Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

Is there a general consensus on the recommended racing wheel for Driveclub yet?
If you're on a budget, get a T80 or a T100, and if you're not, get a T300RS or a T500RS.
The T80 and T300RS, as official PS4 devices, are more future proof than the two other ones (PS3 legacy devices that lack some features on the PS4, like a functional PS button, and will only be supported in games from developers' good will)

That's not bad at all.

A sideways parked car in the apex of a blind curve taking up over 50% of the road width is bound to be hit by racecars coming around. It's a wonder the vast majority can avoid the accident. Look at 1:50 or 2:57, the car who hits the player is actually avoiding hitting another AI car and has nowhere to go but into an accident.

This a fantastic patch!

Four amazing things in one:
1. Weather!
2. Ability to use club cars offline.
3. throttle/brake mapped to right analog stick.
4. Two new tracks!

This is officially my favorite racing of all time. No hyperbole. With the 2015 Corvette Stingray coming, I just need a 2015 Mustang, 2015 Camaro z/28, and 2015 Focus RS to have all the American cars I want... then a GTR from Japan. Yes, this is my own personal list; i'm aware others want many other cars, but these are the only cars I need added to make this game perfect for me.

Still waiting for the promised Japan tracks and replay mode to round out the content, though.

My only wish, along with replay, is more point-to-point tracks. We've got five new tracks so far, and none of them were PTP. =/

I think that's a conscious decision to make all views comparable. If all the first person views, hood, dash, etc all have rain as a detriment to vision then the other cams need to as well to keep it comparable especially for online. If one view had no vision impairments they would have a huge advantage over all the others.

That doesn't hold ground as a argument for me because why would we even the playfield regarding the weather while not evening the playfield with the field of view?
Someone playing cockpit IS disadvantaged with his peripheric (pheripheral?) view and that hurts nobody. Same thing as with the choice of transmission, manual trans is generally advantaged.

Long story short, I don't think that water splaterring on screen is there to "even the playfield" and if they REALLY thought about that then they failed at evening the playfield already.

Agreeing here.
Using cockpit view to drive is my choice, and I fully accept the consequences.

I would happily switch to bumper or hood views if limited visibility was becoming too much of a problem for me.
But since I can't stand the raining-all-over-your-telly effect... :-/

They cant really control the FOV when thats part of that viewpoint. They can control the weather effects. And the manual vs auto isnt the same thing, it takes way more skill to drive a manual in racing games than auto.

My guess is you'll have a smattering of reviewers bump it up a point or two, but most will stick to their guns even though they know it deserves a bit more.

My footage from last night:

Canada
Heavy Rain
Stormy Clouds
22:00

The way the lightning lights up the terrain made my jaw fucking drop.

Okay, the water droplets being pressed onto and across the windshield by the g-forces during heavy cornering got me. That's just beautiful. Really like the water actually being swept into place in a clump by the wiper blade cycle and then being pushed away by the other blade.

Undeniably gorgeous game, shame about all the problems. I hope those graphics developers stick together, because they're clearly capable of some very impressive stuff.

Except it really isn't representative of gameplay sitting in the track, giving the AI plenty of "notice" to avoid you.

When you're actually moving it's similar to Gran Turismo's single file AI, except they'll actively fight you to stay in that line. I've had times where I'm approaching a right hand bend while side by side with another car, I slow down to give the car track space to either corner properly or even overtake, then he forces himself into my line and spins me out. Other scenarios will involve me braking in plenty of time in coordinance with the car in front, only to have another car slam into me at 100+ just to regain their line.

The penalty system is even worse. If I misjudge my brakes and slam into the back of a car with the accident being entirely my fault, the game essentially goes "meh, whatever" and doesn't deduct points. If I'm driving carefully and another car just decides to kamikaze me for fun, not only do I get spun out, but I probably also get the speed penalty, and the game also decides to go "MINUS 200 POINTS WHY DID YOU HIT HIM YOU BASTARD".

The AI and penalty points systems are complete misfires but the rest of the game more than makes up for it
except that the levelling feels grindy, I just want my SL65 damnit

Alright, tried a snowstorm I Norway and man was that pretty. Totally impossible to drive in cockpit view but it looked fantastic.

Haha. Most likely, but private lobbies are being worked on as well. Not sure if it has taken more priority due to popular demand

Heh, all good. As much as I want replays, I think I'd rather have private lobbies first.

Would love to be able to get some good GAF-only sessions going or just race 1 v 1 against some of my friends.

The update itself is great but there's one really sad detail.

I am SO TIRED of shit splattering on screen when it shouldn't.
I play chase cam, I don't want the fucking rain on my screen, I am not a fucking camera and I don't have a windshield before my fucking eyes. Seriously.

Now it renders night tracks + rain almost unplayable and for no good reasons.

But there IS a good reason. The core component of this game is competitive challenges. Having some views with zero obstruction from weather is unfair.

Is R3 working to go into photo mode for anyone with a wheel? It doesn't seem to work on my T500RS.

But you are a mystical being controlling a car despite hovering 10 feet behind and above it? ;)

I have a feeling I know what is coming next. Even just racing alone in single player has leader boards and those must be fair.

If you want some kind of toggle for this you need to basically be removed from the online component completely to be fair.

Edit: oops meant to quote ranger x again. Sorry on mobile.

Is it just me, or does precipitation not affect driving conditions (handling)? Also, are there only a few places with snow? It would be nice to choose a Canadian location with snow during the day.

it's just you. What kind of car are you using. If you are using a powerful car in the rain you have to go easy on the gas or you will spin the rear very easy around corners.

Has this been posted in the photomode thread yet? I've been following it religiously since I made it and this photo is, though not most artistically shot, probably the most life-like shot I've seen from the game. That is incredible.

It is? Well don't I feel foolish. I've 100% the main tour and didn't recognise it when I fired up my first rainy lap yesterday. Is it used in the early tour events perhaps Haven't done those since launch.

Sinclair Pass was the new track in Canada, that came with the weather patch. =) I mostly play the PTPs myself, as I find it more fun to play long tracks, instead of going several laps through the same sceneries.

EDIT: I'm not sure where it was featured in the tour events. It's been a while for me as well.

Agreed, I can't see shit playing in hood cam neither. It gets really annoying being forced to stare at blurry water droplets.

lol... water on the screen...totally agree with you guys. wish there was some option to turn it on/off. it doesn't make the game any more immersive. it just annoys the hell out of you and just makes more stuff unnecessarily more difficult to see in the games that do it.

#droolclub tho. the weather effects look amazing.

Pretty sure I saw someone saying that you can disable it?

please:

- Let me turn off the headlights and turn on the foglights
- Let me disable certain camera views as all i do is too switch between two views (3rd and 1st person)
- Let me use the soundtrack of the game trough the cars stereo
- Add screeching sounds to the wipers after they are used a certain amount of time
- Fix the fov for the cockpit view, something seems off - i don't know what.

Anyway, now i'm going to finish this game at last.

Wonder how they can address this. Obviously they don't want people to cheat by using other totally unobstructed views during heavy weather but then there's no wiper with these camera views.

WebM weather yet?
