Hah, rewatching some of the episodes on youtube and I had forgotten how anticlimatic the jogress/dna digivolve was for Shakkoumon. Iori and Takeru were like "I guess it's just you and me now, let's wing it" rather than the digivolution manifesting from the emotion of the moment.

Well thats good then, I can watch it someday as long as its not removed. I don't think can at the moment since I only have a 1MB download speed. I can only watch videos on YouTube thanks to my Vita being the only device that actually allows it to be proper SD. I don't know if an SD option on Netflix will be low quality enough since I always remember netflix being more wonky.
I think I actually have a free trial that they emailed me recently since its been months since I cancelled, so I guess I can maybe try to see if it works.
But glad to know I can watch it whenever we get faster internet. Thanks for the info.

I ordered the original taichi +agumon from amiami and got hit by import fees which I didn't mind but the handling charge from Royal Mail was ridiculous. . I would've gone with nippn yasan but their customer service is horrendous /non-existent - I had a fault with my wargreymon and they refused to do anything about it and ended up going over the PayPal date. There are loads of places though, hobby link, cdjapan, play Asia, yes Asia.
Looks like I'll be sticking with good old Yes Asia.

Tbh, nippon yasan is normally cheaper. My adice would be tgo use them if it's incredibly cheaper and just open a claim ASAP if there's a problem with the item - Don't wait for them to contact the supplier etc like I did -_- - I thought they were a reputable company since they'd been recommended for various other gaming products on here and reddit.

Digimon Adventure 01 was certainly one of the series that marked my childhood. I originally watched the Spanish-dubbed version, which thankfully was very close to the original (kept all or most of the original dialogues) and had the same soundtrack. Truly fantastic.
I have to be honest: I was shocked (not to say horror-struck) when I first saw a clip from the American English version. I couldn't believe it. I remember reading a website that compared the Japanese and English versions episode per episode scene per scene showing differences and changes, I couldn't give credit to what thay had done to it. The childish dialogues, the music... everything felt wrong.
Since, I've learned that many Americans anyway liked the series, and some remember it afectionally too (even the music!) what I've learned to respect, despite me utterly disliking the English dub. However, I have a question for those of you who first watched the English version and then the original one: what do you think, in retrospective, of the dialogue and music changed done to the dub? Do you think it manages to mantain the same "feeling" to it, or does it make it too childish (more)?
Would you recommend a first-time viewer to see the dubbed version over the original one?

The dub has it's charm for me, but that might just be nostalgia. The sub is waaaaaay better musically and dialogue wise. Tone (especially the last battle lol) is all over the place in the dub. It was definitely changed to resemble more of an average Saturday morning cartoon.
For older first-time viewers, I'd recommend the sub. For kids, the dub's fine.
^ I LOVED the original, but once I had access to the original content, I couldn't go back. I fell in love with the Japanese OST and it made the show feel... different. When Tamers came out, more raws were ripped and put up for download (although very exclusive at the time). I got my first glimpse of Guilmon's original voice, The Biggest Dreamer, and My Tomrrow. I tried watching the dub and even though the raws didn't have subtitles, you could tell there were changes and edited scenes. After a few episodes, I couldn't continue the dub.
I think if more dub fans saw the original, maybe they would enjoy it more. Some people just don't like watching shows not in english, and others often are so full of nostalgia that it will always be cool to them. Pokemon's dub I think still works to this day. Sure there were some cuts and silly additions, but the dub music was at least in the spirit of the original, and the dialogue was actually fairly close. Both also had good voicing too (heck I prefer Yamato's dub voice).

I'd have to compare again with Taichi (at least sub Daisuke/Davis isn't an annoying wiener), but the "why do I only get the crust?" line with the whining and the angst was just... ugh :/ We were supposed to take the big bad end boss seriously?

Yes, I think that's one of its biggest flaws. It almost seems like the dubbers thought children are too dumb to understand what's going on or something. I first watched Digimon (Spanish-subbed version) when I was around 10 or 11. My sister watched it at a similar age. I remember most people from my class back in the day were watching it. We all understood what was happening, we didn't need jokes every 20 seconds to be entertained. There were funny parts too, as well as drama and sad moments, and we were attached to the show the way it was and we enjoyed every bit of it.
The English dub and its constant [lame] jokes makes it look like it is not serious, like everything's really fun and games. It's constantly trying to "lighten up" the mood, and I don't know why, there isn't really a necessity. Is it because kids are going to watch it? I repeat, we were kids too and didn't need any of that.
PS.- The pizza crust thing is almost embarrassing. And like that one there are a hundred more.

Ive watched the sub and dub of mostly all the seasons except for Xros Wars and I think the dub is fine for the most part. Sure there are some changes that bother me, like the Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon thing, or the weird extended Bobobobobobobo joke in Savers, or the kind of butchering of Juris and Leomons subplot in Tamers , but I still think the dub is fine and people are way too harsh on it.
I think they did a lot of things well like Koushiros backstory, which at the time of watching kind of blew my mind that they were actually doing the whole adoption real parents thing, or the whole divorce thing with Yamato and Takerus parents, or Taichi nearly killing Hikari as younger children...It was heavy stuff. I think the jokes really did help ease kids into the show but the dubbers always treated serious stuff well.

Personally, I find that while I hugely prefer the Dub names for... basically everyone and everything, the sub has largely better writing (though, I do think the dub gets too much flack).

I do prefer some of the voice actors in the English version. Japanese Palmon is a bit grating and any digimon with a verbal tic got a little annoying, pi.
Also it's nice to hear things like "metal" pronounced "correctly".
But "Chika Chika Bang Bang" is better than "Needle Spray".

Because it's actually "chikuchiku" which is a sound effect for "a pricking pain" in Japanese.
So it's really "Prickly Bang Bang" which makes sense and has a weird Chitty Chitty Bang Bang reference.
Which is awesome.

That's the thing though. Many international versions included the original dialogues and subplots and were also intended for children. I was around 10 when I first saw Digimon, and I remember feeling sad in the scene where you see Yamato going with his father and Takeru with his mother or when Joe was drowning after saving Takeru. But I wasn't traumatized or stopped watching. I think people sometimes underestimate the capacity of children to process these things.
PS.- I find it curious that my local version used the original Japanese dialogues and music, but kept the American English names for the main characters (Tai, Matt, TK, etc.), as well as "Digi-World" and "Digi-Evolve", but the rest is just like the Japanese version. I wonder if other international versions did something similar.

I am just saying that the dub isn't that bad because they did keep this serious stuff in tact and treated it well. The international versions are better localisations than the English version of Digimon, but personally, looking back as a 25 year old who watched Digimon as a child as well, I still find the English dub to be an alright adaptation of the show. I had a good time rewatching it on Netflix anyway.
You are right though, the english dubbers at Saban did definitely underestimate their audience at the time, I think many children's shows do. But I think they had good intentions to juxtapose the serious nature of the things going on with humour. Maybe one day we'll get a proper English dub.

Forget about Yamato. If I'm remembering right, what's more baffling about hat episode was how Gabumon was totally on Yamato's ass about how stupid he was being and how nothing Cherrymon was saying was making sense at all... until he suddenly decides to have a complete brain fart and does a complete 360 out of nowhere and is like "All right, never mind all that stuff I was talking about, about this probably a really bad idea or whatever. I'm suddenly convinced this is a good idea for absolutely no reason at all and will just mindlessly do whatever you tell me to now. Let's do this, Yamato!" Like... what?
Giant talking trees are rather convincing, I guess?

I think it was trying to show Gabumon's loyalty to stick by Yamato's terrible decision making (though I'd argue a true friend wouldn't let someone burn bridges because of their own insecurity).
Characters act really dumb in those episodes. It ends with everyone separating like a bunch of idiots.
