Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

Is it me or did the water actually affect Nate's hair?

Anyways, So release date speculation, Summer 2015 (a la Last of Us) or Fall 2015 (Like every other Uncharted game)?

I really was hoping we'd see it 2015 but now that they didn't say anything about the release even I'm a bit skeptical. It could and probably should come out next year though.

DOF is glorious.

It's cool how after this when he hits him the water splash.

By the way the gamersyde version should be added to the OP (best quality as always).

All wet in direct moonlight vs dry in more ambiant lighting.

This is why those "comparisons" always look stupid. Though i'm kind of surprised that now even Naughty Dog is brought up to such scrutiny, usually it's only devs everyone hate like Ubisoft or EA.

This comparison is so stupid. Different time and weather condition ( WD with rain in night was amazing ) and difference in image quality.

massively larger areas for firefights - the demo clearly showing Drake moving around to flank etc. And a lot more animation variation both with Drake and in fighting interactions.

Looks great, especially considering a relatively slow/quiet area - hopefully we get more of an Uncharted 2 collapsing house type dramatic demo for E3.

Fuck it... im hyped. Uncharted is my favorite game series... This looks phenomenal.

Personally id rather them lock it @30fps and boost the graphics, but if the game looks like this and runs @60fps ill be happy too.

They said 60fps...

Now is it at 30fps because it's in alpha stage or is going to be at that frame rate in the final version?

That's what I'm wondering as well. If they downgraded the expected framerate, now would be the time to reveal it and get ahead of the impending disappointment.

The gameplay looked excellent to me (the R1 swinging mechanic looked great), but the graphics and framerate looked pretty early. They've created the best looking console games in the past, so hopefully their streak continues on the PS4. It's a little weird that Ready at Dawn have them beat in the graphics department, although I'd argue that it's probably the helping hands of Santa Monica that have made The Order such a gorgeous game.

This is ginna sound weird, but imo UC4 looks like Halo 4. The lighting, jungle art style, reflections, bloom.

Obviously I'm not talking about graphical fidelity but overall presentation.

Looks like Uncharted with a few extra tricks up Nate's sleeve. I don't think this was the best environment to show though, it's just a bunch of rocks and trees. The vegetation looks really nice but the rest of the environment probably doesn't let the game show off what Naughty Dog has really been doing with the PS4. I'd like to see something else like the city-type area in the distance at the end of the video.

The cut scene at the end obviously shows a huge difference in visual quality compared with the actual gameplay, just like Uncharted 3.

It's like the devs were sitting around a table and said "What if we removed all the chest high walls?"

The result is stellar. You end up with an emphasis on mobility and traversal (as well as cool new gameplay tricks like the grapple to support it), which is much more active and fun than ducking behind something.

That looked fucking gobsmacking.

That opening exploration and stillness, emanating early Tomb Raider games' atmosphere and ambience.

That verticality, that only-in-Uncharted blend of traversal directly into the combat scenarios, and that blend of opportunistic stealth within those combat encounters rather than as an on/off switch in most games.

That flow between shooting, jumping, melee, grenades, climbing, hiding and taking cover and back to pure exploration.

Fuck. THIS is how you make a trailer to sell me on a game. Open gameplay bliss wedded to great performance capture and beautifully realized environments.

PS: Naughty Gods, please bring back co-op modes ala Uncharted 2 and I'll buy four copies :)

Yeah I really like the open elements, as well as the lack of chest-high walls. You'll be spending a lot more time jumping over cliffs to evade the enemy rather than sitting and waiting for heads to pop out of cover.

There's a great vertical, 360-degree feel here. You can be attacked from anywhere, in front, behind, above or below.

Erm, I liked the demo but, there was a pretty obvious one.

For me it's like the conveniently horizontally layered rocks for climbing, I don't think they're going anywhere. For Uncharted I don't really mind them, because it's either that or no climbing, removing those things would mean changing completely the formula, which is not really what I want from an Uncharted I guess.

Wow, for it being in the pre-alpha stage the game is looking pretty great!! it still gives them more time to refine it even more.

What it is I think is that, other than the character models and the foliage density/interactions, it looks just like an up-res'd Uncharted 2 or 3 environment. That goes for the lighting, texture quality, geometry, and shaders. It doesn't have that "woah" jump in visuals. The game doesn't look bad right now, just like even UC2 and 3 don't look bad now, but I think most people were expecting it to be more impressive.

I just hope it improves a lot by release.

Totally disagree. Sure it has that Uncharted aesthetic but that is about it. Geometry is far higher, vegetation and shadowing finally don't looked borked (2d trees everywhere in previous games). Lighting is much more natural...Compare this to the starting section in say Infamous or the jungle area in AC:BF...This looks a good deal better.

Really, really love the gameplay in this demo. I can also tell they've changed the gun sounds. They don't sound like cheap knock off toys. TLOU gun sounds spoiled me and I'm glad they are updating them in UC4.
This and Bloodborne are my most anticipated games of 2015.

One of the best things is the variety of the textures on the rocks ( and the realism of the moss, and what not attached to it), so it doesn't feel like the same dull stone cliff coming up over an over.

How can you not be impressed. Every complaint about Uncharted appears to be fixed here. Massive step up in gameplay.

Be wary of showfloor gameplay trailers from Sony though. Remember TLoU's E3 gameplay demo? Fool me once Naughty Dog! Fool me fucking once...

Now I'm not skeptical you can be beaten up to a wall or swing by pressing R1, but subtle transitions like Drake swinging and then landing a punch very fluently on an enemy's head while landing on him... it's just hard not to be skeptical after what happened with TLoU

Ok am i drunk or something

Drake looks totally different?

I'm downloading the gamersyde video right now anyway to see if it's me or the compression of the first picture lol

?

You are looking at a profile shot and a face on shot of the same

Rewatching it again, I loved the flow though it is a bit unrealstic when you're actually playing it. But it looks a lot more open than other Uncharted. By open, I mean, the level is full so there are many ways to attack it unlike the last few uncharted.

Especially after playing 3, when there was so much potential for the level of openness, this is a huge step up.

Stealth looks greatly updated. Body mechanics and animation for parkour look a lot cleaner and better.

But all and all, it is really hard to change the formula for a game that has an identity. I think Uncharted has it set pieces that It can't really do differently. This game is meant to be realistic so I think the most they could do to change it would be adding new fighting sequences, new area's and locations, adding a new storyline, and moving forward as such.

Its not a sci-fi game where you can just start using your imagination and coming up with stuff. So, I think it looks like a worthy sequel. And not exactly like past uncharted's, but improved.

Yeah I really like the open elements, as well as the lack of chest-high walls. You'll be spending a lot more time jumping over cliffs to evade the enemy rather than sitting and waiting for heads to pop out of cover.

I think that this is a vastly underated element of this trailer. People seem to only care about how good drake can look at LOD0 scenes, which by seeing the likes of Arkham Knight and others, is going to be pretty high quality but thats largely boring. Whats significant here is the actual enviroment, which seems to have taken huge steps up from previous uncharteds.

Im impressed.

Who to thank for this amazing level:

Erm, I liked the demo but, there was a pretty obvious one.

They were there, but they were far fewer than what you'd expect out of something like Gears of War, where there are inexplicable box-shaped rocks in an open area.

Idk why some people play games. If literally nothing impresses you (enough to call this a ps3 game) you might need another hobby/vocation.

I don't mind the graphical talk, but I find it absurd how some people insist that this is just more of the same, or "generic" or whatever.

This is definitely the best encounter design I've seen in the series, and makes me very excited for the game, it seems like they learned some valuable lessons from The Last of Us, and even from the Uncharted multiplayer, where verticality and platforming during combat is a million times more important than in any of the previous games. The new mechanics are also great additions.

If you think motherfucking bionic arm is "more of the same", then you didn't watch the same video as I did.
