The Game Awards 2014 Thread: Keighley unveils, less McHales

NMS has infinite potential. Too bas all we'se seen so far is flying and walking around.
I'm okay with as exploratory experience, but people seem to want more from it.. and we haven't seen anything apart from flying and walking.

It's my most antecipated game, but it's also the one which I'm most unsure about the quality. I think we'll see people start demanding more gameplay footage pretty soon, or else they'll start to get burned.

It's because its an awards show, and they are typically long. Its not a quick showing of a bunch of trailers, despite everyone's misguided expectations.

The length would be fine if it was spent on giving awards out with the respect they deserve and not handed off on the side willy nilly (oh here Hearthstone guy, have the one we were going to give to Nintendo for best dev). Less music acts, more on stage awards.

Nintendo not being treated like a redheaded stepchild and this song have been the best parts of the show so far.

Like how they received their developer of the year award at the sidebar while getting interrupted in the middle to hand out an award to someone else?

Ok well if this is what's playing while I'm wandering around on planets. I don't really care what else. It would be worth $15 to listen to music and discover giant purple flying worms.

I'm still waiting for the catch as far as No Man's Sky goes. Like, I refuse to believe that it'll really do everything I've been led to believe it will do.

wait what, the NMS trailer said "every galaxy procedural".. there's several GALAXIES in the game? that would be nuts. i think that was a mistake though, because it also said "every atom procedural" which is silly.

i love how imaginative the environments and creatures looked, very alien. they should maybe simplify the geometry a bit to cut down on the pop-in.. don't try to push too much stuff on screen, it's not necessary. that much pop-in hurts immersion too much, especially in a game like this.

Exploration of an infinite galaxy. What's not to get?

Yeah, i mean how can people not be hyped (or at least understand why some are) for a game that allows infinite planets (that you can wander around), infinite galaxies (in which you can fly to every star) and a full universe (that you can fly to every galaxy in it) that's also online! AND that looks this good.

So no one is going to say anything about the pop-ins?

If you watch the thirty minute video Game Informer put up (theres another thread) they talk about that, and while I'm not sold on the 'gameplay' in this game (what is the objective besides just wondering around everywhere?) it isn't pop in (slow loading) instead its the world actually being made in that very moment. It's very impressive.

Though I love the music, there is too much of it. A few pieces here and there, but for a show called "The Game Awards" there is so very little of it. When they actually have a proper award presentation, it is nice. They need to reduce the amount of premieres, musical acts, etc and make that be a special occasion. Not the primary piece. Again, the awards take a backseat to the promotional aspects of the show.

That said, there is still a much more mature tone to the show than any VGA's and for that it is infinitely better and Keighley should be applauded for that.

There is a lot of room for growth for this show, but this was a decent showing. Just far too long.

this music is bad

Opinions man

Some great and actual games have been on display:

No Man's Sky, Metal Gear Online, Before, Adrift, The Witcher 3, Until Dawn.

The rest haven't done much for me, but this is more than I expected. Bloodborne made me curious.
