Playstation exclusive franchise suddenly becomes Xbox exclusive with the third installment? That's some nice console wars fanfiction there.

Haha, yes. It would be so great. Not the game or announcement itself, just the reactions. Maybe one of the most outlandish and impossible thing to happen in this cycle. I'm just glad SF5 exists and that things are getting interesting. My PS4 and PC are ready for it.

If anything and going off topic here, this is great for PC gamers. How many fighters have we gotten or will be getting?

MK5
Street Fighter 5
Dead or Alive 5 Last Round
Rise of Incarnates - eh....
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
Super / Ultra Street Fighter 4
Injustice
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
Skullgirls
THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII STEAM EDITION
Street Fighter X Tekken
Dive Kick
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution

I'd be surprised if we didn't see Pokken Tournament making its way to the PC as well, though I'd really love Guilty Gear Xrd Sign on the platform as well.

So much for Capcom not wanting to put its games on PC, huh?

None yet. There was supposed to be a device to let you use some but nothing ever happened.

Dbz xenoverse too (and it seems promising)

It makes some sense. They don't really have a fighting game of their own so this being console exclusive helps give PS4 "its" fighting game. Maybe they did a similar deal with Capcom to get DMC exclusive to have an action game as well.

Did I miss something here? Is the next DMC going to be exclusive as well?

He isn't that vindictive. He wants all fighting games to be as successful as possible and is friends with Ono. He's just trolling, and the XB1 FGC/KI community will be miniscule anyway.

Vindictive has nothing to do with it, good news is good news. SFV can still succeed PS and PC exclusive, Tekken is simply now in a better place than it was before.

Glad this is happening. I was really hoping they would go to 5 for the new generation, rather than releasing hyper mega ultra or whatever, and it looks like they are.

Though watching the trailer, I thought the apparently new bits were from SF4. None of that footage looked like it would be SF5. I was completely wrong, it looks like. They're just using the same artstyle and it looks the same I guess.

Dragons Dogma 2 will probably never happen and since it sold something like 8 million less than SF4, while sucking not a big deal.

Can you imagine all the kids exchanging their Ones for a PS4 AFTER Xmas now? Microsoft could have one AND technically lost November after this announcement.

I don't think this will actually release in 2018. Could've been a false flag then or Sony stepping in and paying for console exclusivity accelerated development.

If that's the case then how big is Street Fighter really outside of that niche scene? Who ever says "we can't develop this amazing selling game because we have no money" when the game should pay for itself and then some?

So most Capcom games are going to be console-exclusive this generation?

What the hell is going on with this company?
Their mobile games were all failures and they had to end the service of most of them. Gaist Crusher was a massive failure that Capcom seemed to have heavily invested in and was hoping to turn into a childrens franchise like Youkai Watch.

I believe at one point earlier in the year that their fiscal report showed that they didn't have much money left for the size of the company. Luckily the annual Monster Hunter games always give them a huge boost of cash.

The closest comparison would be something like Monster Hunter right? Massive PSP franchise jumps exclusively to 3DS/WiiU

I'm sure a lot of these "upset" Xbox fans will boycott Tomb Raider to protest the moneyhatting of multiplatform franchises then?

The reason our industry still is in this crappy spot is that most people no matter which "side" not only eat this stuff up but even relieve platform holders of loads of PR work for free, not realising that they as consumers do not benefit from these silly shenanigans in any way, shape or form.

Get your console war shit outta here

Capcom doesn't seem to be interested in investing any significant amount of money into a game that is not Monster Hunter or Resident Evil- it seems like almost every AAA they've done outside of those lately (ie Dead Rising, Deep Down) is moneyhatted by somebody. And Sony's really the only partner who makes sense for a game like this.

Some great delusional answers here. Who said Sony was broke? Still, there is no doubt that they are in trouble, and with how great the PS4 is doing, this seems like a strange move to do with such a huge (and potentially expensive) franchise.
Sigh, nothing delusional about finding another "but how can Sony afford that?!" comment hilarious.
They are doing bad yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can't afford to buy exclusivity/finance the development of a game. They still have money, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. If they can greenlight a new project for one of their studios and fund the development of it then why is it such a strange idea that they'd eventually have gotten a deal like this one? It's the same stuff.

I don't have hard numbers on hand or anything but the terms of this moneyhat must be good for Capcom considering they've had a number of games that performed below expectations (DmC, LP3, Remember Me, RE6, etc.). The thirst is real though it seems odd to make a console exclusive SF since it's such a historic franchise that sells well on many platforms.

I thought RE6 sold like 6 million copies. Surely that has to be enough to turn a profit.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Is SFV really a big get for Sony? I don't think fighting games are system sellers.

According to wikipedia:

Street Fighter IV has sold 3.3 million units. Super Street Fighter IV has sold 1.9 million units, in addition to 1.1 million of the Arcade Edition (full game only).Ultra Street Fighter IV has sold 500,000 copies (Full game only) by September 30, 2014.Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition sold an additional 1.2 million copies. This adds up to sales of 8 million copies in total.

This is a really nice coup for Sony, but were people really aching for a Street Fighter sequel?

Besides updating the graphics, what gameplay changes would justify them making a sequel so soon?

I would've preferred they port SFIV and made it free to play with option to buy skins. Dragons Drogma or any other new IP would've been a much bigger megaton.

This must be why the head of Xbox Japan resigned. I bet this was the final fucking straw for Redmond. No one expects Xbone to be a serious contender in Japan. They maintain a market there for one reason: keep the dozen or so Japanese IPs still vital in the west on Xbox. And then this goober goes a lets Sony buy exclusivity. Right after MS paid Evo who knows how much to make Xbone the official tournament console!

He's lucky to still have all 10 fingers. What a disaster.

As far as I can tell most of the Japanese publishers are signing up exclusives to one of the three vendors.

I think they've stopped wanting to take up risks on consoles.

When consoles are basically dead in Japan while mobile is booming I sorta understand.

If this does end up being a paid exclusive by Sony, wouldn't they have to dish out more to potentially keep the inevitable "Super" and "Ultra" editions exclusive as well? I wonder if the payment and/or funding covers all versions and future updates.

They only really need the first version. I doubt that a significant number of players will switch platforms if SFV2nd is released on Xbox One.

I mean, maybe? The issue is more that Capcom has been noted to have some insane sales expectations for its key franchises. I recall the DmC one being totally ridiculous, considering how the game turned out.
