Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

Got my PSTV from Play-Asia finally. Couldn't get it to work with either of my DS4s at all so had to dig out an old DS3 which it connected to perfectly. It's good to play P4G on a big screen. Then I downloaded FF Tactics PSP only to find it doesn't work. On the US list but not the EU one. Typical.

You have to fully update it to get it to work with DS4. The Asian unit launched before DS4s released there. As with any such device you shouldn't even bother using it until it's updated.

Surprised there's a "list" for PSP games, that's crazy, they can't possibly NOT be PS TV compatible, hardware-wise.

ehh, that GOW collection is not the best, it's pretty rough.

I'd strongly recommend the PS3 version over the Vita if at all possible. Looks and runs great on PS3.

Hey guys, anyone got a European account running on a US system?

Will it work fine, any drawbacks I should know about?

Thanks

Drawbacks are you have EU Vita TV compatibility list, which seems to be smaller and more poorly documented. But if that's where your games are it should be fine, just like US accounts on the asian units.

Got spanked for a customs bill from FedEx for my vita TV for play Asia. £18 on top of £51 is almost the price of just buying an official UK one:/

It's really a licensing issue. Much like how the crash bandicoot games work perfectly fine on the vita in NA but aren't available for it, any time a new platform appears licenses need to be worked out.

Now, if sony had any smarts at all they would secure those licenses for perpetuity, to avoid this nonsense every time they make a new machine. But that would be asking for a bit much from them

i really really hope they had the presence of mind to do this for recent games with the future in mind. you'd think with their more recent moves towards a possible hardware agnostic future (ps now, ps mobile, etc) they are doing this now

This has existed since PS Vita. It's nothing new, and they have learned nothing since that time.

Whist list exists only on Vita TV, it can be downloaded but prevents from launching the title.

the other issue is that they lock the download button on ps store so you can't download it which has existed since Vita.

Now this can have both, or one of those.

Are most new and recent Vita releases PSTV compatible? I wonder what the ratios are.

Most of the new ones I've seen have been advertising it. Neptunia Rebirth 2, Tales of Hearts R, also recent stuff like SK Versus and Hallow Fragment has mostly either supported it or patched it in.

I don't understand why you're surprised. It's been mentioned all over this thread there is a whitelist.

Whitelist for vita games yes, but that's because of Vita only features. Makes absolutely no sense for PSP titles.

Also licensing shouldn't be an issue, if you can download it to a Vita device then they must have solved the Vita licensing woes for that title.

None of those title required patches and many of Vita games that don't work still don't require patch yet aren't on their whitelist. So they don't work.

Makes sense because that's SCEA.

It makes sense for PSP and PS1 games too.

Because SCEA makes sense.

Why is this hard to understand

yeah, what i mean is, ps4 games should have platform agnostic licences for digital distribution. so they can say....provide the same bits to people with a ps5 or a psnow subscription. just a hypothetical future where you psn purchases are more like your steam account where they carry forward

Bought it, returned it a few days later. I had grand plans for using this but after testing a few games I realised I'd just rather curl up with my Vita instead.

I got lucky with mine, ordered it without thinking about customs surcharges.
So what's the recommended controller, DS3 or DS4?

DS4. Comfier and can replicate some of the Vita touch functions.

Plus it gives you the most accurate Remote Play experience because obviously it's the same controller as the PS4.

"Most accurate" is an understatement :P

With a DS3, booting up D3 for my first RP test on PSTV:

Oops.

I've been an ardent supporter of this device since it was announced and got it day one, but have been STUNNED at how few of my games work. Either physical, download, PSP or ps1.
As such I just can't recommend this thing to anyone, unless they really need streaming ps4 games to a TV, even then only with a speed tested powerline plug network.

Same case here man, its a great device but with so many flaws... Sony's PR department should work harder in this issue.

I wanted hard for this gadget to succeed, bought it, played with it, felt it.

And then I gave it back to the shop: "Im just dissatisfied with its support". 100% truth, no lies.

I still want this, seriously. Nothing like playing P4G and monhun games on a big TV. However is like a cute girlfriend with a spiky moustache :[ and im hoping that moustache to go away as I still want to see 'her' again.

Thanks, I remember reading somewhere that the playstation tv would only work with psn accounts from the same region.

Forgot all about this device until I recently returned a Vita (wasn't comfortable enough to use imo and the Remote Play 'needed' to be Direct for it to be good enough).

Anyways, I've now realised if there was some Vita games I wanted to play, I could use this instead (bought a code for LBP Vita).

BUT, looking at supported games, LBP Vita isn't compatible. Is that right? Is this the same for Uncharted, Killzone Mercenaries, Tearaway and Wipeout 2048?

Plus, could I in theory remote play to a Z3 with this?

LBP Vita makes too much use of front and back touch to work.

I wanted a white DS4 but nowhere had one for sale. Game had the 'urban camo' one, but they had a massive queue :(

Are you allowed to ask really stupid questions in here?

- I have never owned a Vita but have lots of PS+ freebies...
- I used to own a PS3 but have lots of PS+ freebies and digital purchases of PSN and PSX games...
- I do own a PS4 if that matters.

Drumroll..... Will the Playstation TV let me play the above mentioned games?
If I read correctly you have to have vita/ps3 tied to it to remote play on the tv?

and i'm setting here unable to decide between this or the portable one, almost a $100 difference + the disadvantage of being unable playing wipeout 2048 -i'm a fan tho i'm not pro with it- and maybe uncharted and whatever game that may comes in the future without supporting TV

i dont mind importing , but whether the game is designed for both of them or just for vita is getting on my nerves tho my game list is very limited and it's not big :
danganronpa 1+2
ToHR
wipeout
uncharted
P4G
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 2+3 in the future

all my friends got TV , i'm yet to , maybe i can ditch those 2 games unfortunately but i'm afraid of future regrets

sigh...

I have these tested, can confrim not working on the vita tv

Uncharted
wipeout (as you know)
Unit 13
Gravity rush
Everybodys golf
Dr Who and the ternity clock
Little big planet

They ALL work on the vita handheld

If I have a ps4 controller it's probably better to get the base model and snag a 32gb memory card right? I've never owned a Vita so I don't have any memory for it.

I figured since the PS3 allows you watch movies from an external hdd, this would do the same. Boy was I wrong.

At least Freedom Wars looks great on it!

Looking to get one of these as a gift for my brother but I'm curious about whether importing one form the US would work with Australian 240V AC without a step-down converter? He's already got a US PS+ account.

Don't know if it helps but I bought an asian Vita TV from play-asia and just replaced the power cable with an Australian one and it works fine.

Can I use a memory card for both my Vita and a PSTV just by swapping it back and forth? I want a PSTV but I don't really want to buy a new memory card if possible.

Also, what are people talking about with regards to remote play? I get that you can use it to stream a PS4 game, but are people using that for multiplayer or are you just streaming it to a different TV for convenience or something?

You can get around some of the charges of Fedex if you haven't paid for it already. Specifically the administration fee. I complained last year when I had the same thing happen over my Vita TV when it first launched in Asia, since I'd never agreed to pay such a charge before hand. They said they'd take off the fee as a one time thing.

Had some Best Buy credit lying around and got them to match Amazon's price for the bundle, primarily to replay older PSN games and start building a Vita library.

It handles the former just fine (and almost everything I already own is playable here except for FFIII) - I've never seen PSP games boot so quickly, and they look fine even upscaled. But I still can't get over the gaping holes in the Vita compatibility list. Here's hoping at least new releases are all PSTV-ready at launch :\

Got mine on Friday. For some bizarre reason I didn't get stung for a custom's charge.

Mind you, I think one time I got a delayed charge - in that a month afterwards I got sent a bill. If they do that, I'm not paying it.

Honestly, I don't think it'd be a good gift for someone without internet. A PS3 would be better, even if it was more expensive.

More expensive = too expensive. Although now that I think about it they should have internet before it's Christmas so it might be a moot point.
