Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

I don't have a Xbox One by the way : This is just a scream from the heart of a fan hugely underwhelmed.

Uncharted has clearly fallen into the line and if it was not for the impressive E3 teaser then maybe people would not have expected the Moon.

Seriously, is there free reign to troll in this topic because the last few pages I see Quantum Break and Ass Creed Unity make appearences when the topic at hand is clearly Uncharted 4. Are the mods asleep because there are attempts to derail, most notably the gem from user: Smooth Operator. Its getting tiring having to wade through comparisons and shitposts.

I'm just not seeing what's so impressive about The Order.

Here's a direct-feed of the area from today's showing:

Take a normal game, keep pressing blur until all detail is lost, and boom, The Order-look.

The Order looks godly, I don't know what you are talking about. Some of the best shader/lighting work I've ever seen.

Eh...

Crysis 3 has tesselation and POM and even PADM on every rock surface in its cave. I think it takes the cake personally.

When people talk about technology stuff they tend to nit pick... yeah. And yes, I made a huge stink about watch dogs blantantly lying in its pre-release screenshots (the game had graphical effects, that while subtle, are completely missing from retail).

Looks good as they do in all crysis games, but the general geometry is a bit chunky. In the actual footage I think the cave in the FFXV tech demo has more varied architecture to make it more interesting looking than in Crysis 3. But you are right, Crysis games do have some nice rock architecture dating back to the first game.

After looking all the recent games being shown: the Order: 1886, Quantum Break, Ryse, InFamous: Second Son, and Uncharted 4- I think it's ridiculous to say any one looks factually better than the other.

Each game is trying different things with different techniques- and all look mesmerising in their own right.

That said, Uncharted is doing EVERYTHING I've ever wanted Uncharted to do. It has incredible vistas, highly detailed textures everywhere, more animations than ever- and gameplay innovation (FINALLY!) the series needed.

It's obviously pretty early. Some of the areas looked like they lacked shadows, and I'm sure there is a ton more polish to come in- but even with that said- in my opininion is at the bleeding edge of technology.

Some of you need to a take step back and realize something: Uncharted has always been criticized for it's "stale" gameplay. This time it actually looked like the verticality, the level design, and the subtle changes make this a compelling and beautiful feat.

Bravo Naughty Dog.

The first game is IMO even cooler. The caves in Crysis 1 are done with VOXELS. :D

Not sure why rocks looking chunky is a bad thing though lol

How is "downgrade" even possible if this is the first time we see gameplay?
It doesnt looks as good as the trailer? no fucking shit, this is common practice.

Compared to what? Compare the uncharted to the natural areas in Unity and it looks much nicer. Unity also has a lot of loss of detail in not very far away objects. I think this looks better, you think Unity looks better. Fair enough. Unity is the flavour of the moment and looks good. I guarantee it will be surpassed next year. We always have these kind of dialogues when a pretty new game comes out. Unity has incredible level of detail for an open world game, but it has a lot of technical flaws as well.

While I definitely believe Unity looks better than a pre-alpha version of a game with a smaller scope...my original post was that who I quoted went off track the original discussion, which was that the cutscene model in Unity looked better.

Do you REALLY want to have the conversation of which game as a whole looks better? Like, right now? Not only will it be more insane a discussion than who has the best face, but its completely unfair to Naughty Dog as they don't even have a finished product to compare to

The only thing I don't really like is all the dithering on the foliage. In some spots it's quite noticeable.. especially on my PC monitor. But shouldn't really be an issue on the HDTV.

God I miss that game...One of the best games of all time...If only Crytek took its strength and pushed it further...

Kingroin: Nah, I am fine with a healthy disagreement.

Too bad Uncharted 4's environments look no where near as good as Unity's. Too bad we have to change topics to prove something we weren't even talking about.

Too bad.
Hard to compare jungles to cities. UC3's Cartegena still looks great though so UC4 shouldnt disappoint.

Im sure a few people here will jizz their pants if ND gives us tessellated roof tiles or something. 'OMG roof tiles!!'

same. except what do you mean it has clearly fallen into the line?

You would probably want to use a better non-compressed picture for comparison:

ACU does have SSS and the "eye textures" are about on par. With the clearer image you can also see that Elise does have some facial detail. Just because she doesn't have well-defined wrinkles, that does not negate her facial detail. Also, the texture work on her clothing is far superior to the UC4 shot. The Uncharted 4 shot is still very impressive though.

One look almost real (especially in motion), one looks like a game (especially the hair).

ACU cutscenes grew on me, but clearly DESPITE the technical shortcomings.

Because the animations and gameplay improvements mean nothing at all. GTFO with that

Bravo Naughty Dog.

It is entirely possible to have one game look better than the other and it comes down to the overall package of graphic fidelity. Uncharted 4 has a long way to go, so we will see next year, but it already looks better in a lot of ways compared to The Order, MGS 5 for example. The same way I:SS doesn't just have a few things look really good, the overall package is incredible and why it may very well be the best looking game this year.

but this pre-alpha, work-in-progress build that is a year away from the gold master looks like shit and i am wondering whyyyyy. why why why. because i am pretty sure the graphics are the only thing they had to work on for that build and they can't even get it right. forget those equally-important aspects of the build that they showed off like destructability of cover, animation blending to make traversal and melee seamless, improved gun sounds and hit reaction and ai sightlines and vertical level designs and everything else. we need to focus on one thing and one thing alone; his hair.

It's amazing how people are criticizing visuals (and even damn textures) after seeing a highly compressed Twitch stream of an alpha of a Q4 2015 game.

U4 looks better by far. Especially in motion - the animation is unbelievable for a game. I'm not sure how you can compared clothing texture since the guy n the left is just wearing a shirt. Elise looks like a puppet.

I think your screen just proves what he is saying. The Order looks great, but not better than UC4.

Is Second Son that much better than First Light graphically? I didn't play Second Son yet, but judging from First Light and the videos/screenshots I've seen of Second Son, I'm really not impressed at all.

I am quite fond of Unity and Uncharted 4's visuals, though.

Graphics were amazing, but more importantly it seems they improved gameplay.

Shootouts look like they are a lot more fun and dynamic. Grappling hook is ace.

The IQ for I:SS is pretty insane given it's open world. First Light should be the same if not better. If you can find that thread of user screenshots, that's probably the best place for examples. First Light is free next month so you'll get to see it first hand.

Have you even played Unity? They animation in that game is really fluid as well and the mo-capping is superb, especially during the real-time cut-scenes.. UC4 also has
ridiculously good mo-maps as well. I dont get why you think Elise looks like a puppet.

It's no contest when there's absolutely no eyelid occulsion casting onto the eyeball for Elise. That's a very jarring omission when you're trying to render a realistic looking face.

I agree, that was an oversight by Ubisoft there.

Looks as good as the E3 trailer to me. Watching it through Twitch did not do it any favors.

WindingFlawedAfricancivet.gif

Could someone please make sure this (and preferably another gif of all the close ups at the end) get posted in the OP.

Oh, and why don't we get rid of those screens from the Twitch stream while we're at it?

It doesnt seems to me that, that detailed Drake's face is in the same level as ingame. It was expected though.

But, the game is looking pretty damn good!! Its beautiful, and it seems the AI is quite better! Loved it!!

Well The Order is packing some impressive tech all around, in terms of real time reflections, geometry, physically based rendering (how materials react to light) and high quality post processing effects.

But I do agree Uncharted 4 looks great and will look better on release, it has a broader scope and the FOV is not as restrictive as most TPS games, that's always refreshing to see.
I think ND got caught in a state where they were still debating the framerate, still the footage shown looks mighty impressive and better than most stuff released on consoles

He hasn't played ACU if he thinks UC4 animation blows it away. In game animation for Unity is impressive and Elise in cutscenes is great.

If they stay at 30 I'd like to see improvements in lighting/shadowing (PBR and HBAO) as well as extensive object motion blur. If this is what they aim for at 60, then keep on keeping on.

Gameplay wise this is exactly the evolution the series needed. Excellent demo and didn't even need to spoil any setpieces.

It looks really good, and in a great way it demonstrates what seems to be a much more open level design, with a lot of different paths to take.

A few things I wonder about graphically though:
- Is it still supposed to be 60 hz? Any word on this from ND?
- Is it using physically based rendering? The materials doesn't seem to "pop" as much as other modern games using PBR (for example The Order 1886).

I am not going to take anything away from The Order 1886, which looks properly next gen with the best material based lighting (PBR) I have seen to date but they have yet to show a traversal segment that is as open as UC4's vertical slice. And, iirc, we've seen more gameplay of UC4 than the combined same fir The Order.

It's really quite amazing. At the bare minimum, anyone who wants to criticize the "downgrade" must download the corrected version. Get back to us after you oggle that a bit.

This is some real life level of shit.

I have played Unity on PC and never came close to such realistic looking facial expressions. Kevin Spacey in Advanced Warfare is extremely good but has dead eyes syndrome.

hopefully as a finality, here is the pic again with Elise from the hi res screen thread.

sYslH7b.jpg

One looks like a doll, the other looks like someone who has been running around in a tropical rainforest for an hour and a half.

Both look good, but the amount of detail in the skin and lighting in UC4 blows Unity out of the water

Yeah. I mean really, he's not all beat up and glistening wet like in the reveal, so there's less shaders going on here, but the detail is there, and looks just as good to me. I'm used to the drama of GAF UC threads, so I'm just rolling with it lol.

Why the fuck does every game need to depict rocks and caves as looking wet? It's like they have never seen a cave or a cliff side. They don't all look like shiny slimy surfaces. It's something I thoroughly despise about current and last gen.
