Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Guys, I'd like to ask you something:

What do you think of Shulk? Both as an opponent and using him.

I've been using Shulk a lot and this week I fought 2 friends (One a smash veteran who has the 3DS version) and another who only played Brawl + this one (and only a few hours with me)

Both ended up complaining Shulk is overpowered, either because his counter was too easy to use (I'd argue it's them who are predictable), because of the monado arts and Shulk's ability to rack up damage quickly with Buster and KO easily with Smash or a combination of the two.

What's your opinion?

Its kinda difficult to use right, i always have trouble changing his status modes.
Also, he is surprisingly popular, some characters i never see others using are Wii Fit trainer, Pacman and Sonic

It doesn't make sense to include more F-Zero characters at this point. There's no more call to represent F-Zero.

Heck, I'm almost surprised that Cap is still in the game. I actually laughed to myself the first time I scrolled over Cap on the character select screen and thought about how much of a miracle it is that Nintendo still bothers to include him.

All that said, while I'm not the biggest F-Zero fan, I'm glad that Captain Falcon is still playable, as if he's being grandfathered into each successive iteration of Smash. I feel the same about Ness, only difference being that his inclusion means a little bit more because I'm a Mother fanboy.

This logic only works if you ignore the fact that smash is a franchise all on its own. Sure the f-zero franchise is dead and buried but cap has been a fan favorite since the beginning. He is as much a part of the smash franchise as he is of f-zero.

I've been mucking around with Charizard's jumpcanceled Rock Slide. It's a really great move for the ledge and get-up animations or rolls.

I've been testing other characters to see if you can do something similar. Robin can sort of do it with Nosferatu, its like a weird glide forward through the animation, but its not as good as a pivotslide Nosferatu. Not very useful though.

Can do it with a bunch of counters. Palu, Marth, and Lucina I tired and they glide a bit while in counter animation. Seems like any d-special that can cancel vertical momentum works.

I actually rely a lot of sound to change his status (4 for Buster, 5 for Smash).

Haven't played online much yet to notice his popularity, though =x

So does anyone have any tips on playing as Megaman? I'd love to use him more online, but I just plainly don't know how to play him properly.

From what I could tell, his A/Foward A is fairly useful for approaching and his down A is quite fast and has a nice range. I'd say short hop is important for him in order to have more than his cannon for close range. Take what I say with a grain of salt, though. I'm no big Megaman expert.

He's not bad thats for sure. I wouldn't say over powered though. I went to a tournament yesterday and my brother(Dedede_ faced off against one in the Semi finals and boy all 3 were amazing matches. Earlier that night I saw him completely destroy others but he still lost 3 zero to my bro and lost against me later on with my Donkey Kong. He sure didn't expect that mid air downB.

He has great range but he is by no means over powered. If you love him, go for it and destroy with him. The games are still new and not everyone has figured out how to fight every character yet. Don't feel bad cause you win! Oh and his counter is so easy to get around. If they are constantly getting hit by it then too bad for them. He probably has the least reliable counter.

What's the deal with Palutena? I like her moves but everything about her just seems so slow and cumbersome, especially her A moves or whatever you want to call them. Is it worth getting competent with her, or will she always be at a disadvantage?

Some tips or high level vids would be useful!

He's slow as all hell in how his attacks work (his movement is fast), and his hitboxes take a long time to come out as well as his animations are long even after the hitbox goes away.

I was noticing it when playing against Kyzon last night. There's no hitbox, for example, on his d-smash in the very middle until the second half of the animation. You can just walk up to him and grab him.

Been playing online a little bit with randoms. I'm so terrible at this game.

My main is Pikachu, but I can't figure out how to get kills with him. I tried out Lucina today and did a little better.

How do I stop being a scrub?

Can I get some help please? I can not seem for the life of me figure out how to play with friends on my friend list. I created a room and he couldnt join me, so he tried to create a room and i couldnt join him. It just keeps giving me that error sound when i push A. what gives? I can play online matches just fine, is there something I am doing wrong?

Lucina is a weird Marth with no tipper to her sword, can't say much about her kill potential but its definitely lower than Marth's at the tip.

For Pikachu, one of his major strengths are his combos into throws with f-air, his down smash sucks in and does a ton of damage, and he has a great off-stage/ledge game with Thunder. (Use Thunder on predictable recoveries, it will knock them out of it.)

Go to Smashboards look up pikachu in the character forums and just read a bit. One thing I love to do with characters I just pick up is to short up, aerial, then see what connects to it instantly upon landing.

Example: Bowser
1- S-hop - Bair - UpB
2- S-hop - Fair - AA/Jab

So these moves are usually how I approach opponents so when I land I'm not completely helpless. Of course you have to space so that just shield grab you. Just figure out which moves seamlessly move into others. That should start you off fairly well.

On your online options there is in option so friends can or can not see you. Maybe when you started the game you accidentally listed it wrong. I've been seeing this problem form time to time.

Oh, I have no intention to leave him =p I love this character (and Xenoblade on top of it). His versatility is awesome. I was just wondering if it was them (seriously, they are very easy to read and thus easy to counter) or if the character actually was overpowered.

That's the impression I get too. Most of his attacks are fairly slow. Had no idea about the hitbox on his down smash xD. I'm so not sharing that with them...!

I play as him quite a bit. I love using the Monado arts to change up my strategy depending on the situation or who I'm fighting against.
He's not overpowered - your friends just stink.

I would reset my router and ask my friend to the same.

Nothing quite like not getting launched at 100%+ thanks to Shield <3
Do you use Jump and Speed? I seldom find use for them.

Yeah, I was suspecting as much xD

Went to best buy and Nintendo rep was there with all sorts of goodies today. We were gonna get the game anyway and got some cool swag and a cool puzzle and title belt.

I threw away that Smash Belt lol... am I a bad person? I was so confused when the game delivered at my house and it came in a huge box.

3DS version exists you know? F-Zero got treated a lot better than Wario in the end of things because it at least got a new remix.

And no, F-Zero doesn't need another playable character and I'm saying this as a huge F-Zero fan. When fans are hoping for Black Shadow of all people, then it's time to stop and reevaluate your life choices.

This thread is specifically about the Wii U version. And the quote I replied to specifically said "this game".

F-Zero got no new stages, and only one new music remix (a fourth version of Mute City) in the Wii U version. The 3DS version has zero relevance here.

And I'm not among those who want to see Black Shadow, but there would be nothing wrong with Samurai Goroh's inclusion. It would be no stranger than Captain Falcon's own inclusion in the original Smash Bros (until then, the F-Zero franchise didn't have a "main character"; it was the Smash Bros. series that gave Captain Falcon the reputation he has now). Plus, he's another villain, which are sorely underrepresented in the Smash series (especially now that Wolf has been cut).

He could also bring a unique playstyle, in that he could be a heavy, slow-moving, but fast-striking swordsman, which is what his assist trophy would suggest. Think Ike's weight/movement speed, with Metaknight's attack speed. Or he could be something else entirely; again, it was Smash Bros. that got creative with Captain Falcon; they could do the same for Samurai Goroh.

Just started a random 8-player smash for my amiibo to train and the characters that got into were: Meta Knight, Kirby, King Dedede, Mario, Sonic, Mega Man and Pac Man.

What a nice random match.

Jump and speed are awesome for beating dudes like Fox, Marth, Pikachu, etc. to items or smash balls. Shulk is such a versatile character, it's easy to see why he's such a fan favorite already.
