Anyone else bothered by the separation of indie games from the Game of the Year category? I mean, it's 2014 people.....games are games.....and the indies are better...

Also, they nominated Journey and Walking Dead in the main category in 2012. What the hell happened?
Geoff claimed that the indie games were eligible for GOTY, they just didn't get selected as nominees by the judges. I agree though, the indies this year far outshined most of the AAA releases in contention.

Which current nominees would you take out? And which indies would you put in?

Better than nothing. Indies will get the shaft most likely but anything that helps bring gaming to the forefront is good IMO.

The jury consists of games journalists from around the globe: http://thegameawards.com/jury-and-advisors/

Unless the pubs do it the FIFA way and bribe everyone I don't think whoever backs it will have an effect on how the jury votes. Also, there are dedicated "Best Independent Game", "Games For Change" and "Best Mobile/Handheld Game" categories which feature a bunch of indies: http://thegameawards.com/nominees/

Ethan Carter, This War Of Mine, Never Alone, Threes and Monument Valley plus the Telltale games are all nominated so I'm happy. Otherwise the nominees in GOTY category are a bit odd (Mordor, Hearthstone, really?) and I would've liked to see This War of Mine nominated as a GOTY but ya know, you can't please everyone.

Geoff claimed that the indie games were eligible for GOTY, they just didn't get selected as nominees by the judges. I agree though, the indies this year far outshined most of the AAA releases in contention.

So he's claiming that after the categories were determined, an insufficient number of judges must have selected *any* indie game for it to be in the top five. Therefore, they made a new category and had the judges nominate games for that category? That seems almost impossible to me.

Which current nominees would you take out? And which indies would you put in?

Well, I don't think there should be a 5 game limit to begin with. But I would take out Hearthstone at the very least. Broken Age: Act 1 shouldn't even be nominated in *any* category since it's half a game. I wouldn't even have a games for change category. This War of Mine should definitely be on the main list. I also find Bayonetta 2 a questionable choice (not saying it's a bad game).

So I was thinking, seeing as this one will be streamed on WiiU/PSN/Live/Steam how will they handle trailers of announcements for stuff that isn't available for said platform?

I mean, will WiiU stream the MGO segment and the Demon Souls remaster?
Will XBLive stream the trailer for Metroid Prime 4 and Star Fox: The Coming of Ages?

Seems unlikely to me, but I'm here to ask you guys

Do you think we will see the first Footage of the new Tomb Raider Game (Xbox One)

Maybe MS also want to show something from their portfolio due to Sonys Reveals and new Footages (The Order, Uncharted, Bloodborne, No Mans Sky)

My guess is since everyone is on board and everyone will have something to show, everything will be there.

Or they could replace them with generic console exclusive clips.

Not sure if I want this to be good or hilariously bad.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to shooting the shit with GAF tomorrow during the show.

Wow, I never heard of this until now. I think I'll watch it. From the OP, it seems this won't be the train wreck VGX was (although it was entertaining).

Should I expect new game and gameplay reveals from this?

Made a quick countdown timer because fuck timezones.

That's 3AM for us Euro people. 3 fucking AM.

It will still get streamed. The VGAs/VGX were on Xbox Live's media player during past years and still showed everything. The Twitch apps on consoles can't block competitor console content either.

Kinda. Off the top of my head, Metal Gear Online and more of No Man's Sky will be shown. I read that Geoff is promising 12 to 18 "world premieres", but that doesn't necessarily mean games that haven't been announced yet.

There's a pretty good rundown of the event as well as the following Playstation Experience event here:

So... Nintendo has a banner up for the show on their Wii U eShop. Simple promotion, or is something more happening?

inb4 Nintendo breaks the internet, reveals Metroid Prime 4, wins Best Fighter with Smash, Best Developer and GOTY with Bayonetta 2.

I Know Man, i Know :(
I Will not be Able to Watch it, i'll try later in the day.

IT'S FRIDAY

I'll just have to survive through a day in class, a "party" tonight that i don't want to go to but will just to pass time until 3AM (high chances that i'll watch this event drunk), and then we'll kick off the greatest videogame weekend ever.

Plan on watching this tonight with my TinyChat bros. Hopefully it's a vast improvement over the filth that was last year's VGAs.

There is no main host.

Show will supposedly have dozens of people who will introduce various segments, Geoff will be on the stage only few times.

I'd think we'll get some sort of Cranky Kong-level reveal.

Probably better for everyone if they don't say anything so that people don't get too hyped up that Reggie is going to play the new Zelda and reveal Metroid Prime 4.

I just really hope we do see a few big game announcements, instead of these smaller indie game announcements and trailers for already announced games.

Nothing against indies, but I do like to see the big new games.
