Far Cry 4 now runs at 60 fps on PS5

It's really not bad right now on PS5 (Pro), good way to play the game. I don't know what resolution it's using but I think it's higher than on PS4?

I might just be imagining it, but I thought they removed the 30 cap when playing on Series or PS5 consoles.
You're half right. AC unity runs at 60 FPS on Xbox Series (it's an fps boost title), and on PS5 you need to play the unpatched disc version to get 60 fps, but that version is quite buggy. So, right now, the best console version of Unity is on Xbox Series.

The game never got a Pro patch. You're probably noticing that PS5 Pro scaler thing that makes some PS4 games look sharper.

I loaded it up on my pro and it looks and runs fantastic. The game deserved this update. Unfortunately I won't be playing it as I've over 120 hours played already so have pretty much done everything.

Next up will hopefully be far cry 3 and primal then I think they'll be all the modern Far cryseat 60fps.

I'm hoping far cry 2 gets a remake and is part of a far cry 7 Ultimate edition. Because far cry 2 created the formula we all fell in love with.

I thought I might have been missing a piece of the puzzle.

The AI upscale on PS5 Pro seems to work very well in this game. It seems to work better in already clean games and worse in games with strong effects like CA (as in Bloodborne).

I forgot that the PS5 Pro has that AI upscaling stuff. Planning on getting a PS5 Pro later in the year, but since I've got a 1080p TV, I doubt I'll notice any difference?

Perhaps they did something with Xbox as well. Got a 214mb update on series x yesterday.

Unless the patch gave it a resolution bump, it's kinda pointless. The game was already FPS Boosted to 60fps on both Series consoles.

Yeah I think it's just Ubi updating it themselves to 60fps. I don't think MS has ever gone into detail on how their FPS boost works but I assume that a dev update would be more stable/efficient since it's altering the actual code? Not sure, but yeah that's all this update is it looks like.

I haven't really checked out any FPS boosted games (that I remember) aside from Dark Souls 3 but according to trueachievements, fps boost came at the cost of a lowered resolution?

"The game had previously been playable at 60fps on Xbox thanks to FPS boost, but it came at the cost of diminished resolution. This patch should mean you can play the open-world Xbox game at 1080p/60fps."

I was curious so I looked it up and FPS boost was auto enable for FC4 which means it shouldn't have been at the cost of resolution. It also never got updated for One X/PS4 Pro as far as I'm aware so there wasn't really much to downgrade.

In some games, FPS Boost would reduce the game to Xbox One S resolution, where the original 30fps version might be Xbox One X's higher resolution. However there are some games where it retains both the higher resolution and gives it a 60fps update, Division 1 is the best example. It runs at 2160p and 60fps on Series X cause of FPS Boost.

Any game where the game would need to drop to One S resolution specifically would have FPS Boost turned off by default, but if it's On by default, it means it retains the maximum resolution (if the game had an One X version)

The TA article, someone's gonna need to do a pixel count to verify.

The game ran at 1440x1080p on Xbox One, which then got 60fps on Series consoles. The PS4 version ran at a native 1920x1080p and ran at 30fps before this official patch from Ubisoft.

Maybe they've bumped the Xbox version to native 1080p now as well.

I'm flipping back and forth between the xbox series x and ps5 version and I swear the xbox version looks better. Better resolution, maybe slightly better l.o.d. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Edit, 100% there is a difference

Xbox version got a res upgrade from 1440x1080p to native 1080p, matches the PS4 versions 1080p.

Both run at 60fps now.

Ubi updated the Xbox One version instead of just doubling frame-rate, so maybe they tweaked some other settings along with the resolution, DF didn't mention anything like this in their video tho.

If you have both downloaded, mind taking some pics from the same spot on both?

I can do that tonight, although I dont have a professional way to capture it. I'm sure I can figure something out.

Also, something got really messed up with my PS5 version and hanging load times. If you die or fast travel it loads in 15 seconds (usually) but now you will sometimes get a loading screen that's a minute, or two minutes, and multiple times I have had 5 plus minute load times. Sometimes it just hangs on the loading screen forever leaving you no choice but to force close the game and relaunch it.

The PS5 version also does something I call the "double load" where if you die it will try to load you back in but it will be one of the longer loading sequences (of around a minute or two instead of the usual 10-15 seconds) and upon the loading completion you will get a brief half second blip of your character on the screen as normal and then you get thrown right back into the infinite loading screen where you have to force restart.

Oh, and if anything I'd say the PS5 version looks softer than the xbox version even if at the same resolution. Maybe it's using a different form of AA??

Great game! You can throw a piece of meat and a leopard will come and tear out enemies. Or you can shoot an elephant and it will destroy everything!

I mean both consoles have a screenshot feature. but to get the best quality screenshots off of your PS5 you need to export them to USB I think. on Xbox you can just upload them either to the Xbox app or Onedrive and they should be basically lossless png. If you upload screenshots to the PS App you only get slightly lossy jpg images, but over USB you can get the png originals I think.

I might give it a look too, but I'd have to download both... and I'm not sure if I have space on my PS5 🙃 gotta delete something

Looks like is not only a 60fps, but the Xbox One version got a resolution boost, so is 1920x1080p just like base PS4.

Well, I tried to play so I could get the comparative screenshots between the 2 consoles but the game crashed on me, which is something I forgot to mention that happens very often on the PS5.

I'll try again later.

Take2/Rockstar: Our shit still sells no matter what, RDR2 hasn't left PS4 Top 10 in over 7 years, you gamers give us money anyway so we don't have to work for it.
I still say it's coming with the Switch 2 release of RDR2. They will do like they did with the Switch 1 release of RDR1 and throw PS fans a bone by giving them 60fps too.

I mean, if they actually add some kind of new content and make it true native 4k 60fps and price it accordingly e.g $49.99 or less...
I would take the PC lighting, shadows and 4K texture detail settings and be happy. The PS5/XSX is more than capable at 60 with that game. Pro even more so.

You were right, there is a difference in clarity between the two. The PS4/5 version is a little bit blurrier. Hard to get pics of the exact same locations but in the intro you can match a place or two after opening a door etc. Good on Ubi for up-lifting the XBO version from the original low resolution and settings.

Made some quick n' dirty comparisons.

Comparison 1: https://imgsli.com/Mzc4MTM3

Texture quality and anti aliasing also seem to be better on Xbox post-patch, look at the tree bark in the middle and wires in the far right back, the tree branches also look somewhat better.

Comparison 2: https://imgsli.com/Mzc4MTM4

I wish I had the original XBO version to compare directly, don't have it on disc sadly.

Hell yeah, I knew I wasn't crazy. I was just going off what I could see with my own eyes after flipping my TV input back and forth from PS to Xbox. If they are claiming its the same resolution (which I'm skeptical of) I'm thinking it must be a different form of AA being applied.

The resolution is probably the same, the difference isn't stark enough to be a difference in pixel count. I'm gonna guess they inherited a higher tier of PC preset settings for the Xbox patch, where the PS4 version is the same as before with double the performance.
