If you like racing you are fine.

The game can be played endlessly if you like to break your own time/lap records again and again. :)

Eh. I was really hoping there would be a lot of challenges that would take me a good amount of time to complete. Can I expect that?

How is this as a purely single player experience? Not a lot of my friends have a PS4, and I'm really tempted to bite.
I've found it fine offline personally. Good mix of tracks/challenges and plenty of options to fiddle with.

Online with radoms is there too so even if you don't have friends you can still go online if you wish.

If you want to join a club pretty sure there's a thread to help find 'em (could be wrong on that).

I'd argue that its better in SP than it is online since most online races are bumper cars.

In SP there is a meaty tour mode which increases in difficulty as you go along and you unlock the higher powered cars.

The number of events is increasing each month.

Then there is challenge mode which is dangerously addictive.

All you will need to do is add driveclub GAF on psn and you will be set.

There are currently 3 tours to complete single player. The one that shipped with the game, and 2 more that were offered as free dlc as a sort of apology for their messed up servers. They should still be free.

It will keep you busy for awhile. Plus you're constantly getting challenges from friends and randoms. At least, i am.

Edit: Yeah i just checked. If you guys are new to this game, there's a bunch of free dlc available right now. Go grab it if you haven't already. 2 free expansions (the "Ignition" and "Photo Finish" expansions), plus cars.

Really impressed with the details they put into the cockpits as well. Driving the M5 around I noticed that they actually properly lit the buttons that become visible when the headlights are triggered. Even the the 1,2, and M buttons used for memory seat function are perfect. In the day time you can even see elements in the instrument cluster (such as the adaptive cruise control indicators) that are never used in the game but slightly visible in real life even when not lit. Also, before starting the race, the (P) indicator is lit. Even the difference in material between the center portion of the steering wheel and the wheel itself are represented. Oh, and if you look at the back seat, you can see that the middle seat belt is properly folded into the little compartment and they actually modeled the seat belt clips properly. Ah yes, even the rear view camera under the trunk lid is modeled *AND* reflective (showing the scenery and part of the bumper in its reflection as you move the camera).

They didn't nail every detail, though. The led light strips that run under the trim should produce a soft orange glow around the cabin - I'm surprised they didn't model that, to be honest. Also, the green LED indicator for rain sensing wipers doesn't seem to be lit (though it's hard to tell).

I hadn't looked this close before but I'm just stunned at how many tiny details are present even in areas that you'll never see during normal gameplay.

Absolutely. I'm putting it through its paces right now. It's insanely impressive as everyone else already knows.

Do you think Digital Foundry will take another look now the weather update has been released?

I'm kind of terrified what GT7 is gonna look like.

o.O

Me too but not in a good way. Safe to say Polyphony, being 1st party as well, always wring out amazing performance so I expect it to look significantly better than Project Cars. PCars looks good in some ways, but falls completely flat in others (the wet weather effects, especially now after Driveclub).

However I'm worried about what the 60fps implication will mean for GT7 over Driveclub though. Driveclub's rain effect is now the benchmark, both the on road reflections etc and also the windscreen rain effects. GT7 needs to match this, and do it all at 60fps too. I believe they could do it... but then Polyphony always makes me feel nervous they might cock it up. They sometimes focus on really esoteric things and ignore the basics. The wet weather in GT6 was just wrong. Low res rain effect on the windscreen and literally no reflectivity on the road surface at all. What they did made it look more like a weird ash storm had just been and the cars were kicking up plumes of dust behind them. Hope they can pull it all off in GT7, but I fear the driving experience may be as clinical and soulless as before.

Driveclub creates a visceral thrill in driving. The car sounds, the slight shakiness of the camera, the sense of speed from the specific view angle they've used and great motion blur... GT7 has a lot of the finer details to improve upon to evoke the same thrill of driving. Hope they can pull it off.

the heated brakes annoy me. They glow cherry red with every application. It is not realistic. heavy cars without carbon ceramic discs should/could glow dully but only with real abuse.

To be fair, you need to be really fast to let them glow cherry red.

And it's not unrealistic.

When we are on the Nordschleife, even the smallest cars have glowing discs when they have to break on high speed...

Didnt the Gt1 or Gt2 have that 'high res' mode or something for a few tracks?

GT is the type of game that lends itself to that kind of customisation; a 60fps mode with less (track) detail, or 30 fps with more bells and whistles.

But my opinion is that they should just lock it at 60FPs and build from there.

The update itself is great but there's one really sad detail.

I am SO TIRED of shit splattering on screen when it shouldn't.
I play chase cam, I don't want the fucking rain on my screen, I am not a fucking camera and I don't have a windshield before my fucking eyes. Seriously.

Now it renders night tracks + rain almost unplayable and for no good reasons.

I've just had a really stupid/awesome idea. Remember the Infamous Second Son gameplay controlled by where you look, linked to a camera monitoring your eyes... Imagine if they replicated rain drops hitting your eyes and blurring up parts of your vision, and you can clear them away with a blink. Would make the third person views more interesting in a game like this.

I know, stupid idea.

Definitely. It'll be 60fps, has to be. I think they can do amazing things and maybe they an match Driveclub's amazing effect in 60fps. They'll have had a lot of time to get to grips with the hardware, and hopefully Sony encourages cross dev sharing of info (I hear they do encourage this). I don't expect GT7 until 2016 or 17 so plenty of time to make the most of the GPUCPU optimisations promised by Cerny (peace be upon him) at the PS4 reveal and which was stated as only coming into full effect later on in the PS4 life-cycle.

Bought DriveClub yesterday just to see THAT weather...
Since then i'm still looking for my jaw...Must be somewhere...

It's mindblowing how REAL this game looks. Incomparable with anything else out there.
DriveClub is the only Next Gen we've got right now.

Ok guys, I'm closer and closer to get this game with every passing day, but I most know... Is the game worth it for offline only play?

I don't really enjoy online gaming any more, and even less if it's a racer. I also have poor and inconsistent bandwidth so.... I want to get the game if the offline offering is sufficient.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Motorstorm offline.

Yes it really is :). You dont have to play online to do leadervoard stuff though, thats still fuj if you're looking to solo race.

Of course.

Lots of tour mode events (sort of a career), and an endless supply of single events, time trials, drifts etc etc.

You can also use the asynchronous community challenges as well, but you need a connection to the server (actually, will the game work if you pull your network connection?).

Can you explain that a bit better for me. Your second sentence sounds like a BUT, but you say that I don't need to play online to do leaderboards, so that's great if true.

Right now, it's absolutely worth buying!
You will enjoy every second of that game, no matter offline or online...
Im very much "offline only" /with some exceptions / player and this game, graphics aside, is just joy to play.
Tons of fun.

That's awesome. Game seems to be more meaty offline that I thought.

Will probably get this now.

EDIT: Thanks, guys. For the replies.

Depends what you mean by "offline" play, do you mean no active network connection?

No, I mean online multiplayer. I don't want to get the game if I need to compete online to get the most of it.

No, you don't, of all the hours I've put into DC, I've maybe done 3 or 4 online races.

There is nothing you can't get in SP that you can get in MP

It's good but the challenges are something else when you get someone equally skilled and online at the same time and you are both taking already quick times and shaving off milliseconds each lap, sending new challenges to each other over and over and next thing you realise you have been doing one main challenge for 5 hours straight. Super competitive bonding with total strangers that don't even speak the same language, always good when that happens.

But this is purely asynchronous.

Yeah, I know. I just don't get much enjoyment from online multiplayer anymore, for whatever reason.

What's the deal about a sound patch I've heard people mentioning? I've got little issue with the sound in the game but maybe I'm missing something. How will it be improved?? It's got the visceral kind of sound I expected...

Just buy it!, if nothing else, you'll get the best looking game of this generation, and the best looking racing game ever made, that alone is worth the entry fee IMO.

The asynchronous multiplayer is where this game really shines.

It's mostly about the rain and thunder sound effects being mixed too low.

The weather sound effects (like rain and thunder) is mixed in so low to the point that it is almost inaudible. The rest of the game sounds quite good, but I think they could boost the soundtrack volume slightly. Even at max it's not that prominent which makes having individual volume sliders pretty useless.

Heya. I bought DC at launch and haven't touched multiplayer yet. The SP is great and has tons of content, spanning over different countries and types of races. It's a great game, and I'd even go as far as saying it's become one of my favorite racers ever (coming from a guy who's played a lot of them).

You should definitively buy it!

Low or not there at all? I've not heard any thunder whilst stationary.

Only burblings of thunder and wind but that's just the ambient sound.

Sound mixer would be cool.
Tyre squeal
Engine
Other cars
Ambient
Thunder
Pitter patter
