End of a fucking era.

Edit: I really don't like how it sounds like Mewtwo is the only DLC character :/

With Mewtwo, they'll have hit 50 characters in a Smash game regardless of if you count the different types of Miis separately or not. That's really damn impressive. I'd like to see DLC, and I think it's something he's really contemplating and something that Nintendo would definitely approve him doing. But I think he doesn't want people to expect it or anything.

Hell, I'd love it if we got DLC of just the cut characters. Make it a truly definitive last Smash game from him.

Aww, POTD is over. That was a fun ride.

So Brawl had the Dojo. Smash 4 had POTD. I expect Smash 5 to just have tweets about the game, daily.

You're thinking on much too small a scale.

Sakurai is already in the habit of recording demands for his staff, so why not just livestream the entire development process?

Farewell POTD. Sakurai really needs some rest, can't imagine he'd have to be there to supervise the Mewtwo DLC; surely his staff is competent enough to make it without him being there all day long.

That didn't ruin the whole meal for you?...

Anyway , GGs to you too vena.

Your Robin was one tough competitor

Naw. And I've barely played any Warios so I had no idea what his hitboxes were lol.

I need to fire up the CPU on some of these oddballs I've never faced.

Who did you use and what tips can you give?

Here's my build
zlCfzSuDzJQmCejYzg

If you can find the same equipement but with another negative effect, it will be better, the worse edge grabbing made me lose a few times. Speed is not that useful, you need to be careful not fast (and I didn't feel a huge difference in his jumping abilities).

I used Shulk, a character that interested me but didn't play often. However, there is a special raison I used him : monado arts. With my customized character I could take down the master beast with 3 smash in buster mode. Also his smash art his great for early kill. Shield art is pretty great too, especially against the master swords. I didn't use speed and jump art too much (and you should use jump art, the recovery iis way better, but again, I didn't use shulk too much). Counter is useless IMO, mindgaming a level 9 cpu is like mindgame someone who can read in your mind. Backslash can be useful but there are better options.

Besides his monado arts, his Fair and Nair are so awesome that even level 9 cpu can't shield them properly, and with a proper combination of shorthop aerial, grab and buster skill, I often dealed up to 100% in a few seconds. Utilt is also very good to deal damage, the range is insane ! For KO move, all the smash are good but the down smash is really the best, again, the range is ridiculously good.

If you don't want to use Shulk I have a few general tips :

- Avoid at all costs 4, 6 or 8 players fights (often unavoidable on the stage 3 and 5). It's a mess but the AI is also good than in a 1v1. And STRANGELY they target you (you will get sometimes 50% damage without even noticing). More than that, when I was on the respawn plateform and waiting the AI to fight against himself, they looked like less aggressive. Probably my imagination.

- Counter character are the most dangerous opponents (if you don't use shulk, avoid to pick a counter character, master copy is vicious). They can pull of a counter at the very last moment even in a 8 players mess, using ranged attacks or items are the best options against them.

- We all know team battle sucks but it can suck less if you choose the right partner (a heavyweight / powerful character), they are so dumb they hit like two times a minute, but they still hit harder. Besides you can use them as a human shield will you collect items or charging a smash attacks.

- It's probably obvious but USE ALL THE ITEMS, don't even think, use them, even if you don't want to use them, take them, throw them so the AI don't have to use them !!!! If this is a hammer be careful, sometimes it's better to let the AI get them, especially if you have counter ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) .

- The fight against the Mii is probably one of the hardest one if not the hardest. They are five, they are harder to lauch than you think and they build up damage quickly. Spamming smash is not the best solution sometimes since the AI with them is pretty strange. I recommand to camp close to the ledge so they can attack you only from above or one side. They can't use items so you can wait the right moment to get them. Even if it's difficult to get smash by them, once you are above 100%. The fight becomes way more difficult since you are ejected again and again. You can also use the same strategy from cruel mode (camping on the edge). But this is really risky and you can't restart like in cruel mode.

- Again pretty obvious but you should know perfectly the patterns of all the Master Core form, some of them are incredibly easy once you know of they act. Master forteress is probably the easiest one, the difficulty with "him" is that you know nothing Jon Snow. Actually I faced master forteress only one time for this challenge. The harder part is probably the master swords which have wide and fast attacks while difficult to reach, if you beat him you have done the hardest part (,ust make sure you don't have 200%).

I think that's all, if you want more details just tell me, I'm still not totally familiar with english so some things can be tricky to understand. Anyway, I hope it helps.

Damn, it really is the end of an era. Thank you Sakurai, you magnificent bastard, for all the ups and downs of the PotD hype train and this wonderful, awesome, definitive new Smash game.

It's been an amazing ride, and we have a fantastic new Smash game to enjoy for years to show for it. :)

repostin:

Just got this game today, but I'm having a problem connecting to friends on WiiU. It keeps giving me error code 018-0515. I never have any problems with PS3 or PS4 connections but my WiiU is giving me problems.

Gonna miss PotD :'(

It feels like the end of a long journey. Full of mysteries, hope, conflict and interesting people on the way. It was less spectacular then Brawl's PotD (the threads were TOO BIG for NeoGaf to handle), but it hyped the game to a level, the product could never fulfill. So tuning it down for SSB4's was the right decision. Nonetheless PotDs are now part of the Smash legacy, somehow also part of the product and were a lot of fun.

See you next mission (properly in four years)!

Edit: I really don't like how it sounds like Mewtwo is the only DLC character :/

I'll be holding on to hope that Isaac is on the way...! It just seems to be far too much time to work on one character (of course it's possible to team is much smaller)

I don't know if it's reliable (might be a mistranslation) but the Portuguese version of Nintendo's site says that Mewtwo will be available later in a pack of ad-on contentS. Nor English, Spanish or German imply plural, either.

Yeah... I'm grasping at straws.

End of a fucking era.

It could actually be, that he is the only DLC character, but they will properly add more costumes, items and stages, since they don't interfere with the core gameplay.
Nonetheless it looks like Nintendo only works on DLC after the completion of a game and Mewtwo just didn't made it in time of the release. So Sakurai isn't lying, if he says, that they don't work on DLC at the moment.

RIP POTD

It's been a surprisingly large part of my life for the past year. Sort of sad to see it go. I was hoping it would end with some kind of mysterious lead-up to an upcoming update with new content, but I wasn't seriously expecting that anyway.
End of a fucking era.

He probably is. I realized while playing Smash Tour that Dixie is a Tour Item there, so she's probably not going to be playable. Ridley is already out.
So Spainkiller's list is one confirmed happening (Mewtwo), one probably not (Dixie), one definitely not (Ridley), and one unknown (Chorus Kids).
I wouldn't count on there being more than Mewtwo.

The online mode is pissing me off. Every second match is a lag fest and then game has the gall to punish you for disconnecting from the laggy piece of shit. Is the lag common for everyone else? Mk8 runs perfectly

Are there really only 24 event matches for Solo mode? I thought maybe if i cleared all the special requirements like beat it under a certain time or take no damage more would unlock...but thats it? Kinda disappointed. I know theres more in group mode but still.

There are 55 event matches, I think you did some event matches without unlocking a character.

Letting fans see a ton of content in a livestream early on in development that winds up having to get cut in the final product would go over well.

Has this been discussed already?

My Smash Wii U online experience has been great so far, if only laggy when other users have shitty connections, for obvious reasons. But the other day I wanted to play with friends, and it was me who was creating the match. However, even if I created it without problems, the "now recruiting!" yellow button never showed for two different friends, different times. They just found me "online".

When they created, however, I could see the "now recruiting!" button.

Did this happen to anyone else? Should I tweak some router stuff?

Thanks :)

To this day my son still cant host an online game with friends on his 3DS, I can just fine and my other kid can as well, so I doubt it has anything to do with your router.... actually I have no idea what I'm talking about lol.

Wow, I never realized how useful amiibo are for farming, well... everything until I just started putting them to work farming CDs for me.

I've got Paisano (Mario), Denver (Yoshi), My Boy! (Link), Kirbz (Kirby), and SpaceFurry (Fox) doing repeated 99-Stock matches with Master Balls set to high (for Mew, who drops CDs), and it's great. After one match they had gotten me:

- 9 CDs
- Around 7,000 Gold
- 4 Mii Fighter hats
- Around 10 custom specials
- A bunch of equipment

I'm probably nabbing a Pikachu amiibo tomorrow too, so I'll put it to work right quick as well. :3

Yep, I'll be doing this quite a bit to farm stuff easily when I'm doing work/other stuff. Really glad there's a fairly reliable way to farm CDs that doesn't involve Crazy Orders...

I would be okay if Mewtwo is only DLC character for reasons. There are many characters in the game so that would keep me busy. Also it took me more than two hours to play all characters against friends. Also Sakurai really need a break so his injury can get better.

Gonna miss PotD :'(

zlCfzSuDrlwyFRUVBo

Yeah, I'm going to miss POTD and POTDGAF. It was a huge wild ride ever since E3 2013. It was my pleasure to spend those fun times with y'all. :D

Also that would explain a lot about questionable pictures hat Sakurai posted. I wonder which staff made those pictures. :P

Is it hidden meaning that they are exhausted with development schedule or just being silly? :P

That's cool! You may have sold me on Amiibo!

They did, it is called the Wii U Pro Controller.

Correct answer. I know Smash guys love their octagon gate... but the Pro Controller is really the correct choice.

Another question: Is this game "safe" to play online? I know there were crashes and lock-ups going on. Did they release a patch for that?

http://smashboards.com/threads/official-standard-custom-moveset-project-initial-release.381395/

Initial release for a list of custom movesets for Tournament Organizers to use. :D

Seems like a great way to do it, still a bit un-intuitive which is more annoying about the game design then anything.

Is there an easy way to download someones 3DS save file which has everything unlocked for import? I don't have an action replay and never put the time in to unlock everything.

Having used both extensively, I'd say the Wii U Pro Controller is a perfectly acceptable way to play Smash and functions as a decent stand-in for the GameCube controller... but it's still no GameCube controller.

The Wii U Pro Controller is far and away the second-best way to play it, though. I'm impressed by just how ably it replaces the GCN controller in a pinch.
