal to me, but I've been keeping an eye out for friends/possibly a second for myself (I do have 8 GC controllers).

And the ethernet adapter? Just buy a third party. Not sure if it's the best or anything, but I bought this and it works perfectly fine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/?tag=neogaf0e-20 . I'm sure there are a number of other options out there that work as well.

Thanks! I hope Nintendo or 3rd parties provide a ssolution, as there is clearly demand. I don't want to have to buy 4 pro controllers.

Unpopular opinion time.

Got my GCN Controller today (finally) and just been taking it out for a spin. I honestly think I prefer the GamePad & Pro Controller. Control feels so much smoother through it.

Yeah it's kind of weird.
I got used to the Pro Controller and 3DS controls, it's a little weird re-adapting myself to the GCN controller.

Am I wasting my time playing with Samus? I never really played a ton of Smash, but this is the character I think looks the coolest. But if I actually get decent with the game I should probably be using someone else right? What tier is she?

I cannot recommend the Wii U Pro controller to anyone that plans to play the game seriously.

There's far too much sensitivity in the left analog stick, meaning a slight nudge will make your character run, also making it difficult to do non-tilt attacks.

What i do recommend: cube controller, Dualshock 2, remote + nunchuk

I tried playing Smash with a DS2 at a friend's house on Dolphin. Never again.

I tried it on a Cube through an adapter, I came to the same conclusion. It was not good. Would have improved moderately with button mapping, but I doubt that would have salvaged it.

I have a PS adapter as well for Gamecube, and i concur it was terrible for Melee (simulating the analog sensitivity for shields on the DS2's shoulder buttons was awful, and the Cube's bizarre button layout made the translation to DS2 weird without custom button settings).

It's absolutely perfect for Smash U though. Every button press works as it should. Some of you should try it out since PS adapters are dirt cheap.

Fair enough. That's interesting, I'll probably try it out and see how it feels. I suppose there's nothing stopping me from DS2->GC->Wii U and then configuring buttons.

yeah not sure why people need a gamecube controller so bad. i just modify the button config a bit and its perfect, annoying i cant default it but pro controller is so good

I believe it's just a preference melee players prefer. I've tried each of the controllers and still prefer the "feel" of the gc controller.

I've got mixed feelings on the trophies. I haven't played the game yet, but I decided to see what kind of trophies they had. I was really happy with the Punch-Out!! selection (every NES character got a trophy, Mr. Dream/Mike Tyson excluded), but EarthBound received no new trophies (every trophy it has in this game is of something that appeared in a Smash game). I wanted to see something neat out of EB's trophy selection, but alas, gotta have 80 trophies of Mario :v

Any decent tutorials for newcomers to the series that plan to get into the game in some depth at least? I 've read all kinds of terminology and what each technique is, but at the moment I would prefer a guide or a series of videos that take you by the hand and gradually explain most things around the game. E.g. I want to understand now how the combo system works in order to do a few things that I see in videos and for the time being I am totally clueless apparently..

I. COULD NOT. KILL. YOUR ZSS.

That was abysmal. Good work, Dood. I gotta run. Thanks for whooping me.
GG man, let duke it out again sometime soon. As for Link, my advice is to throw more junk out and get an opening to get clean tilts or smashes in. Don't go all in with your sword only when the opponents is weaken.

Yeah, really like how Nintendo included a bunch of indie IPs like Commander Video :)
Neither Style Savvy nor Dillon's Rolling Western are indie IPs like BIT.TRIP, they're first-party Nintendo IPs.

But speaking of which, have any other indie trophies been discovered aside from CommanderVideo? I haven't seen any in my game and I haven't really thought about that until just now. A Quote trophy would be awesome, but I doubt it exists.

I made a vid showing Falcon's Rapid Jab using the "slide" that I talked about earlier. You can do this with a decent amount of moves, but I'm too lazy to make a video showing all of them lol. Doing this with Kirby's D-tilt or Toon Link's F-Tilt makes them almost feel like dash attacks.

edit: You can also pivot the attacks during the slide.
