No gamma wipe at launch, per Edward Lewis of FDev:

Hi guys,

This is just a quick update to confirm that there won't be a wipe at launch.
Any questions (I'm sure you've got 'em ) put them in the thread below, and we'll get back to you ASAP.

So any of you that have gamma access and can play right now, everything you earn is yours for good, you can play with no fear of a reset of losing anything to a wipe.

Well, time to go in hard.

Of course I've been flying around doing stupid shit and am currently in the middle of nowhere... might have to just self destruct and restart in a noob ship again.

Best news I've had all week, I get to keep my Type 6 and fully upgraded Cobra!

I really feel it's the correct decision too, it's not a competition so there's no need for everyone to start over.

Jay!

Route planning then we are set :)

I use CMDR Club on an iPad in front of me. Works really well in the meantime!

Neat, didn't realise the news held the Top 5 bounties for that system

edit: oh wait it's not just for that system.

BlueFalcon actually got me on Saturday as I was heading to Lave. Nasty piece of work, I wasn't even carrying any cargo but he just lit me up. I was defenseless in my T6.

I am thinking about getting this when it release .
Are the controls that horrible with a KB+Mouse ?

I would say you need a HOTAS to really fly properly, but it is worth it. I suggest this if you're on the fence: Thrustmaster T-Flight

Put it this way - using a keyboard and mouse, can you pitch / bank, use directional thrust, switch power levels, turn flight assist on and off, and fire your weapons all at the same time? I can with HOTAS and would feel weakened in a fight if I couldn't.

can you steer the ship with the mouse or is it all binded to keyboard? I might try a controller and if I like the game I'll buy a flight stick.

You can steer the ship with practically anything your computer supports. The binding options are pretty great.

I've played the Mercenary Edition combat missions many times now using my X45 HOTAS, but last week I decided to try it out with my Xbox 360 gamepad just to see how it felt control wise, and much to my surprise it honestly controlled pretty damn good. Played around a bit with the button assignments and whatnot but it was surprisingly doable. I'll be sticking with the X45 of course though as it's much better. :)

Keyboard + mouse actually worked great for steering the ship, but you just lose so much fluidity in the controls by having things less "hands on" then with either the 360 pad or a good HOTAS setup. If you didn't intend on bounty hunting or dogfighting at all then I'd say that KB / MS could actually work pretty well.

I can do most of the actions at the same time with KB+M with the exception of switching power levels, although I think I could squeeze that in as well. I've been playing the combat tutorials and beat Incursion with relative ease (except for the Anaconda of course), by using this controls scheme:

WSAD - forward, back, left and right thrust
QE - rotate left/right
Space - upward thrust
Alt - downward thrust
Mouse - vertical - pitch, horizontal - yaw
Left Shift - Flight Assist On/Off

It's basically FPS or Descent controls. Although, I've never tried a HOTAS, I'm sure it's much better but I think KB+M is more than fine if you don't have one.

My body, HOTAS, and DK2 are ready for this. Though I find for longer sessions I forego using Oculus due to nausea. Anyone else play this for more than hour with the DK2?

Whoo my X-52 just arrived in the mail, talk about timing. Got my HOTAS and my Voiceattack profile ready. Tonight I'm going balls deep.

Blergh. I'd have bothered playing more if I knew there wasn't going to be a wipe!

I didn't bother because I figured my time would be wasted, again. xD

A wipe was never confirmed, only rumored.

Was kinda hoping for a wipe...guess I'm going to have to jump in tonight.

Let's be clear - a wipe would have been a bad thing. Let me explain why.

It is not a race. Even in the core systems, you're going to encounter other human players maybe a couple of times a day, and even then they're likely to just leave you alone. For this reason, we can safely say that the game is absolutely not a competition against other players. You get no advantage by starting early, and no disadvantage by starting now.

The idea that "everyone would start off on equal footing" is a false premise - Kickstarter backers got a Cobra anyway, Beta players got a free Eagle, and so on. And there are always going to be people who put in insane amounts of grinding and get an Asp (or whatever) two days after release. You're not in competition with anyone else, so it doesn't matter if everyone starts equal or not.

The only thing a wipe would have done is erase the progress that people made in the Gamma. That's it. There was clearly no technical reason to do it, and Frontier have recognized that all a wipe would have done was annoy quite a few people.

Even rumours suggests there's a possibility, which I was going to avoid.

Regardless. They lowered the starting credit amount to a measly 100? I didn't think 1000 from the beta was a particularly massive amount lol...

Starting with 100 credits is an elite tradition.

How is the T-Flight? I have an x52 myself, but am looking for something for my son to use with his, without spending a lot.

Speaking of starting options, I was a Kickstarter backer at one of the beta tiers. I should have quite a few choices when creating a character but I only see the option for the base 100 credits + Sidewinder. I opened a ticket the day the gamma went live, still no response.

No wipe? I think it's time to upgrade from the T.16000m, or at least get a separate throttle. I'm kind of torn on what HOTAS I should get for under $150.

I think Isinona uses the T-Flight, if you're wondering what it's capable of.
