YAKUZA 5 LOCALIZED FOR PS3

Sony's Third Party Productions is the one paying for it. And maybe they'll also do the localization and publishing themselves, but we don't know yet.

Yakuza 3, 4 and Dead Souls all took at least a year to localized after their Western announcements. Yakuza 5 is coming in Summer 2015 and it's supposedly has way more contents and dialogues than the other Yakuza games, there's no doubt Sony is helping them with the localization.

We don't know when they began. It's not like they would wait before announcing it to start working on it. The timeframe between announcement and release tells us nothing.

I wonder who exactly is handling the localization, I quite like the translations that Inbound Games and Pole to Win have for the series in the past. I know people have mention a discrepancy with 4's translation onwards, but that was because SEGA finally decided to make the translation more faithful (Nishikiyama and Kazama's names, the orphanage dog Mame).

whoever it is, I just hope they're consistent and don't pull the amateurish effort of the first game's translation that kept the honorifics for some odd reason.

P.S.
Whoever made that Shenmue porno reference in 4, you're just the best.

sonys doing or segas doing?

I imagine while SEGA had noted the demand in previous times before the announcement, it wasn't until Sony stepped in and offered to help fund the localization that they finally pulled the trigger.

Yakuza 3 was actually announced in December 2009 before being released in March 2010, then again, cut content might have contributed to the short time.

Yakuza 3 sold enough in the west for them to localise a spin off and a sequel. It was the follow up performances which resulted in "Huuuuh, maybe we shouldn't bother".

As for the US numbers posted previously, bear in mind that those are US only, and US makes up just slightly more than 1/3 of the PS3 installed base outside of Japan. So yes, Yakuza isn't a great seller in the West, but it's not quite as bad as is implied by solely US numbers (which themselves are not particularly up to date).

Isn't Yakuza bigger in Europe (well, bigger than those awful US numbers), I recall Yakuza 3 doing fairly well in the UK and in Europe we got those steelbook editions.

Now bring over the HD Collection, HD versions of the PSP games, Kenzan, Ishin and Zero, kthxbai.

I know it's fun to dream but...

Everything is going according to plan...

*rubs hands together*

Now Sega will localize PSO2...

Let me wallow in ignorance pls ;_;

Shoot, mixed this up with... Ishin, I think it was. Nevermind, no Yakuza for me. :/

Yup, this is the kind of stuff that happens when a game is released 30 months after its Japanese debut, at the very end of a console's lifecycle which successor is a console without backwards compatibility.

You are not going to be the only one, unfortunately. I just wish it doesn't hurt the Yakuza 5 sales too much or we won't see more Yakuza...:\

If you were a betting man what are the odds that they remaster all of the games on one blu-ray for the PS4 in the future? I'm not a huge fan of remasters but if they took 1-5 and put it on one disc I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Isn't 5 cross gen? Not sure why they don't just localize both, very puzzling...

It's not cross gen. Only Ishin and Zero are.

Game question: Are each of the cities in Yakuza 5 as large as Kamurocho? Kamurocho alone got tedious in Yakuza 4. Zero takes place just in Kamurocho again right? :/

They wouldn't fit. Someone noted that 4 itself is 22 GB. Gotta imagine that 5 is the same size, if not bigger. 1-3 have no chance of getting on the blu-ray after that.

If it happens, it's multiple discs for you, gentleman.

It's never going to happen.

So what are the chances of Y0 coming to PS4? Yay or Nay?

I said it in a different thread but I'll say it in this one too - the news of Yakuza 5 being localised greatly increases the chances of Zero making its way to the West as well I'd say. We just have to hope that 5 doesn't completely bomb on PSN when it's out.

Most likely Sony. Don't give Sega so much credit. I bet Sega didn't even consider until Sony cut them a check.

to be fair to sega the games havent sold too hot in the west.

i don't think they're completely unreasonable, we got physical PDF2 on vita after the first one was digital only and ended up selling well.

Lets hope enough people buy Yakuza 5 (and 4) so we can get the rest of the titles and in physical form.

Like others have pointed out, it's wise to start with 4 due to the overview of past events that game has and it's such a great game overall. Plus, there's enough time to play it until 5 releases here.

Especially since in 5 (at least with my playthough), there doesn't seem to be a recap option like the previous main-canon games had.

Indeed, even if Sony is (hopefully) helping out this time with marketing, I think fans should absolutely do the most they can to create awareness for this.

Loved 3. 4 is still in my backlog.

5 has a new graphics engine? How do the visuals compare to 3 and 4?

They improved a lot on the faces, especially Kiryu's.

It's the engine they used for Binary Domain, it certainly does help with character models, I think Haruka benefited the most from this (her model in 3/4/DS always seemed off to me).

from what I've seen, not as large, they're each smaller in comparison...unless Sotenbori has changed or
Shinada's city
is bigger than the others.

Yeah I know its that engine, also I would kinda a agree on Haruka, though some people still think she has bug eyes.

Yeah I don't remember it being in there either, but to be fair I can't read all the kanji in the menu.

3's story was relatively straightforward, so a recap will probably do in a pinch. 4 is where it started to get real dense, and 5 doesn't hold your hand regarding the events that lead into it.

Well fuck it. Put two on one disc and the rest for download. I know it's a pipe dream, but shit.

Is there any OT for Yakuza 4? I'm barely in Chapter 3 and almost all i've being doing is picking up random fights on the street :P Also, i need to share my like for Akiyama
even when Hana-chan is the real kickass here :P
