Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

Fuck it, ordered my copy today just for the graphix xD
seriously though, this looks amazing. I don't really play racers but I'm willing to try for this.

With this patch, Driveclub is now a horror racing game. Driving in these conditions is so scary. Beautiful scary, if that means anything.

McLaren P1 on The Kyle, Scotland. I'm still shaking.

Excellent job of showcasing the new weather, especially liked where you stopped and entered photomode.

Bravo sir, bravo.

If I'm honest, I think the level of nitpicking applied to stills is actually something which is detrimental to overall gaming visuals and experience. Lots of processing time and of course productions costs are lavished on items which will otherwise be criticised on forums (and by reviewers) based entirely on stills, while a lot of these details are things which you won't even look at during 90% of playtime.

At it's core, it comes down to the eyecandy vs performance balance, and currently devs are mostly targeting the former because too many people are nitpicking over texture detail and too few are asking how well it performs.

Maybe the advent of 60fps videos on Youtube/etc will start to change this, but I doubt it.

You know what, I agree 100% with you on that. Especially development/final product wise. I do tend to notice every little detail, or thing that is off in games....especially in stills.

However, a game in motion and how it looks/plays when you're in the action is MUCH more important.

GTA V, for example, has some rough areas here and there...but boy...in motion, with the city alive, the sun setting in the distance, and the ocean rippling next to it...it's a thing of beauty.

DC pulls off things in motion that are incredible looking...no matter the things we notice in stills.

Downloaded the update. Nice weather effects in the day. But the hyperdrive, 90s starfield screensaver, effect of rain at night doesn't work for me at all. It's as though the rain is lit by some invisible lights on my car's roof.

Hate to be a party pooper but the snow/lightning shots are making me angry >:(

I have never seen a thunderstorm and snow at the same time (though I believe it's probably possible).

Ahhh fuck it who cares the shots are gorgeous
Yes, it is possible. It is not common but pretty cool when it happens. We call it thundersnow in Colorado. ;)

It's normal for a real life camera. The lighting condition change dramatically between outside and a tunnel, so when you get in, the camera has to take some time to calculate and correct the exposure. The time needed to do so varies from camera to camera I think.

It's a very unnatural effect. I've never owned a camera that reacted that slow. And my eyes certainly don't. The tunnel is lit, since when does driving into a lit tunnel during the day make your vision go black.

I could care less about online stuff but just driving with realtime weather conditions is enough for me to get this game ..

Now .. how about a Tornados?

The coolest thing that I saw is how the rain on the windscreen moves based on the car's movement - so when it's skidding round a corner and then straightens up, the water streaks change direction. Amazing.

Haha yeah a lot of people corrected me.

I'm in the Canadian prairies, we get tons of extreme thunderstorms in the hot summer and massive blizzards in the winter but I've never seen the two together.

It looks incredible

Incomming challenges for anyone on my friends list.

Does anyone know if when you set a challenge the weather carries over? I havn't made one yet.

I just went to Amazon and 1-clicked this baby for $35. Was just waiting to make sure the patch didn't introduce any other issues. Looking forward to it.

Had this been in at launch, with proper advertising and without the server problems, I really wonder what the difference in reviews would have been.

I've noticed this in a number of shots, not only is the "reflection" offset and incorrect for the camera angle..but there seem to be random (things that aren't even there) "reflected".

This bugged me in Infamous:SS shots/gameplay too. It's not just something in those games though. I noticed completely wrong "reflections" and lighting in Unity on the PC too...stuff that wasn't even close to correct.

It seems like the water is flowing down the embankment and accumulating on the road at that point where the baracade is not continuous. You'll notice as soon as the barricade becomes continuous, the road is not as wet.

Eyes don't, I agree. Then it might just be a deliberate artistic choice of making the transition effect slow. I'm sure Hollywood would use it for some effect like "getting out of a tunnel and feeling free".

Anyone know when the auto-update for PS4 is due to be patched in, PS4 is in standby, have always had the keep internet active, download patches + software update options ticked, as a PSplus member, yet I need to switch on PS4 to start the download, I dont mind personally because I have a decent internet connection, but am I missing something?

Can't please everyone. When DC was first released with realistic lighting people complained the cars looked "floaty". Seems they are using less-realistic lighting for the weather to make it more video-gamey and people complain.

I think it's just where the puddle patch ends. Large puddles still appear fine in the distance.

"Puddle patch ends" lol. It's the same for snow/rain. Get in a tunnel and when you see the exit, get in photomode. No snow or rain outside but a few meter more and it's the storm.

Man, I'm officially hooked now. Spent three hours last night, went to bed, woke up and played another two hours.

The weather is really something, but it's almost distracting at this point. For time trials and challenges it's a bit rough in the sense that it genuinely makes driving harder, but I still love having it there.

so this is weird... online matches right now, although they have no precipitation, there is still lightning way off in the distance in the clouds.

looks sick.

Yeah it's really hard to keep your eyes on the track. Especially in Norway. If you don't know the track you have to be careful in every corner - WOW :D

Another Bizarre forumite and PGR fan here checking in. Not played Driveclub yet but from everything I've seen (especially with the weather patch) then yes, this shows every sign of being the HD current-gen spiritual successor to PGR4.

I remember you too Mascot. :P You need to jump on board the DC train.

It checks in for updates every day only a few times, it's not continuous. So if you turn it on before it's next check-in time then you will get it manually.

If you mean it never gets patches for anything else, even after sitting a day or two, then I don't know as the settings seem OK.

Do we know when replays will be added? One my favourite passtimes is viewing replays in racing games from chase cam angles. FH 2 does not scratch that itch due to the crappy angles available.

Do the reflections adjust in photomode when you adjust the camera position? That reflection might have been correct from the original position, but when paused and repositioned to another cars view perhaps it didn't update,
