The closest comparison would be something like Monster Hunter right? Massive PSP franchise jumps exclusively to 3DS/WiiU

Oh yeah you're right. Forgot about that. I don't really play those games but it must've been a huge surprise. Iwata playing out all his cards and it totally worked for them. See, I want everyone to be able to play every game and all, but those kind of deals spice things up. I like that.

Great, I see the trend of third-party timed exclusives is not going to be ending any time soon.

Let's see how are the reactions when Dragons Dogma 2 or something is only on Xbox.

That would be a really stupid move on Capcom's part given DD did pretty well in Japan... you know, where the Xbox doesn't sell?

Character models look incredibly detailed and well animated though.

i wouldn't use the word "incredible" when describing the graphics of this game

but you Bayern fans are used to throwing that word on something mediocre, so i guess i'll have to let it slide

I do find it funny that people can be so mad about this, yet Microsoft have secured many paid for exclusives in their time. It's just a part of the industry. I hope we find out that technically this game wasn't going to get made until Sony came along with cash, and not just that they paid to exclude it from the One. If it's the former no one can complain really.

Just like in the old days, if you want to taste all that's on offer you'll ideally need all three consoles, no different from Snes/Megadrive days and so on and so forth. Frankly the PS4 is already pretty cheap and there's great deals out there, and it's not a purchase that will be regretted.

They only really need the first version. I doubt that a significant number of players will switch platforms if SFV2nd is released on Xbox One.

They will if the online play on PSN is garbage. Whatever this exclusivity deal turns out to be, they need to make sure they nail the online experience. Xbox Live was a trooper for SF4 last gen.

a) Why does it still look like butt-ugly SFIV?
b) This is the most offensive third-party exclusive yet. #4theplayers indeed.

That move single handily killed any traction and chances of success the Vita had in Japan. Perhaps in general considering how important the Japanese market was for the psp.

I know this was rumoured ages ago but I really didn't think it would happen but this is big! Not for me though as fighters aren't my thing and I've probably had enough after the PS4 version...unless they do some sort of discounted upgrade for people who have downloaded the PS3 version.

Only just seen this so haven't read the whole thread, has there been any confirmation of some sort of upgrade deal?
This isn't SFIV.

Is SFV really a big get for Sony? I don't think fighting games are system sellers.

It's a big get because it locks an entire genre's fanbase into buying PS4s. SF5 maybe isn't a system seller on its own, but Street Fighter is *the* fighting game guaranteed to make its way into the homes of every member of the fighting game community. Those same fans are also likely to buy Tekken, SC, Guilty Gear, DoA, KoF on PS4 now, too.

Hopefully this is not a timed deal that loses its exclusivity with the Supa dupa ultra versions later. Timed exclusives are the worst thing and not an incentive to buy/keep a console.

My guess is Sony might have founded it a bit since Ono said it would be too costly/Capcom don't have money.

Makes sense.

Does anybody have the sales numbers for the previous Street Fighters on PC?? We can finally see why they put it on PC also if so.

I'm sure a lot of these "upset" Xbox fans will boycott Tomb Raider to protest the moneyhatting of multiplatform franchises then?

It's really not about sides. At least it shouldn't be. It's not good for the consumer, and speaks to the desperation of Capcom and their health as a solvent game company far more than anything else.

The tomb raider money hat was trash as well.

This must be why the head of Xbox Japan resigned. I bet this was the final fucking straw for Redmond. No one expects Xbone to be a serious contender in Japan. They maintain a market there for one reason: keep the dozen or so Japanese IPs still vital in the west on Xbox. And then this goober goes a lets Sony buy exclusivity. Right after MS paid Evo who knows how much to make Xbone the official tournament console!

He's lucky to still have all 10 fingers. What a disaster.
Whoa, I had no idea Microsoft had out money down on tournament exclusivity. Wonder how that will pan out for both players.

Probably just exclusive to the PS4 in Japan. Can't seeing Capcom go PS4 exclusive for WW too.
There's no logical reason to think this.

The producer of the series teased an unexpected announcement (rumored to not be the SF announcement) and Capcom filed a new trademark for DMC yesterday.

Ok thanks. I heard about this, but was worried there might have been an announcement I hadnt catched.

Sigh, nothing delusional about finding another "but how can Sony afford that?!" comment hilarious.
They are doing bad yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can't afford to buy exclusivity/finance the development of a game. If they can greenlight a new project for one of their studios and fund the development of it then why is it such a strange idea that they'd eventually have gotten a deal like this one? It's the same stuff.

Street Fighter is not like Bayonetta or Bloodborne though. It is one of the premier franchises in video gaming - and on an even bigger level than Tomb Raider. Cant remember the last time such a huge game was moneyhatted, and it cant have been cheap.

If that's the case then how big is Street Fighter really outside of that niche scene? Who ever says "we can't develop this amazing selling game because we have no money" when the game should pay for itself and then some?

I think someone here said the best-selling title sold 3.3mil copies. So I'd say it's more than just a niche title. That said: "Ono says no budget for Street Fighter V"

A fan asked Ono on Twitter if he was secretly working on Street Fighter V for next-generation consoles, to which the designer replied, "I don't have R&D budget and staff."

So who knows what's exactly going on there with Capcom.

I don't think false flag means what you think it means.

I think you're right. False flag = red herring. :p
