If it was Fat Princess, no need to embargo it. We are already getting plenty of port announcements for PS3/4/Vita ahead of PSX. Fat Princess could be one of them. Even if it is a sequel, I don't think they have to embargo it.

Announcements come out when publishers want them to come out.

Can anybody explain how Sony came to lose the Crash brand?

As others have posted, they never owned it to begin with. It ended up with Activision at the time they got Sierra who were the last dev/pub to make Crash and Spyro games.
