Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

WOW! I want this game NOW. The variety of movement, both for enemies and Drake, the more open world environments, the lighting, the facial animations ... NOW!

That hand model though!

Far too early to be able to read too much about the game from what we've seen but at a few points during the trailer they seem to intentionally draw attention to alternative routs through the gameplay area. As I said, too early to know what that means at the moment.

Hmmm, not very impressive IMO, not because it's bad but just because it doesn't look better than anything else the consoles are doing which I kind of expected ND to do.

You can really see it's just an upgrade of the old engine just with better textures and dynamic foliage. The animations are the same, the geometry is quite low polygon for current gen and it still has the same small areas with 'fake' vistas, maybe I was just expecting something different.

right when i was thinking games were getting more colorful, both mgs and uncharted decides to go green n brown..

I, too, was looking forward to a pink jungle.

Has Uncharted always had a climbing tool and ropes to get across ?

Has tomb raider always had cinematic set-pieces and Uncharted like gameplay?

The combat in this doesn't look too similar to Tomb Raider to me. This is much more open and freeform.

Really disappointing for me.

Nothing to do with the graphics. Hard to tell from my stream but they look beautiful.

For me, it's the complete lack of any innovation, change, evolution or progression. ND seem to have learned nothing from TLOU to take over to Uncharted 4, apart from a new reticule icon. 7 years on from the original, we still have the same formula of looking around (press triangle), climbing a bit, 'shit going to hell' and then a climactic sigh of relief. It's the same awkward animations, the same locations, the same enemies you kill in the same way and the same sloppy gunplay. It's more lushious and maybe a tad more open, but being able to duck under foliage now is not a progression that is worth 7 years of waiting.

In fact, for me it's almost a decline given the tone is all over the place. Every game they claim to be darker, more gritty, more emotionally damning, but it ends up completely at odds with Nolan North's little quips here and there and the attempts at humour.

At least Drake now has a brother who'll betray you that they've waited 7 years to tell us about?

There are games doing parts of what Uncharted did better, and there will soon be games (if you don't believe there already are) that do all of what Uncharted does better. It's staying the course and sailing on into irrelevance as it fails to renew or evolve. In fact, I'm pretty sure ND's own innovations and evolution in TLOU and whatever new projects are going to cannibalise Uncharted.

If you wanted more of the same, then there can be no complains. But for me, it's literally 'same shit, not-very-different island'. We can argue if it's a generational leap in graphics, but I can't see even sizable hop in gameplay after 7 years.

The level design they showed in this demo was the game changer, for real. In comparison with previous entries, these multilayered levels are amazing.

You need to look at PS3/360 games again. Humans always looked like dull plastic.

Well, this thread is about ND and UC. DOA? Really? A game where the creators aren't aiming for realism?

Last I checked ND also made some PS3 games that looked like this:

Graphically it wasn't that impressive (for ND standards). I thought it was because it was at 60FPS, but hearing it was at 30 is a little disappointing. Gameplay looks solid. Hope to see more color in the final game.

I am not feeling it much, but if it is in 60fps, then it looks good enough. And I hope it is 60fps in final game.

Laughed at his, and though the same thing at the brother reveal, but I refuse to believe that Naughty Dog will have you betrayed yet again in this game. They've done it every game and everyone probably expects it by now.

My dream has been shattered, once again gameplay is focused only on TPS mechanics and the platforming is performed with autopilot's 'you can't miss it' jumps... what a criminally wasted opportunity.

Also I hope people would refrain from judging gfx going by Twitch's awfully compressed stream but I know that this is basically asking the impossible around here (after all the vast majority of gaffers keep judging games' visuals, especially Nintendo's, going by direct screens instead of, at least, video footage at native framerate)

It looks fabulous but diminishing returns and previous games pushing the boundaries and looking striking already, mean you need pristine footage to really catch the vast improvements. Of course there was a massive downgrade from the E3 reveal... IF you thought that was anything but an in-engine cutscene (I mean, dat IQ, 'cmon!).
Too bad about 30fps, I fucking knew it.

Gameplay looks like it can be quite a bit more interesting than before. Looks about what I expected, updated visual style of Uncharted not some photo realistic or gritty thing.

don't compare this with ps3 cutscenes, those were all prerendered.

I thought it looked fucking awesome, Im incredible impressed to be honest by the gameplay too, also no more bulletsponges :)

Thats the really great news to me!

Yup.

Somehow we still get the standard "no innvative, no next gen enugh". Apparently people were expecting Nathan Drake to hop on a ship and travel the universe.

Whoa, man you must be blind.

OR we simply expected the gameplay to be as good as usual but with the graphical leap the E3 reveal indicated? Too much to expect?

Man. After that long ass gameplay demo people are squared in on the graphics? What about the gameplay options, AI, or level design? This is why we get CG trailers from early big games.

Anyways, this actually looked fun to play. My only problem was the auto platforming. Although, looked like there was some kind of risk when the rocks were breaking?

This will probably be my first ND Uncharted game.

I really hope these UC4 threads don't start becoming like the Order ones. Dull colour palette? Can be done on the PS3? Too much climbing in an Uncharted game? Come on people.

Running around a jungle was not the way they blew everyone away with the uc2 and 3 gameplay reveals.

Basically this. You all wanted gameplay and you got it. I'm satisfied with what they showed. There wasn't any major change to gameplay that blew me away, but it was the little things like hiding in bushes, the chokehold system from TLOU being carried over, the enemies looking for you while you're on a ledge, the aiming reticle changes, the whip evade move, and the overall map design and how you can play through a section in various ways. That last part isn't entirely new to the franchise, but I don't think we've ever seen anything on this level in terms of choice. Seems like ND learned a lot from The Last of Us and I think the gameplay will be a lot better for it. We can see some 1080p, 60fps setpieces at E3.

Oh man really? 30fps. I was really betting on ND to make this 60fps after TLOUR. Who knows maybe they might hit it. Regardless, it looks gorgeous.

They totally are. DOA5 is the first game in the series without the heavy anime motif.

And that Uncharted 3 pic proves my point.

I really can't understand how comments like these are in this thread:

Really disappointed, it looks and plays like an Uncharted...
