Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

A remake would probably be morose ,dark and melodramatic which is nothing like FF7.

Its tonally very complex.

I mean look at Crisis Core...Its nothing like FF7..Only in name and some designs only.
You're comparing a prequel to a remake that's intentionally something else (an action game vs RPG).

A remake has the same chance of being Crisis Core as it would be a shooter (Dirge of Cerberus).

At least the thumbs up are greatly outweighed by thumbs down in the Youtube video. Sony and Square can take one look at that and know they screwed up on a colossal scale.

I didn't even expect Final Fantasy 7 as a remake, but the way they presented it, I instantly thought this could be IT!!!! And then I thought, this could either be the ultimate troll of all time or the greatest thing ever. My disappointment was so much, god damn it! It would have been perfect! What a sad feeling!

I wrote a statement earlier in this thread (it might have been another, I don't know), but I'd just like to recant it now.

Even factoring in that this morning gamers and especially trophy whores probably would have said yes to somebody offering a PC port of FF VII with trophies and 1080p resolution, I now have to join the chorus of the angry crowd.

That was a fucking bitch move by Square Enix. When I think back to all the E3 and specialised shows like today's, and all the countless people dying for a fully fledged remake throughout each of them, this announcement was handled in such a callous way.

Why couldn't it have been a part of Adam Boyes' reading off of games, ports, indies, etc, coming to PSN on PS4? Why did it need to have its own slot and announcement in such a way?

Having SE come out to be a focal point and having everyone on the edge of their seats with jaws wide open made it a dead cert what was going to be announced. Then they proceeded to dash the dreams of all those gamers.

Shame on Sony and SE.

What did you guys expect?
The remake they teased 9 fucking years ago?

It's like Last Guardian and Half Life 3

At some point you have to accept that not everything that's been teased will happen, for whatever reason.

Could be worse. Could be like Duke Nukem Forever, teased so long you think it'll never happen, then it happens and it's one of the worst games.

I've been feeling like Japanese game publishers have enjoyed breaking the hearts of their fans for quite a while now. I don't get it. If only we had an expert of some kind who could explain why this is happening from a cultural perspective.

Tired memes aside...why does SE always go out of their way to be so shitty? I don't even understand what they're doing when I try to look at them solely from a business standpoint. I mean, if you can't avoid being incompetent, you might as well try your best to not be a dick.

So what exactly is the problem here?

What did you guys expect?
A fucking remake? Seriously?

Will never happen.
And btw. a remake by the current SHITTY Square-Enix? Yeah..... no!

Yeah, according to insiders it was all but a sure thing!

I am actually looking forward to this though. I do worry they would fuck this up royally if they remade it.

Exactly, having that jack ass come out and talk about how this has been almost 20 years in the making, getting everyone all hyped for a port of a port was just beyond the pale. If gaming journalists have any integrity whatsoever, they would rake Square Enix over the coals for this shit, and Sony for putting it center stage.

I think there is a silver lining here:

A VII remake is never happening, was never happening, and this kind of announcement means we KNOW that.

So put it to rest. Adjust your expectations forevermore.

All this means for those who have already been heavily conditioned here is that they'll make it up by remaking the game now.

Given that the PS1 classics haven't made their way to the PS4, having a remastered version of the PC version is not a bad idea, I'll probably get it myself.

But given the history and the fan outcry for a full fledged remake......it was a universe tier troll.

Yeah hopefully people will give up the dream now. In my mind this settled the issue. It will never be. Thankfully FFXV looks fantastic so hopefully some people can look forward to that instead.

watched the stream live, I'd just seen the grim fandango remastered trailer, an announcement for day of the tenctacle, yakuza 5 and suikoden 2 all of which gave me renewed hope and vigor for all gaming, square guy comes out, I brace for disappointment. FFVII logo starts flashing, talking about a new ffvii experience for the ps4, old FFVII graphics show up seemingly on top of a HD midgar. my inner child starts to break free, I yell at my tv "NO!" giant smile that I can't hold back, I kick my feet a little like a giddy little kid. I think to myself "this...is real? this is actually happening...?!"

vaguely understand the broken english and hear 'pc version' in there somewhere.

kick to the balls.

the ultimate troll.

I hate square.

Back in the day Squaresoft would've come out and announced what the fans wanted and drop the mic... now they announce a PC port of a 16 year old game.

Yeah, I mean, SE is getting hammers but few are mentioning Sony when they allowed this as part of the show.
Any update of FFVII is a big deal, even more so when they keep it PlayStation console exclusive. You're hardly going to tell a publisher doing you a favour to turn down the hype.

There's no way around, this announcement was embarrassing and hurted the whole conference, Hashimoto on stage was not needed, he couldn't even speak a word in english and the way they tried to create false hype at the beginning of the announcement was pretty shameless.
Sony shouldn't have allowed the announcement to take place in this form, it should have been announced like they announced Yakuza, Suikoden, Day of Tentacles and other games.

Never. Once I have taken over the world, and spread my empire across the stars stripping planets of their mineral wealth to further my own ends, I will fund development myself.

You'll see.

Can you fund development for TLG as well? Just throwing that out there. You're probably the best chance the game has for fruition at this point.

I think some of the people here aren't understanding why some of us got so upset. It's not that they didn't announce a remake of FFVII. It's that they came on stage in a very elaborate fashion and made it look like they were announcing a remake of FFVII... before giving us an old pc port.

To those of you comparing this to The Last Guardian and Half Life 3 being announced, you're missing the point.

I went into this event not expecting to see anything about Final Fantasy 7 or anything else highly unlikely like that. Then, Shinji Hashimoto comes on stage and talks about their history with Playstation with a giant Final Fantasy 7 logo plastered behind him. He's talking this up like it's something significant and it cuts away to a trailer. Who on Earth was assuming that it would be a port of the PC version at that time?

I realize that FF7R is one of those mythical games that may never come to fruition, but, I also don't know if it will ever feel more tangible than it just did.

Seriously , Square ? After 17 Years ? After teasing the start of the game in next-gen graphics ? A slightly upscaled port or the original lifted straight from the PC ?

Yay.

We should have. We all should have known better. It's ok though, my tears have already dried.

What did you guys expect?
The remake they teased 9 fucking years ago?
Teased? By showing a damn tech-demo?
Deal with the fact that you won't see a FF7 remake.
Believing in it was your first mistake.

Wow, I'm simply overcome by your outreaching wisdom.
Thanks man.
No problem, my friend. Next time you start believing unbelievable nonsene, give me a call.
Yeah, according to insiders it was all but a sure thing!
Simply stop listening to "random dude on a gaming board" who pretends to be an "insider" and has nothing better to do than teasing and posting NDA stuff/material on a games forum.

Port of the PC version?

.

This might actually be the worst thing a company has done at a conference/keynote thing in the history of gaming.
