Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

I don't even know how they could have missed this since it is affecting everyone. What are you doing Evolution?

Reminds me of Sony Santa Monica releasing GOW:A with really -atrocious- sound mix that was even out of sync with the action more often than not. So yeah, with some things it's rather incomprehensible how devs don't notice some stuff before release. But hey, game development works in mysterious ways I guess. Also, with this game in particular, there's always SOMEthing to look forward to next.

If Driveclub gets an environmental audio update, there's only one possible thread title for the news: Driveclub - A Sound of Thunder

Daaaayumn. More real than real life.

This patch has really re-vitalized my interest in the game. I mean - with the dynamic weather, this is the best-looking game I have seen so far. The visuals and immersion-level are off the charts.

Is it weird that I'm actually thinking about getting the game around Xmas not to Race, but just to drive? O.o

Don't get me wrong, if I get the game I'll probably try some races, but I am generally not too good at racers (weirdly enough, WipEout aside where I'm decent).

In that spirit, can I set races to multiple laps to do on my own without AI drivers trying to mess my car up? (Timed races I guess?)

I don't know ... maybe I'm just weird. :)

I was watching the God of War Retrospective panel from PSX and they talked about how rushed game development is.

They burned the final disc for one of their E3 demos the MORNING of the show. They talked about how the guys in charge will put a hard deadline on things but the individual people are always trying to sneak things in at the last minute, like animation improvements, a better art texture here or there, etc because they take so much pride in their job and want the game to be as good as possible. The unfortunate side effect is that slipping in a change at the last minute can cause it to unexpectedly change other things that weren't anticipated. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes and it's not always easy to catch stuff like this.

Anyways yeah hope it gets fixed soon!

I spent 3 hours last night just driving by myself and taking photos. And yes you can just do a time trial on any track by yourself and spend as long as you like driving around. There's no laps in time trials, you just keep going until you decide to finish, so theoretically you could drive....FOREVER

actually any race will give fame points so you can level up :)

To be fair, no one in this thread even seemed to notice the first half a day.

90% of my time with DriveClub is spent in no-HUD time trials. Its fucking glorious.

You can still try to set times or race against yourself and ghosts without having any of those HUD elements visible. At the end of each sector of the track you'll set a time, and even if that time is hidden because the HUD is disabled you'll still hear a little chime if you've set a new best time and a little gong-like ba-dump if you came in slower this time around.

Those touches, along with the color-coded difficulty flags at each big turn help make this a damn near flawless game for no-HUD time trials. Put all the event settings on random if you want some extra surprises (random time of day, random time compression, random cloud cover, random precipitation or dynamic).

Interesting. Also matches the image I had in my mind of all these people obsessively passionate about details and for that very reason missing the obvious thing right in front of them.

Well now we know what game to pull out next time someone asks, "Oooh. You have a PS4. How do the games look?"

So true. Now I really know without a doubt (Hint: It's Bandipur 17:00 Storm Heavy rain x45 Zonda - it's glorious!)

To be fair, no one in this thread even seemed to notice the first half a day.

Really a testament to their mighty impressive visual achievements. (Also proof that not only devs miss the obvious while drooling over some other stuff)

What I'd love to see ideally (for those of us who want HUDless) is a very brief popup of the sector/lap time difference, just in the middle of the screen (just under where the rear-view would be). I'd love everything else from the HUD to go (except for when I drive the P1, I need to know what my KERS/DRS is up to) but because I kinda need dem times, I usually relegate myself to leaving it on.

Seconded. Lap times is the only thing I'd need.

sound + replay update would be epic
do we know what the what new location that's been previously mentioned is?
I remember rumblings of Antigua, and GAF dreams of Japan..?

Japan wasn't a dream. During one of the more recent weather previews, as they navigated the menu over the blanked-out location, it faded across the screen and keen-eyed GAFfers noticed it said Japan.

Japan is confirmed I believe, it showed up in the menus accidentally while they were showing off the game at some event.

Phase 2, get it out the door, bro.

Man, I'm extremely impressed with this game. I was interested at first, then just decided to wait for the PS+ edition, but the sale was too good to pass up.

I was up till 1am last night retrying a track just to take down Helscream from GAF by 2s when it was all said and done.

This is the most fun I've had with a racer since NFS Hot Pursuit III. I like the fact that it's just straight tracks and not open world. I know open world has a place in racing, but it's just not for me. I get extremely intimidated by large open world games because I tend to get distracted easily. This is just straight up "race down this track as fast as you can and the better you do it the more points we award". As I've seen it echoed on GAF, it reminds me of PGR4 (Which I loved).

The weather was just icing, no pun intended, on the cake for me.

Now add me to your PSN so I can challenge your scores GAF, PSN: MaynardLD50

Only side note I have is I really want to love the in-car view (so pretty), but it just takes up so much screen real estate, so dash cam for me.

Add Driveclub-GAF to your friendslist i think viviks from here is controlling that and from there add everyone!

I don't know ... maybe I'm just weird. :)

One of my favourite things to do in DC, is to just run single point-to-point time trials at sunset, with the interior camera (not the full cockpit one, but the one behind the windscreen), HUD off, some tunes playing. I'm also weird but it's quite relaxing to me.

edit - apparently NullPointer as well, heh.

Bu... But. There's a new hyper car in my garage: the Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione. Did it come with the weather patch? I didn't read the release note...

Anyway... I could test the new weather conditions at last and OMG, that's so beautiful...

I just did a full time trial on that 2nd canada track with dynamic weather turned on and starting at 6:00 in cockpit view. Holy mother of god it is SO GOOD!

I can't drive for shit in the rain yet on my 2nd day but man. Just seeing the morning sun beaming bright off the puddles in the pavement along with breaks in the clouds creating these moments of bright sunlight against that dull grey of the storm clouds. Along with the lighting changes from the trees and the sunroof of my car.. UNREAL

It was the first thing I looked for when it started raining. You have no idea how disappointed I was :/
My first flashback was to PGR4 and how they *did* have umbrellas (and flags for whatever country you were "from"). Shouldn't be too difficult to add in as a random thing. Given Evo's attention to detail, I'm sure it'll be soony before we see them (perhaps with a stealth patch for G27s?).

Ok guys, this thread is starting to sway me. Can you explain to me how repayable this game is? What keeps you coming back for more compared to games like Forza/GT? Where in those games you customize, upgrade, buy new cars, career mode etc?

Was looking at my friends leaderboard when I noticed one of my friends was position 429,247 or something like that. This was the first hot hatch race and he had a really bad time, so he must have been near the lowest point of the leaderboards.

So it seems the game still did "ok" despite all the problems? I don't know how useful this number is but it's at least some kind of indication, no?

Co-op?! Or do you mean split screen?
I think he indeed means split screen.

While I can appreciate a good local coop game from time to time, racing games have never really lent themselves well to it. Maybe a game of Mario kart, but that's about it.

Driveclub split screen? Maybe on PS6.

Bought the game on day one. Pleased to say it's cured my itch to race on a next gen console. Even before the weather patch, the lighting alone in the game makes some of the tracks look realistic especially scotland.

The weather patch adds more value to the already amazing game. I dare say this is the nicest looking game on the ps4 at the moment.

I don't remember which event it was but I swear I saw leaderboard positions that were 600 000 something. The game definitely seems to have done well (for comparision I believe Forza Horizon 2 sold around 300k around release)

The driving. Every car feels unique. Every track feels unique. Add time of day, weather, challenges, a bunch of friends and the game becomes infinitely repayable. But what clicks for me is the driving. I'm not a fan of pure sims and this hits a sweet spot

I've never played any game in any genre as much as this one

I got the game at launch and hated it (regardless of the broken online stuff). Did this or any of the previous updates tweak the car handling or the crash penalty stuff at all?

Are the tracks unique? I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but from all the gifs and videos I've seen, the tracks seem to have about the same format, and are largely comprised of the same turns, and races seem to generally drive the same. Of course, environments change quite a lot, but the track layouts seem the same in all the content I've seen. Are there other things in the game?

Nope each track has a distinct feel to it and requires different things from you.

No there aren't other things in the game. It sounds like you should wait for the PS+ version to see for yourself.

does anyone know what the holdup is with the ps+ version?

We don't know the finer details but the overall network structure/server capacity is not ready yet to hold the strain of another million or 2 users suddenly signing on with the PS+ version.

Speculation is that they are rewriting large chunks of netcode and other aspects of the game's online features to fix this, but it's taking a while. Don't expect to see PS+ any time soon. It's not as simple as just plugging in 100 extra servers.

Strengthening the servers to handle a million more players without fainting.

This is honestly the reason why I hope they don't release PS+ version til like February or something, give us more time to enjoy the game just in case if any complications arise from the release of the PS+ version.

Also we should just rename this topic Driveclub [OT3] at this point haha.
