Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

Yeah I really like the open elements, as well as the lack of chest-high walls. You'll be spending a lot more time jumping over cliffs to evade the enemy rather than sitting and waiting for heads to pop out of cover.

There's a great vertical, 360-degree feel here. You can be attacked from anywhere, in front, behind, above or below.

DOF is on point

They said 60fps...

Now is at 30fps because it's in alpha stage or is going to be at that frame rate in the final version?

Now it's 30fps because that's as high as they can go with a stable framerate so far. Hopefully it will end up at 60 but somehow I doubt it now. If it does end up at 60fps then I'll be impressed but at 30fps any other PS4 title might as well have done this just as well.

The open combat game of cat and mouse made the demo pretty enjoyable. Open ended firefights is pretty cool. Wondering if it will be more sandbox like fights in this one

Somebody said it in the other thread but this is feels like a more realized Uncharted 1. Like a redo. I really enjoy coastal and island environments in games so hopefully its good

Of course I am. There is a leap... it's just not very big at all, when it comes to pure graphical fidelity. I think the gameplay looks more organic than ever so there is that. I'm just not gonna pretend this is impressive to look at.

It's not like I can't see the difference... but a generational leap in graphical fidelity? Are you guys for real?

For real dude? REAL TIME vs PRE-RENDERED and yet the UC4 one looks much better. Pre-rendered scenes will look better than real-time in most cases.

That looks better then any of the jungle encounters in the PS3 versions. Actually the firefights look way better. Seems the game is a bit more openended, so hopefully this will lead to more exploration and better puzzles.

Dunno... I am actually really content with what I saw. And lol off course Troy Baker is in this.

Gameplay wise yes, everything shown could have been done on PS3 with a few less trimmings, moving bushes, etc...

Well, no shit. Name a game, released or forthcoming, that is doing something gameplay-wise that is not achievable on prior gen consoles.

Besides, it's Uncharted - it's going to have Uncharted gameplay with a few added flourishes. In this case we saw spike aided climbing, a rope swing takedown and a foliage aided stealth takedown. I'm sure there will be more.

Wow. I'm super impressed. I see shades of Tomb Raider 2013 and TLOU, but from what I can tell, this goes much further than those games, too. The level design is so excellent, the platforming and the combat so seamlessly lead into one another, the potential for experimentation seems on another level from before, and man, how nice it is to be able to walk away without necessarily having to reach some benchmark for henchmen slaughtered.

I haven't played UC2/3, unfortunately, but I considered UC1 a gem. I beat it in two sessions. Going through it was exciting, because it felt like developers were doing something new with that action-adventure genre, combining these TPS, platforming, and narrative elements in this excellent way (not that one was excellent on its own). Watching this UC4 trailer made me excited again.

But man, the main thing might be the level design. This kind of photorealistic, linear game can sometimes be dizzying. This well realized, detailed world is implied, but then the corridor structure can be seen all over in the level design. I never quite know how much exploration I'm supposed to do, and interactivity is incredibly selective. Something about that high detail + selective interactivity + incredibly limited movement thing can take a bit to get used to. For me, that applied to TLOU. There was an adjustment period there.

UC4, based on those 15 minutes, seems to hit a sweet spot. It's really hard for me to explain exactly why I feel that way, because on the surface, it's hardly that dissimilar. The basic principles of UC1, TLOU, etc. are still going to apply. But something about it just does a great job bridging that linear structure with the more expansive world all these details point to. And it seems like a blast to move around in.

There looks to be quite a bit more verticality to the combat this time and the rope/lasso thing made multi level play quicker than it would have been in the past.

Really disappointing for me.

Nothing to do with the graphics. Hard to tell from my stream but they look beautiful.

For me, it's the complete lack of any innovation, change, evolution or progression. ND seem to have learned nothing from TLOU to take over to Uncharted 4, apart from a new reticule icon. 7 years on from the original, we still have the same formula of looking around (press triangle), climbing a bit, 'shit going to hell' and then a climactic sigh of relief. It's the same awkward animations, the same locations, the same enemies you kill in the same way and the same sloppy gunplay. It's more lushious and maybe a tad more open, but being able to duck under foliage now is not a progression that is worth 7 years of waiting.

In fact, for me it's almost a decline given the tone is all over the place. Every game they claim to be darker, more gritty, more emotionally damning, but it ends up completely at odds with Nolan North's little quips here and there and the attempts at humour.

At least Drake now has a brother who'll betray you that they've waited 7 years to tell us about?

There are games doing parts of what Uncharted did better, and there will soon be games (if you don't believe there already are) that do all of what Uncharted does better. It's staying the course and sailing on into irrelevance as it fails to renew or evolve. In fact, I'm pretty sure ND's own innovations and evolution in TLOU and whatever new projects are going to cannibalise Uncharted.

If you wanted more of the same, then there can be no complains. But for me, it's literally 'same shit, not-very-different island'. We can argue if it's a generational leap in graphics, but I can't see even sizable hop in gameplay after 7 years.

What in the fuck? Were we watching the same gameplay video??

Also, I want you to take your criticisms that you just made for Uncharted 4 and apply that to major FPS/TPS franchise across genres.

By the way the gamersyde version should be added to the OP (best quality as always).

Better for angle comparison.

All wet in direct moonlight vs dry in more ambiant lighting.

This is why those "comparisons" always look stupid. Though i'm kind of surprised that now even Naughty Dog is brought up to such scrutiny, usually it's only devs everyone hate like Ubisoft or EA.

The level design and encounter design looked great.

Seems like they are applying some of what they learned from The Last of Us with stealth and the like.

Yeah, it's good stuff. Excited for this game. Think is looks and moves amazing. Too bad I probably won't get a PS4 next year, since I'll be dropping somewhere around 1.5k on a new PC.

To me the graphics were great but not even in the same realm as the e3 reveal, which was to be expected despite what everyone was saying back then. AI looks good, it doesnt seem like they are bullshitting it either. I guess we'll see the "cinematic" gameplay demo at e3 next year, i hope this island isn't the only location.

Yes I can. As anyone can see two different games and tell which one has better lighting if there is a diference.

edit: the games looks great, i am not denying that, don't feel bad, , but that teaser looked as good as many CG made nowadays from beginning to end. The game looked like a great looking game from start to finish of the demo, but i never thought it was CG.

Guess I just don't agree. I think to know major differences in that scene with his wet hair and all, we need more.

This looks pretty similar in quality and that makes me sure that I don't believe anyone can be sure of the specifics because the hair is the only truly obvious one but it's also got wet effects and a blurrier picture in the E3 pics. It's a nutty comparison and people who say they can compare it anyway are not the most credible.

I can't believe the graphics even when he is not the main character 0_0

Vegetation was the most impressive thing to me in the demo. PS4 loves grass as we know from GTAV.

Overall I was probably too hyped for this. It's Uncharted alright. And it will be great.

Because that is an obvious downgrade.

The reveal was insane. Loved the level design. Similar direction a la Halo with open ended combat in a linear setting.

I went from mildly curious to this rivaling Batman as my most anticipated game next year.

God Damn that was awesome. Gameplay looks great as usual. Everything about this feels so good.

You know the game looks amazing when trolls compare in-game gameplay with pre-rendered scenes from PS3.
